Former Director-General, Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Professor Bola Akinteriwa has stated that the Russian government may take a sanctionary measure against Nigeria.

Akinteriwa said this during a Seminar entitled: Russia-Ukraine War and the imperatives of a new global order, organized by the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs yesterday in Lagos.

The Former DG explained that Russia might undertake such measures on the basis of two factors.

He noted the fact that Nigeria has taken a position on its war against Ukraine and also that Nigeria voted against her at the United Nations.

Akinteriwa stated that there is a show of partisanship from the Nigerian government when its foreign minister said that it should withdraw its troops from Ukraine.

“Two factors are most likely impact on the relationship of Nigeria with Russia.

“Nigeria’s Foreign Minister said Russia should withdraw its troops. The implication of that is already partisan.

“You are now saying Russia is at fault. For the mere fact that you are saying withdraw simply means Russia is at fault.

“The second part is that Nigeria voted against Russia at the United Nations.

“In this case, Russia is most likely to reckon with those two facts and as a result take sanctionary measures against Nigeria.”
He said.

The International Activist, therefore, urged the Nigerian government to acquire nuclear weapons and seek for a greater country which makes it strategic focused.

Akinteriwa explained that there is nothing wrong in acquiring nuclear weapons, taking a swipe against some countries acquire them and saying others would be careless with them.

The Seminar also witnessed the contributions of The Director-General, NIIA, Professor Eghosa Osaghae, Assistant Professor Efem Ubi, Professor Femi Otubanjo, and Ambassador Olusegun Akinsanya.

Others were Dr. Joshua Bolarinwa, Dr. Rita Agu, Professor Femi Mimiko and Mr. Bola Olajuwon.

This man is talking out of place. As a former DG of an international affairs research institute he should know better than anyone else that Nigeria is a signatory to the nuclear non proliferation treaty and so cannot seek nuclear weapons. Besides with our poor maintenance culture in this country a nuclear radioactive fallout will be a catastrophic disaster

Russia is a dying country and will soon become inconsequential...by the time American and the west finish dealing with them they will know say power pass power. They will soon hang Putin’s head on a spike. American is using this opportunity to tell China and North Korea who is the Boss.

Which sanctions? The sanction of a dying horse. Why didn't Gazprom, a Russian energy company, invest in Nigeria when they were given a slot in the creek during the GEJ administration. Putin came and ran away

Mumu post.
Nigeria is one of the over 100 countries who condemned the invasion.
Besides, Putin has nothing he can threaten us with, it is the other way round.

Also a no fly zone is not a declaration of war you dummy. It can lead to a war obviously because if you shoot down another counties plane they will retaliate but a no fly zone by its very definition does not allow for targeting ground assets otherwise the name makes no sense. In any case who gave the UN the right to declare war? Was the whole objective when the silly organization was formed not to find a “diplomatic solution to international conflicts and preventing war”? You see how you confusing yourself?

America won’t dare declare a no fly zone over Ukraine because Russia is a nuclear powers. Typical American cowards. They only show their power with poor Arab counties with no nuclear weapons. Let them shoot Putin’s planes down like they did to Ghaddafi na. Abi is it not the same “freedom” they are fighting for in Ukraine? Looool

Everytime I see modern slaves here on nairaland worshipping the USA,I always remember what one of my white friend tells me about most Nigerians THEY ARE SLAVES by default, you don't have to chain them to make them inferior.
To be fair there are still an extremely Small faction of people that are not slaves by default among the youths especially on real platforms like Twitter but nairaland houses the worst of the worst
Having lived in USA I can categorically confirm even Americans acknowledge Thier country's shortcomings and do not dare praise USA when it comes to international relations and mostly definitely do not worship them like you Nigerians do.even black Americans protest Thier government involvement in virtually everything they get into.
Trump called you people a shithole and he was 100% right about that.
The same USA has over 400biological weapon land in over 40 countries.
They are currently bombing Somalia here in Africa
The same USA with the highest case of racism in the world
They killed gadaffi and turned Libya a country that has once had one of the highest standard of living in the middle east to rubbles.
The same USA invaded and killed and estimated 2milliom people in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, serbia,Sudan.
The same USA destabilized Liberia their own former colony and it is now one of the poorest nation on earth now
The same USA Which controls Thier big techs that in turn controls your daily lives here and what you get to see and not see on social media
The same USA has started a war with over 90 countries and started wars that all of the world combined.
The same USA who supplied isreal with weapons to kill children in Palestine .
China has 20 times more investment in Africa than USA and has never invaded or kept any Africans as slaves, but foolish Nigerians will still stupidly say china is bad.
The only thing worth emulating in USA are some of the nice civilians living there, the rest is as filthy as it gets.
There is a reason why USA is the most hated country in the world.

Nigeria is a non-aligned nation, which means we should have not voted at all.

But we don't need nuclear weapons. The politics of those things are complicated if you don't have them already and we'll probably use it on ourselves anyway.
