Its Not always so. Ask the thousands of Americans moving to live permanently in south. These "transplants" as they call themselves have money tricks that you don't know.Even men as an immigrant knows things to the point i can make lots of $$$ and afford stuff a lot of Americans can only dream about.

Its all in the mind and how your outlook and expectations are.If you keep thinking that "can't do" attitude then life conforms to your expectations.Let me leave this apt quote for you...

"situations and circumstances do colour life,but at least you've been given a mind to choose what the colour shall be"

Abeg leave story, an investment banker in Utah or Oklahoma will NEVER earn the same pay as an investment banker in New York!

I'm not a guy. Your immigration status? That's left for you to work out, cos that's a completely different topic. My comment is based on those who go there for greener pasture. If you're going there to work, then get your work permit. If you don't have that then remain in your country until you get it and stop running around like a fugitive.
Perhaps those home appliances you mentioned that are already available in the house, the average man over here can't afford them cos they're way too expensive

So why can't you make your own like that? You complain of bad leaders/politicians still you celebrate/support the thiefing politicians......

Corruption is in both leader and the lead, youths inclusive
And where did I make comments celebrating our insane politicians? One thing you should know is that policies set up in this country are not in favour of the younger generation... So how do we grow? That's why most people will leave this country if they have the opportunity to a saner environment where things works and where the government prioritize human lives

The issue in this country is not about policy, the problem we black/Nigeria have is greed/selfishness......we care not about the next person......you can as well check the attitude of the common man.....those that are not in power.......
It's because the youths have the same mentality of the old, that is why the youths also support the old(bad policy) and can't change any bad policy.......

Traveling abroad wouldn’t change the narrative. Is still the youths that sold their PVC to the old people in government. If the youths really want change they should stop being used by the old politicians to get to the office and champion the cause for not too young to run campaign to replace the old recirculing people in Nigeria government

This JAPA syndrome is modern slavery.

When you think you can only make it when you go to the white man's land and then you reach there and find out it's not Eldorado as you imagined.

Then shame won't let you admit that you made a mistake living the life as a second class citizen coupled with working multiple odd jobs at odd times, harsh weather, food struggles, racism and classism, heavy taxation, high cost of living and depression/loneliness so you go on public forums like Naraland and act like you are living your best life.

We know your ways.

You guys here lies unnecessary about Living in abroad esp in the US. Having lived here for years I can tell you that what you hear are mostly lies and overblown . I only advise anybody that makes between above 1.5million monthly in Nigeria to stay back and enjoy, but if you earn less than that, you will not regret been in the US as one starting over life or newbie without even papers. what I want to explain here is not the plight of established Nigerians with doc or that are already green card or citizens but the plight of B1B2 visa holders, info undocumented Nigerians, not having legal right to work but are struggling and are working hard.
There are rents between 500 to $800 every month. You can pay your other bills like electricity, water, gas all around less than 150. There are plenty ways to negotiate your bills and pay your gas even in winter now when everything is high. So you can be paying btw 700 to $1000 dollars for both rent and all your bills. Depending on the job you are doing as a new settlers with tourist visa and without any SSN to work, you can still make btw 2.5 to $6k (2.5to 4million monthly an you can comfortably save up to 50% monthly)every month even in average American state. This is the worst scenario for new Nigerian immigrants without papers. But the truth is that many of them may not pay up to $1000 monthly because they could be three in a three bedroom apartment and pay average of just 400 monthly, saving a huge. Many of us passed through this before we get where we are. I mean 80% of Nigerian will tell you this as far as they didn't come with green card, which means starting in a hard way till you get your papers. Once you get your papers and documents, you are free to asses many areas for your careers and start earning big . Nigerian here are not poor but above average. Rent of $2500 or whatever is a choice and rent does not strictly about the quality of a house in all cases but about the location. Eg you could have a great Duplex in epe that costs you 1 million monthly but thesame in VGC could be 10 million. Yes, places like los Angeles, San Francisco could be costly in tent but they do have a higher pay than other cities in Alabama, Mississippi etc where where salary is low and houses are cheap. That just it here too. I hate people discouraging others from Japa from Nigeria. Finally, life is hard in every parts of the world but some places are far far better than others

God bless you for this clarification

You’re right it can’t be converted just like that, but the difference is, they don’t pray for light to iron their clothes in the morning, they have washing machines they can throw their clothes in and wash anytime they like, no need to wait for light or use noisy generators. They have the basic things of life, cleaner job will feed you and house you if you don’t spend above your level. Can you say the same for Nigeria?

Who are the ones complaining in the screen shots again? Nigerians?

