@op , property investment is the right choice of investment to key in. Look for a higher institution area and buy land to build hostels, students will always occupy your hostels year in year out.

Or you can invest in a mini lounge or bar, people will always patronise.

first class Comedian. grin... you want to buy land at student area and build hostel with just 8m Naira...

Hello Nairalanders,

So straight to the point. Please I need your advice about two things.

1. I just got my inheritance and I got cash of 8M and there's this popular belief of people squandering their inheritance,I don't want that to be my portion so which business can I invest it into. For context, I currently have a job and I'm not ready to quit so please put that into consideration.

2. My younger brother is still a student so he has asked me to save his portion of 6M in bank until he graduates but I don't think that's a good idea. I would rather he put it in some form of secure investment that will be yielding something. Kindly give us suggestions.

May the soul of my beloved Father continue to rest in peace. Amen

Enquire about eurobonds. it's in dollars. Search the topic on nairaland. Ask your bank about it

Don't you dare Nigerian stock market. You will regret it

Don't be in a hurry. Consider all options wisely. Money gone is gone forever.

My advise
1. If you are a graduate, why not study abroad like in UK or Germany or Finlqnd?

2. Don't go into business with all your money. In case of business, may be like N3m

3. If you must buy shares. Only with half of the money or part of it. Don't buy on speculation of rising of prices. But on based on worth of a company. Like First Bank, Zenith, GTB, etc.

Do not buy XYZ insurance or ABC insurance. Here today, gone tomorrow.

4. You can buy one plot of land in a town that you know well. Like N1.5 to N2m. But beware of land grabbers

8 million. I advise you assist those with small businesses that needs just like 200k or 300k to be fine. Spend 10% of your money on them, and you will really be happy in yourself. Happiness is in helping others.

Then you can do whatever you see as the best for yourself

First, if you are not business inclined, DON'T do any business, just stick to your job. But if you are business inclined, travel round, make thorough investigations (if possible, do boy-boy [internship] in the business market), then invest in the business. (I'll advise food or electronic business sha)

Second, avoid investing any amount in naira in any financial institution in Nigeria because naira loses value super fast these days of Buhari. Instead, you may invest your brother's 6m in buying US Dollars, Euros, British Pounds, and Chinese Yuan because these are stable currencies that doesn't lose value sharply like naira does. You can do this ONLY through a Nigerian bank. NEVER visit a bureau de change cuz they may give you fake or expired currencies (Yes, currencies do expire, especially Western currencies). Open the different accounts and keep the currencies in them.
Or you could buy solid minerals like gold, diamonds, etc and keep them WITH your bank. You may ask your bank for advise about this. But NEVER hold any currency investment in Naira, or any other unstable currency.

Third, IF (and only if) you have interest in migration, and age is on your side, you can migrate to any economically growing Western country (North America or Western Europe). With 8m, you should migrate now before naira falls further. You can go further studies or for migration proper.

Can one walk into a Nigerian bank & change Naira for Dollars today?

If so which bank accepts this?

This is the right time to buy crypto. It has fallen so much now. It may still fall more but not to the extent of putting your money in risk. Definitely before the end of the year it will shoot pass far above the current value. Use about 3 or 4 million of that money, put it in bitcoin, once the value doubles remove your capital and think of another investment while leaving the remaining there. Try this and come and pay Tithe to me later in the year

Buy land and build units self-contained for rent in a student area, as for your brother do as he instructed you to avoid future problems. Let him make up his mind on what to do with his money don't touch it.

corporate bonds or government bonds ??
Hero2t:
Save half in dollars. Buy bonds with 25% and use the remaining 25% to buy Bitcoin.

For your brother's share, save it in a Dom account and let him decide how he wants to spend it himself.

1) Buy 2 plots of Land in Ibeju Lekki. Say 5Million for 2.5 or 6Million for 3Million each. Convert 1Million and save it in dollars. Use the other 1Million and buy stocks, leave it for 5-10yrs. Use your salary to fund your personal lifestyle and some to fence your land at some point.

(2) For your brother. Save 2 Million in dollar acct. Buy him 1 plot of land for 3 or 3.5Million. Use the other buy stocks.

In 5-10yrs time, trust me. You are secured.

How does age and migration relate please?

There is a big relationship between age and migration.

At the point of getting a visa, a consulates officer is likely to turn down someone in their early twenties while granting someone in his fifties.

On reaching the destination, how quickly someone In their twenties will get a job is quicker than someone in their fifties.

Whether is their to consider too.

With these few points of mine, I hope I have been.able to convince you.......

as someone who has invested in few failed businesses I'd advise you keep working and take your time. Do proper findings. Don't let anybody lie to you.

Alternatively, you can quit your job and do proper research on the business for 2 months before you invest a naira on it.

Don't let anybody push you and don't let anybody know how much you have .

God bless you and hope you make your parents proud
