Should A Wife Be Allowed To Take A Big Decision Without Informing Her In-law?

Good afternoon everybody.i will make this short as possible.

A friend of mine just died in luth (cause of that was anemia). He was operated upon and they told his wife to get blood (2 r.o) for transfusion after the procedure but due to being a jehova witness she decided not to get the blood (jehova witness don't take blood,is against there faith).

She had a back and forth about the blood with the doctors and was asked to sign incase anything happen which she sign without the husband family knowledge....it was only her and her fellow jehova witness that took the decision.

He passed away this midnight, she called her in-law to inform them and I also got the information from the deceased younger brother.

On getting here the family found out the surgery was successful but he died of anemia, the doctors told them it was the wife decision not to get him blood against there prescriptions and infact she signed taking responsibility if anything happens.

A serious fight is happening here, the family are claiming she killed there son which I totally agree to as well.

So this my question, should a wife be allowed to take such a big decision without informing the husband family first.

Note; it was her in-laws that were paying the hospital bills.
Those that brought the strange sect have long shifted their ground on many of their beliefs but our people are too dogmatic. She just killed the man And these people are good in fetish practice. Jehovah witness is not the same as Christianity they are Antichrist.

You don't carry out any procedure on a patient without consent. That patient wasn't taken to the hospital unconscious. He was alive & consented to the surgery. He may have been offered transfusion to which he decline. His family has no case here. The wife is innocent too

The article never said he was offered blood transfusion before or that he declined. So don't let us add Jara to the story. Wife was clearly asked, and she declined. She's at fault. She cld have told the family about the weighty decision. Now she killed someone's son and wants to move on with hers.

Are you saying that mere marriage is a defense for her negligence (because she actually failed to do what she is supposed to do to save the husband)?,I so much believe that the husband was in a state that he can't think for himself hence the wife thinking for him(by signing the undertaking).
I believe she is liable and can be prosecuted the same way government can prosecute that parents that refused blood transfusion on their child and the child dies.

If it was Europe she will go to jail for murder.. being a wife doesn't give you the right to deny him his chance to live.
Which Europe?
Una go just open mouth waa dey talk wetin u no know, abi dem tell you say Jehovah's witnesses in Europe don't refuse blood transfusions and in some cases may not survive?
Or you don't know everyone have the right to choose a particular kind of treatment? In fact one can even outrightly reject treatment, it's his right and will be respected.
Maybe because people don't sue organizations here that's why everybody do as they like and this is one good case to head to court.
Abi u think say I don't have the right to sue you for issuing a particular kind of treatment that I abhor?

THIS CAN'T BE TRUE.... Get your fact right Peco.... You don't judge cases on sentiment or being emotional. If you dig deep to the matter there will definitely be a standing order from the husband on this matter.... You only conclude on what you hear or sees. We all have a our beliefs... its personal.... I have seen someone who took a blood transfusion and still died. Its not about accepting the transfusion or not. Its about holding to your faith and belief no matter what..... Those who are afraid of death are those that their life is full of regrets.

Death is not something so big that ends everything.... what ends everything is your disobedience to God's law even out of fear.

The power or resurrection is in God's hand not in blood or in a man's hand.

Doctor don't safe lives they only push the death timing forward.
Tell them Bro, the ones that will still die after blood transfusions nko?
They will just do as if once you accept blood the surgery or whatever treatment is automatically successful and the patient won't die.

Be ye not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. The man was yoked to his wife.... both Jehovah Witnesses ... both believe in not receiving blood. Why can't the family respect that? Did the husband request blood?... And the two shall become one..... the family can only advise.... it's for the wife to decide. With those butchers and money hungry vampires at LUTH posing as professional doctors the family need to investigate if the operation was necessary and if it was indeed successful. I wouldn't be surprised if they went in to snatch a kidney.
You're making a point, in fact this is another angle to it.
A lot of quacks parading as surgeons, what people don't know is that there have countless bloodless surgeries and the patients came out alive that most doctors in foreign lands now embrace bloodless surgeries.

This case above is one case where I am very glad the Lagos state government acted with swiftness and firmness.

If keeping our faith leads to death, we are fine by it. Ukrainians are sacrificing their lives for their country. Their country can't raise them up if they die. But Jehovah can.

