From my take, the VAR official felt it was a penalty but the referee believed he saw everything that happened and decided no penalty.

So when the VAR official insisted it was a penalty, the referee told him the incident happened outside the box and blew play on.

However, the VAR official insisted that then he should give a freekick to the Egyptians.

The referee stopped play and told the VAR guy to rewatch the incident and told him of a leading infringement. Not watched the replay carefully but my guesses are:

The Egyptian backed into Simon or there was a tug.

The VAR official watched it and agreed with the referee. That was why the referee laughed. Like, I told you I saw everything. Then blew finally, play on.

Like they didn't partake in the Arab cup that held in Qatar last month. The only reason North African teams are still part of CAF is because Arabs are abysmal at football, so no serious competition for them there. Dem no kuku send una papa for Sub Sahara Africa before. grin
You get?

People making this whole thing unfair to Tunisia as if the same Tunisia were not given a penalty in this same game that they missed.

Mali wey their player chop unmerited red card, dem no dey cry, so, why should we be bothered by Tunisia?

The ref was trash on all fronts. Mali took advantage of his trashiness, Tunisia did not and lost. That's not Mali's fault.

They even asked them to come back and play the match, Mali that is winning 1-0 agreed to come back, Tunisia refused. Is it not Mali that should be trying to protect their 3 points?

Omo, anybody wey wan go play with Qatar and Saudi should feel free, make we see road.

Scenes where North African teams break away from CAF and join their Arab brethren....

This is Disgraceful abeg. Tunisia did the right thing by declining.
They should get out...
Isn't it through this same dubious methods that their clubs use to bully the rest of Africa?

The referee does not need to go to the screen if he saw everything and the VAR agrees that his take was right.

For instance if the referee said he Egyptian backed into Simon and the VAR official said yes, there is not need going to the screen.

VAR is there to correct the referee when he is wrong. Not when he is right.
Yeah sure.. Well That was a close class though

Cos I felt Moses tripped and then help the Egyptian's leg

Why go to the screen when he knows what he saw and what he saw proved to be the correct thing?

Was he not closer to the action than the VAR official?
Sure!! But it was a nervy moment nevertheless

Awoniyi is a power playing centre forward and a press machine just like Osimhen. Though he didn't score yesterday, he was quite impressive. He and Iheanacho gave us some improved IdeyEmenike 2013 vibe.

How Rohr didn't see this is baffling

The referee let it go for an earlier infringement. That is what I believe happened. It was well deliberated on.

Next game, I would say we send most of our starting lineup to the bench to rest them against future games. We should be able to dispatch Sudan without our starting 11. I think a front three of Ejuke-Sadiq-Simon should do the job. Onyeka should play alongside Nwakali or Aribo. Ndidi is indispensable. Backline too should not change, with Ajayi replacing Omeruo if necessary.
Heyyy easy now bro, let's not get ahead of ourselves. That's how we were looking past Denmark thinking to meet Brazil in the Qtrs in France 98. Omo dem knack us two by two.

The first team should play Sudan. When we qualify, the second team should play Guinea Bissau

Hopefully they do that..I don't like those people for anything. And besides they most likely hate other parts of Africa

Most of them don't even see themselves as Africans or part of the African continent

I suggest Eguavoen and his team should not be sacked completely, instead Peseiro should be made the technical director, and Eguavoen the coach

Eguavoen has said it all but am surprised seeing some trying to defend Sadiq performance but it was obvious he didn't bring any synergy to the team....the same thing Ejuke who I rate highly nothing special about him against Egypt...Nwakili came in and his presence was not felt....Chuckwueze damn too poor and need to sit on the bench in the next game.

Kudos to Maduka,Aina,Omeruo,Sanusi and Ekong, they did well...Ndidi brought his A-game. for the first time in GWG..Aribo classic...Iheanacho proved once again that he is the best GWG finisher...Awoniyi did his job well, possibly we are not going to miss Osimehn much...Simon did well.

Eguavoen should maintain his XI with exception of Chuckwueze with Iwbi coming in,we need to see Olayinka even as a sub...it seems Onyeka is a direct replacement for Ndidi in case but I thought he should have come in as sub against Egypt.

Good game from eagles.
I also said Chukwueze was not in the game while the match was on but Chukwueze was when I watched the replay of the game yesterday night. He was not as pesky as Simon but he was not poor.

Are we still having the debate on what's Iheanacho's best position in the pitch? From Leicester last season to the AFCON, I think he has really shown where his strength lies - Behind a striker

Omeruo is training alone

By the end of this AfCoN, Ighalo will hardly be a topic in this forum or anywhere around Nigerian football, as Peseiro is already watching Awoniyi.

If the world cup was tomorrow, my strikers would be Osimhen, Awoniyi and Dennis.

What Iheanacho needs is loads of chances. Not playing with or without a striker. Give him chances and he will bury them. So the system needs to do more to create chances.

Don't just look at it from one angle. We would be doing ourselves a disservice playing Nacho alone as a 9, because that would limit his abilities and effects in the game as he doesn't not only play to score but to also create chances for his strike partner to score too.

Firmino plays as a striker for Liverpool without a pair and it has not limited him for creating chances for others.

In all my life I have never seen this type of refereeing in an international game.
He can be forgiven for the two penalty decisions. But some refs won't give that penalty against Tunisia.
That Malian player didn't deserve a red card.
And then ending the game first in the 85th and then 89th Mins. Meanwhile, there was a water break, two penalties that needed VAR decision and a red card that was checked via VAR.

That guy should be sent home from this AFCON. He is not a REf
Imagine o, terrible referee. And I know you are writing from the place of someone who watched Nigeria as Red devils and saw live games of teams like Racca Rovers, mighty Jets, railway XI etc.
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joezinho:
That ref needs to be tested for drugs.

It is obvious during the water break, the weed smoking ref didn't pause his time so when the game resumed he looked and blow his whistle. grin grin

Well i am not moved. The Tunisians can go fvck themselves . I remember in the semis of the 2004 AFCON, how these arabs played a phoney version of the Nigerian anthem amid deafening whistling by thousands of Tunisian fans. Even kanu was screaming in anger.

The correct anthem was played at half-time. So once again, they should go fvck themselves.
