I wonder why people just believe that the solution to all thier problems is to move to Canada or the UK. But nobody seems to ask what the will of God is for their lives. Moving abroad may or may not favour you. I would advise you to seek God's face first as you may be moving from the frying pan to fire!

Not everybody is a pseudo religious believer and all things must have divine answers

Some just face and make decisions in life based on more realistic things which is why the OP has the question based on things you can see or feel or touch or just raw statistics whether he should stay or go

It’s that simple tbh

Dear Great Nairalanders

I am in urgent need of your advice on a decision I am about to make that could shape my life and my young family in about few months from now.

I am currently running successful businesses which give me a steady minimum of N1.5M per month with a potential for expansion. I have been nursing the idea of going to UK on a study Visa by September this year with the hope that I can get a well paying job that could surpass my current earnings here in naijja. I also intend to keep my naija business running but we all know trusting people with kind of investment can be tricky and risky.

What assurance do I have about earning more and having a better life in UK? What happens to my businesses I already built up in Naija? What happens to my properties here in naija?

Your advice will be of great help at this critical decision making moment of my life. Thank you

Bye

I really don't think anyone can manage your buisness like you do...

1.5 is not a joke income monthly...
You will leave a luxury life with 1.5 in naija rather in UK where you will live a managing live with that income equivalently...

You have to make a final decision
Forget people telling you to send your kids abroad and visit them while you here...
Broda. Expenses go finish u... (Based on a relative experience)

If you wanna stay in naija
Stay with your family and travel for holidays

If you wanna relocate...do it at once...

Do you know Two thirds of the U.S. population has less than $1000 in a savings account, one third has nothing, and only about 15% have $10,000+, according to a recent study. Note however that there are ways to save beyond a "savings account," but the fact remains that people are certainly not saving nearly as much as they should. The best way to frame the issue is to think about what your needs are because depending on such things like where you live, etc., your financial needs can be far different than the next guy

Send your family there and be the dependent but stay back in Nigeria while expanding in nigeria.

Visit your family from time to time and ensure your wife does a course that is on the SOL. After 5 yrs, she will get ILR and you can then enter as you so wish

Win win for you and your family

You can ask from folks on the UK thread though

Please stay where you are. The UK is just packaging, you will struggle a lot to even make that 1.5m a month. No doubt, the system is good but not designed for everyone to succeed.

It's not about how much you make in Nigeria.

This country is too volatile. Give yourself a chance by emigrating from Nigeria. Move to a sane society and build a life for yourself and your generation. Five years outside Nigeria is better than 20 years in Nigeria.

It's about the stability and sanity of the country, not about how much you make.

It's the same when it comes to job. Job security is more valuable than salary.

Its not always sane in these countries as you lots assume. I think we need to correct this assumption. It's utopian. Not everywhere in USA and UK, for instance, is sane. Hooliganism, racism, and some form of barbarism. I'm privileged to have seen these things.

If you have stable income in Nigeria and a business with the potential to expand, stay... Your chances of thriving in your business in Nigeria is much more than what your marginal earnings there with two or three hard jobs. If you make enough from your business in Nigeria, you can afford to send your children there and travel there as many times in the year as you like.

Our people are littered all over UK and US suffering. It all owes to this deceitful picture we have of these places.

@op
#1.5m per month is alot of money in Nigeria, truth is you can't earn more or equivalent in uk except or probably 5 years of your stay in u.k.
Meaning you have to spend more than 5 years in u.k before you can be earning upto #2m per month excluding bills.
Japa is for a better living and that of your kids.
Now for your business in naija, I advice you have a plan to be coming to naija once in 3 months to monitor and audit .

Edited.
Using myself as a case study, I started earning 500k ($2000) per month in 2016.
In 2021 I was earning 600k ($1200).
In 2022, am currently planning to japa before the end of this year.

@op, think twice!

Hmmm... sad
A colleague who was earning N115k monthly, relocated in the 3rd week of January. By mid-last week (2nd week of February) he was already looking to sell £2,000 he had earned from his factory job. He moved as accompanying spouse of his wife's study visa. undecided

Nigerians fall into either one of these two classes :crass ignoramous or total stupidity.
a man says he earns 3000$ a month in nigeria and want to run away to uk! How many nigerians are earning 10.000$ a year in uk? At least i have my people there who cant afford a spare 500£ in a month.
i mean this man is clearly lying about his income because that earn that much in nigeria dont even talk about canada or usa not fox hole uk.
the only business that you earn that much and still wanna run away is either NURTW or armed robbery business

If you are doing well in Nigeria in this current Buhari time. There is no need to japa at all except you are a footballer The reason why people japa is because they are not doing well in Naija. If you japa, remember you have to start over again in another man country, you have to work your way twice hard especially and trust me the UK is expensive. If you can going to school, you can do school online and get a temporary visa with the intention of returning back to Naija

Move your family to the UK while you go visiting from time to time. Ones your wife is well grounded then you can get some semi-trustable hands to help you oversee your naija business then you can as well go join your family over there in the UK...Shalom!

@ifytrik

Please, read again. Not weekly but monthly & @ being yahoo boy is a No No.... There are many legit businesses that can fetch you even far more than that. With opportunities and good strategy you go make am.

First of all if it's true you have a business that is fetching such amount of money on a weekly basis then relocating to the UK or any other country shouldn't be an option right now, you should be thinking of expanding your business and not traveling outside, if aliko dangote and femi otedola are based in Nigeria then I see no reason you should be thinking of relocating outside when your business is booming and fetching you good money, keep expanding your business and watch yourself become a billionaire in few years, that is if you none yahoo boy ogrin[/quote]

3rd week of January. And in two/three weeks, he had gotten a work permit, a job, and had earned £2000 (outside tax)? Lol. Don't believe him.

If you are in Lagos... great.

Elsewhere and you are probably a genius.

I hope you continue running the businesses, do not close them down.

Contact a solicitor to take charge of your affairs/businesses while giving them a cut for their work.

If you earn 1.5m a month you shouldn’t be thinking about going to UK to work but rather to expand your business across the globe. Why would you abandon a successful business over a future you can’t guarantee? That’s too risky.

I will suggest you sit with your wife and discuss this matter as her input is most important.
For you to eat your cake and have it, the green light must come from your wife,as the greater sacrifices will be bore by her.
Now my suggestion.
You can stay in Nigeria to manage your business while you relocate madam and d children....and u LL have agreed times you LL visit. You will need to make her see reason why u need to keep your options open.
Why do u need a plan B? Just one ill thought out policy from our unstable government can capsize the boat of your florishing business. It has opened severally in d past.
With your family already settled ,u have a country to relocate to...
Who knows, doors might also open for more business to invest in abroad through your wife.
But personally,I won't leave my good business in Nigeria for study abroad oo. If it's related to my current business, there are numerous seminars, workshops ( some more expensive than tution) I can explore to meet that need..
I will you d very best of luck in your decision sir