You can't serve God if you lack faith (Read Hebrews 11:6). That is what is lacking here. Our belief is based solidly on the scriptures. We used to take donate and receive blood in the past but when by searching the scriptures it turned out to be unacceptable, we stopped.

Please read Genesis Leviticus 17:4, Acts 15:20

Some cannot wait to hear about Jehovah's Witnesses belief with regards to blood transfusion before they start spilling their bile against them. In defense of the Witnesses, I want to challenge the OP to carry out a survey or research to find out the following :
1. Do Jehovah's Witnesses sign a power of attorney to indicate their stand regarding blood transfusion and do they have the legal rights to do so?
2. Of all the number of patients that accept blood transfusion, do all of them survive? What percentage of them survive and what percentage die
3. Of all the Jehovah's Witnesses that refuse blood transfusion, what percentage survive and what percentage die?
4. Of all those that take blood, what percentage come home with HIV/Aids or Hepatitis B a few years after the blood transfusion?
5. Of all the blood being sold for transfusion (and some of us know how blood is sourced in emergency rooms in government hospitals), what percentage is screened and what percentage actually proves that there are no pathogens in the samples?

My point is that so many people are dying in our hospitals daily, not just from blood related issues but from numerous easy to treat conditions. Why then should we demonize the Witnesses as if they are responsible for every death in the hospital?

Coming to their beliefs, Jehovah’s Witnesses are the only genuine Christians I know. They truly love their God and will go to any length to obey his commands. If you were tested by God to kill your only son would you have attempted it? Today many of you call Abraham the father of faith but how did he get the faith? If you were there when Jesus told his disciples that they would need to eat his flesh and drink his blood (not literally), would you have been among those to run away or those to pay attention and understand his teaching?
God will bless you abundantly

1. You are are a joke dear friend. What law? Was it not in Lagos state, Nigeria that a baby was taken away from the care of his/her parents when he/she was sick and needed blood but the parents refused because of this same belief? So, what law are you talking about because definitely not the Nigeria law.

2. She did everything wrong. She didn't have authority to reject blood for her husband based on her belief. What if the husband wanted the blood?
3. Secondly, she couldn't even afford the hospital bills but could make such life and death decision! That's funny. She should be charged to court and let's find out what the judge will say.
1. I don't know the particulars of the story of the baby you claim was taken away the parents. However, in this particular case, two things are sure. A wife can sign a consent form in behalf of her husband by marriage law and this being what happened here. undecided

2. A consent form allows you two opens... accept of reject. So long as she could legally sign that document, the law does not impose on her any particular option. undecided

3. Signing a consent form has absolutely nothing to do with one's ability or inability to foot one's own bills.. undecided

Take a look at the previous responses up until this point before proceeding please. undecided

Nigerian doctors are often very disinterested when a JW says he won't accept blood . As a doctor myself , this report has many loophole. If they plan to do surgery on the man, the first thing is to request for blood before you go into the operating theatre. You can't take a patient for surgery without request for blood donation . If the man refuse or the wife refuse ,the attending LuTh doctor should have referred the man to a hospital of their choice for the surgery .
So where all these done ? How come surgery was done when no blood was available before the surgery.
There are hospitals in Lagos who treat JW patients without blood
Secondly , there are options or alternative to blood transfusion....blood transfusion itself has its own risk and there is need to respect people belief . In addition and more importantly, what else was done to this patient or just because the wife refuse blood transfusion they just abandon the patient to himself to die just to prove a point. That would amount to gross professional negligence.
As a doctor , I have seen many JW who refuse blood transfusion and still had successful surgeries or treatment and alive till date.
Well, since this is a journalist report and it's not a first hand information from hospital , I reserve some of.my comments
True the person narrating the story already crucified the wife so he can as well no bother to get ghe full details, I agree with you.

There is nothing like negligence on her part in this. She was given a consent form to answer yes or no, and she answered no. undecided

An following her husband's own belief, it turns out, she saved him. undecided

2. Ofcourse, she could only have acted only in the case the man was unable to do so himself. undecided

3. Prosecuted whom? Please cite the case in question so we can visit the facts. undecided

What I find is people hold doctors as gods... whatever the doctor says must not be questioned. Blood is life .... if blood will be needed to replace that lost during surgery ... why will they go ahead with the surgery when the wife said no blood? Didn't they know he will die? It was for them to refuse to do the surgery... after all.... doctors are there to save lives. Bunch of money hungry butchers at LUTH.
