Last year, it was mentioned that investors will appreciate UCAP'S/APR's dividends by the time the big ones started releasing their results.....,.they were selling at circa N5/6 that time. grin

This market can be irrational. Pz declared #.25 @#7.00 and APR declared #.50 @#7 plus and is receiving bashing. That means Apr tried oh
That's Mr. Market for us.......
Nascon paid 40k or so last year and received little or no beating, just shed N1 or so, then stabilized back @ circa 13.......later jumped back to 14......
APR paid 50k, and they sent it back to below 6....... grin

If to say Zenith didn't pay up to 2.70 paid last year ni, you for see how Mr. Market go deal with am..... grin

Well, I'm of the opinion that anyone seated in sound stocks should just manage Wetin the stock bring like that....
Mr. Market has a mind of its own.....some may not even be punished like that.
May also depend on general situation of market as well.

Oil did $110 today despite the US intervention by release of 60million barrels to increase supply. There are fears of even higher oil prices. Its clear that the major beneficiaries to the increase in prices of crude oil are the upstream players. On the NSE, the only clear player in this sector appears to be Seplat ( as for Transcorp, its still debated). I Deliberately do not want to mention Oando because the managers are so trick and might have even stripped the company of the upstream asset without our knowledge.
But Seplat's price is now clearly out of reach even as there appears to be virtually no supply.
Totalenergies Nigeria Plc as quoted on the NSE has no Upstream asset.
The arm of Conoil that owns and profits from its upstream oil asset is different from the one that is quoted on the NSE.

Much of what we are left with on the NSE are just "fuel stations that also sell Engine oil, brake fluid etc"
On a good day, we ought to benefit from this oil boom, if not by any means, but atleast through the general impact on the Economy that largely depends on the oil sector. But our "integrity government" says we should forget it- we no go see anything. They only promise us the worse as oil prices increase.
It is very clear that oil prices will rise to heights unexpected .
The question now is where do we look to profit from this oil boom that is just starting?

Dividend is never my target unless I am trapped.

If you must invest for dividend, check those stocks with good dividend history at least 5 yrs is okay.

My 2022 dividend is already collected in capital appreciation. No need for it again.

Guinness is just returning to profitability after series of losses....
They paid 0.46k in the last financial year if I could still recollect very well........and the market responded well to it because investors understood the plight of that sector.........
If there should be an improvement to what was paid last year, it will still be a welcomed development to Guinness and brewery sector in general............more reason we can't see bashing in the price of NB......cos there was improvement.
Besides, the parent companies are serving as backbone for them.

Even Ardova. How does oil price rise affect the Stock market in general and are there some companies that would be affected directly from this whether negatively or positively?

I sincerely wish you all the best.

Sorry for the Wapco issue, you must have entered when it peaked.
Was stagnant @N9/11 for so long before it eventually moved that time, even touched N8 something........some lost patience and sold.........before it eventually moved.
More reason entry price' is key and it's good to carry out DD before buying.

WAPCO is still good..........only that timing is one of the key factor.
I also want to believe it wasn't totally a 'wasted year' because N1.00 dividends were declared twice in the process........if you didn't receive it, try and contact their Registrar.

Weldone for the selfless updates Madam Mercy.
I was expecting this too based on historical trends. Anyone buying UCAP/AFRIPRUD after release of FY financial reports might be buying at a wrong time. It always obey the saying that "the good result has been factored into its current price AT release of reports". In my opinion, the best way to position for dividends in these stocks is to buy when there is low activity in the market during the year (maybe June-Spetember), OR if buying for trades/shorts, one should buy about two months before release of Financials (based on speculation that it will rise before release and still rise when some people start rushing to buy with the hope of juicy dividends).
Capitas7:

Nice approach! I am not sure if this trend still holds for UCAP, but I have noticed that the price action after announcement of FY report makes it difficult to buy for shorts or even for increasing one's position profitably. If one is unable to join the wagon before announcement, it is usually not worth it. And in the past, based on what I observed, it took some time after markdown before it's price went low to reasonable (for current shareholders) pre-announcement level.

NB: This is just an observation. I might re-invest my dividend in the same UCAP if I don't find another stock with potentials of growth like UCAP. Current price though undecided.

The summary is that an investor who bought at N9 in H2 last year and enjoys the capital appreciation plus apprx 15% div yield and a trader who bought UCAP two months ago at about N10-N11 to sell at N14 a few days after release of Financials would both make more profit than an "investor" or a "sharp guy" who buys at N13-N14 after release of Financials for the hope of enjoying the juicy dividends and then selling shortly after payment.
