Please go and develop a rental property and rest...business and 9-5 no dey too corollate na chop dem go dey chop your money.

Don't go into property investment if you don't have a business to generate you more funds, that 8m can barely complete a 2bedroom bungalow and cost of land inclusive. Building construction is way to expensive and the 8m will lead him to an abandoned project in which he will regret.

Don't let anyone deceive you that 5m can give you a decent home, ìŕò ńĺà

Hello Nairalanders,

So straight to the point. Please I need your advice about two things.

1. I just got my inheritance and I got cash of 8M and there's this popular belief of people squandering their inheritance,I don't want that to be my portion so which business can I invest it into. For context, I currently have a job and I'm not ready to quit so please put that into consideration.

2. My younger brother is still a student so he has asked me to save his portion of 6M in bank until he graduates but I don't think that's a good idea. I would rather he put it in some form of secure investment that will be yielding something. Kindly give us suggestions.

May the soul of my beloved Father continue to rest in peace. Amen
yell your brother to put his money on bitcoin by the time he graduate he would be richer than 6million

Invest in mutual funds it will yield good dividends every month. Make enquiry about it and you'll be glad you did. Ask banks about the stuff. You can also withdraw your money at any time. It will be a good investment for your Broda too.

Best advice, or treasury bills

I have cheap property for sale in Lagos here. House on half plot..you can buy for your brother. He will be renting it out till he graduates and decides to sell..or retain it..my quarter plot I bought in 2014 for 2.5m was priced for 12million recently even with all the rents I have collected. I am available to guide you.

For you, there's a CBN approved financial institution that gives 1m+ per year for every 8m you invest.

Look for a good Real Estate company, but land and sell later when you need your money, if you have never done any business before, don't even try with this money

Thank your stars your parents left u something . Since you're done with school, I guess you're already doing something, so my advice for u is to invest in yourself with respect to your field. For your brother; saving the money in the bank is the worst advice rather, buy a piece of land with future prospect. Make sure you lift the land and pay for the traditional rites as we do in the east. Keep the documents in your brothers name....he will be grateful when he graduates .

If your younger brother says you should keep his portion of 6million in the bank until he graduates...do just that! his money, his portion of his inheritance is not yours, you can do what ever you want to do with yours..keep your hands off his!

Look for a good location and buy an acre of land. If you are in the southwest, goto osogbo to secure an 1 acre of land.

Am suggesting osogbo cos it's the fastest growing city in the south west with no problem. That's the best investment you can ever do. After that, you can decide to further your education, be it masters or PhD.

Go to ARMInvest or AXAMansard or StanbicIBTC or UKdion investment. Look at the packages they have and what suits you in terms of time frame and risk assessment. Don't go into crypto or Forex if you don't know about them. The ones mentioned above are safe and insured.

Use your brother's share of 6million to buy land in one of these new estates in any of these cities:

Lagos
Owerri
Abuja
Portharcourt

Make sure the lands you will buy is located in an estate with global CofO.

Buy 1 or 2 for your brother depending on the price.

Use half of your own to also buy 1 plot of land. So in total you will have like 3 plots of lands, 1 for yourself and 2 for your brother.

Before your brother will graduate, trust me, his own lands will appreciate twice. This is the best you can do for him. Make sure the lands have proper papers oh, don't buy lands in undocumented areas.

Then take half of your own share and buy dollars and open a Dom account and deposit it while you make proper research on a service rendering business you can shuttle with your job.

Open a VFD bank fixed deposit account. Current rate is 17% per annum. At the end of one year, a guaranteed return of 1 million is sure on a 6 million investment after deductions (tax, etc.).

Fixed deposit with a reputable financial institution is the safest thing you can do with that money that will produce valuable returns. There are NO other way unless you're comfortable with insignificant paltry returns from worthless shares, high risk investments like crypto, or busineses that are prone to failure.

Do you have a TRUSTED TRUSTED person in ghana... If not make enquiries perhaps it can done in your own name.. Their interests rate for fixed deposits/, treasury bills are quite high.

Cut a little of the money... Learn a little crypto... After being satisfied with knowledge gathered, invest what you can afford to lose.. Crypto is huge now.. I follow a lady on Twitter, she went in with about 6000 usd, her worth is now 1 million usd in a year.. But its a volatile mine.

Do all the above whilst still working.. Keep the crypto money working for you..

As for your brother invest in a fixed deposit /dollar account, let it grow while hes also growing.. Don't go near Nigeria stocks, you will regret, whatevers too good to be true, is a lie

Buy genuine( good title like c of o)2plots of land worth 5m in a fast growing area for your brother and use part of the 1m to process the land documents in his name ( governor's consent) instead of keeping the money in a bank. You can also do the same then use the balance of 3m to either go out of the country, start automobile business or car rental services if you wish. The land is the most secured investment provided you buy in a choice area from genuine vendors.

Play safe. Dont do business you cant monitor. Dont do business you cant supervise. If I were you, I will be contented with little returns. I can change like 2 million to dollars and keep it in my Domiciliary account. When USD increases, I change it back to naira, I make some profit. And I buy treasury bills with the balance from the CBN through the banks. The return is guaranteed with the profit.

Many self acclaimed captain of industries without any track record will start asking you to partner with them on Nairaland. Please be careful.
