PSQURE, J-MARTINS, TIMAYA, Burna Boy etc are all Yorubas.

They are big artists, but did not cross over unfortunately. Timaya as popular as he is in Nigeria would not be a name known by non-Nigerians in diaspora, same as J-martins. P-square are arguably partially international (mostly, champions in West African countries), but remember Reno did not make it a rule. There will definitely be odd exceptions, but it does not stop the fact that Yoruba language enhances global music.

Yoruba music is leading but there is no doubt that Nollywood is almost entirely Igbo content.

All over Africa with reasonable influence all over the world, Nollywood has made Nigeria proud.
old nollywood of 90s or 2000s? d New nollywood is dominated buy Yoruba, go check again

So so true. Reno on point. But locally its the igbos that monopolize the gospel industry
Even the secular genre, there is no evidence Yoruba's dominate it. Which is why he didn't say it categorically.

is not about what you like because your likeness might be in the minority, Reno is talking about national and international acceptability of Nigeria music which Yoruba singers dominated

I was surprise to see igbo in my area dancing and singing Zazoo zeh that a Yoruba like me don't even find interesting, so is not about what you like, who know you? is about what the majority accept

It's doesn't occur to you that portable zazu crooner is accepted in the whole of Nigeria despite singing in pure Yoruba language he even had a show in imo state and they love the track

Personally I love Igbo music more than Yoruba's, especially their gospel music by female artists. There's a way they resonate with a deep part of one's soul. The melody, the beats, etc. The song "Ekwueme" remains one of my all time favorite gospel songs.

For spoken language though, I love Yoruba more than Igbo. The language, truth be told, is almost becoming a generally accepted urban/street slang. You see folks from all across the country using Yoruba curse words and exclamations in their everyday interactions. Perhaps it is because the Igbo language is alot more intricate to understand than Yoruba.

That is not to say Reno isn't an idiot though.

There are some.truth in what he said.

Having Passion for something requires time and little growth

The igbo gene get no time for that.

Look at agricultural sector, How many Igbos fit wait for cocoa (for example) to grow for 4 / 5yrs. Buh they can buy and export it or buy in large from those farmers etc.

That's why there are little Igbo farmers
Anambra Gene especially. Too like quick money

It's all about so many things and not just about singing from YORUBA sophisticated culture, creativity, openness, tolerance and acceptance of global ways and understanding and so on, these are the qualities and approach other communities in Nigeria lack.

You've said it all. The openness of the Yoruba people is one of the best qualities of that tribe. While others are too busy trying to carve a niche for themselves, Yorubas influence them by welcoming everyone regardless of your tribe, this is why Lagos and Ogun are the top relocation destinations in Nigeria today...

I am sure you have not listen to any of Osita Osabebe's musical collections.
You may want to start with the 'Osondi Owendi' album, below;

We must tell our stories or else revisionists will drive us into irrelevance.

In their active days, Oliver De Coque, Onyeka Onwenu, Osadebey and Dr Sir Warrior can square up against any Nigerian musician.

The advantage conferred by Lagos has given music by Yoruba singers a tremendous advantage.

No big deal. Its because cosmopolitan Lagos is the epicenter of the entertainment industry and commercial capital of Nigeria. Lagos is in Yorubaland and dominated by Yorubas .

Nevertheless since all Nigerian tribes live there and they have relatives in other parts of nigeria and abroad...anything that breaks through in Lagos, a yoruba city will become popular in the Nigerian hemisphere.

That is why lagos is called " Eko for Show"

Okoro yans be dat... STOP ur kain-kain... grin

One of the reasons for that is cos , Yoruba language is a highly tonal language, and that's why you can easily make music with it.
If you want to know. Go listen to drums of passion by Babatunde Olatinji.

you're uniformed, I dated my wife for 10years, left for her tolerance and patience we wouldn't have end up in marriage

I know how many Nnewi ladies I would have fúck when I was serving, igbo ladies generally have special feelings and respect for Yoruba men despite seeing majority of them as Yoruba demon

where were they based, where do dey sell their music.

Reno said mostly the truth but that Lagos factor is there, they promote more of Yoruba songs in Lagos and when you blow in Lagos you've gone global.

Yorubas own most entertainment houses in lagos, award shows and promotions/radio/TV/press. These are the factors that help music in Yoruba language.
Lagos effect counts, that's the music industrial hub. Just like say y most of Nigeria footballer grow up on Jos. Ejuke said we couldn't make it in Kaduna until he came to Jos. ( That's where I will see people ready to invest in footballers. Same a music is to Lagos

Hope Igbos will not start attacking Yoruba music like Tinubu?

Yoruba music is accepted worldwide so any attack from a near-minority tribe won't do much harm.. they are the ones to lose when Lagos shuts her doors to their upcoming artistes like Phyno, Humble smith etc.

See how Linda Ikeji finished her blogging career when she ventured into tribalism by singling out Yoruba music talents like Wizkid, Olamide and even Davido for constant attacks to tarnish their image. You saw what the likes of Wizkid did to her, calling her 'stinking pvssy' which she is yet to recover from till date.