Hhm... I really don't know why you're getting aggressive. It's a conversation and we're here to put things into perspective. I read you correctly before disagreeing. I think asking who in Nigeria earns up to the American minimum wage is a wrong approach cause Nigerians don't need to earn American minimum wage. This doesn't mean your position is wrong (I don't know enough about Nigeria to argue that). It only means you need other tools to express that instead minimum wage conversion. The fact that you mentioned purchasing power afterwards as a way of buttressing your point doesn't change the fact that you kicked off wrongly. There shouldn't even be a conversion in the first place.

The factors that make living abroad better include the availability of amenities, security and stability. Out there, you have a better control of your expenses (less probability of emergencies), investments will yield better returns, you have higher utilities, and most importantly, the tendency to earn even more. If you want to compare minimum wages, drive it solely by expenses and not exchange rate. The presence of exchange rates makes every other calculation wrong cause the sample earners are in two different countries. That's just my point.

You don't know enough about Nigeria .guy no dey mention or quote me if you don't understand what i am saying again. If you can't do your research to verify what i typed please stay away.

It is not rocker science compare the minimum wages of both countries with respect to their purchasing power.that is not too hard to do.

I saw some dullards quoting me and typing nonsense,some i ignored because i know they have nothing in their brain so it is a waste of energy responding to them.

Did you studied Economics at all? What is the basis for comparison when the cost of living are different.
Stop saying what you don't know! Minimum wage in the US is not 31k it varies, it is even less than that in Texas where minimum hourly rate is $7.50/hr
Between how much is the person on 31k going to pay in bills? Have you asked yourself? I am going to use Houston, Texas as an example.. in a relatively safe are on the average this is what you get:
Rent (one bedroom). $ 850/month
Utilities (it varies). $ 250/month
Car insurance (varies). $ 120/month
Phone bill (varies). $. 75/month
Health insurance (co pay that varies)
$350/month
Feeding. $200/month
I am excluding internet and this bill is for a bachelor no family.
You are going to pay tax that varies on the 31k. Your take home without tax is $2,583/ month going by your 31k/year.
Add all those expenses and take off taxes you might be left with just $200 for you to save. What is $200 especially for an African man that has dependants back home?
The example I gave was my own bill when I first got to Texas. Mind you till today the minimum wage in Texas is $7.50/hr if you use that to calculate the bills then you won't even have the $200 left with you, you will even go on the negative. That is why you see people having two jobs which is not easy at all. You never have time for your life and your health will be at risk.
Nevertheless this not saying that American is a bad place to live but just be guided and stop the baseless comparison.

I studied a bit in UK and worked small.
Like joke, I no just see that money.
As a student, you can only do part time work, ie 4hrs a day - £500 monthly. And E finish.
After graduation, I was doing 8 hrs a day. about £900 monthly. E still finish.
Rent, transport, gas heating (because of terrible cold), food, visa fees, school fees...
You can't just only work.
You must do another runs to get paper. And that one will chop the remaining of your money.
1, 2, 3, 4 years? Na im I kukuma return like that.

You will just be working as a slave.
Earn money, carry all and pay debts
Earn again, pay debts again!!
over and over and over till you are old.

I would appreciate a bit of context to this your post because I do have some friends currently studying in the UK and what you've written here is contrary to what they told me.

Minimum wage is 9 pounds/hour. A student is limited to 20 hours weekly: 80 hours monthly.

9 * 80= 720 pounds

Rent= 300 pounds (All bills inclusive) PCM
Transport= 50 pounds
Feeding= 70 pounds
Miscellaneous= 100 pounds
Total = 520 pounds
Savings 720 - 520 = 200 pounds monthly for someone that lives a modest lifestyle.

Note the above only applies during term time when they're allowed to work (only 20 hours) of which we know some students still do other runs to supplement their income.

During the holidays/summer break, they're allowed to work unlimited hours as they see fit.

So unless you provide some context to your post, then you're out rightly lying. undecided

They want to justify suffering by telling others that people abroad are suffering. I don’t know any Nigerians here in America that are suffering, even the ones that have been here only a few months.

I wouldn’t discourage anyone serious about living a good, comfortable life from migrating to another country. Anyone can make it and live a good life if they have the right mindset.

Good question. If you are here my brother na so so work and work... You have very little time for recreation. Back home in Africa you see the way we interact with our neighbors freely there is nothing like that here or very low.. most times you get back from work you are in your room, it can be very boring.. no "life" these are just two examples. America is not a place where you make friends easily, you have to be very careful because you don't know who you might be dealing with. These are just two examples albeit after some time you will adjust and get used to it but my brother there can never be a balance home is home.
NB: Please have it in mind every where has the good, the bad and the ugly.
