madridguy: Not doing the right is another different thing entirely, but to tell me that SIM-NIN linking does not have substantial potential to enhancing our security, wouldn't make any sense. So, you need to understand the direction of my argument before just commenting. I certainly understand that right policies require the right set of attitude and actions to work. For now, SIM-NIN linking is a right framework being put in place. How we leverage it to better security is another issue altogether. 1 Like |

CoolAmbience: Oga na you where no get sense, What information did you provide when filling your nin ? . So if a kidnapper takes a victim nin linked sim to contact someone, what information do you think the line would reveal Do you think the information on your bvn and nin are any different ?? Pls don't be talking nonsense. Nin can only help identify the owner of the line , nothing more than identification . So thinking nin would stop crime is very foolish , it's more for monitoring 4 Likes |

slickycee: I am just thinking that if the kidnapper use the victim's line to make a call, then the victim's line will be traced. I am not speaking for the Nigerian government but it will be difficult for the bandits to pick up their ransome. Again, it is a policy world wide to have a NIN. In the UK, you can't do anything without it. That is why the first thing to do when you travel to the UK is to register for the National Insurance Number (NIN). 1 Like |

SmartyPants: Don't get me wrong. I'm all for NIN linkage with SIM and I've done mine immediately the directive was given. I believe it's a step in the right direction. Your other reasons are also very valid. I'm only saying they negotiate for ransom with their victim's number. And if the police really want to work, they can track their approximate location while receiving their call whether they use their own phone no or the victim's no. |

Okay... Even in advance countries with all the registration, they still commit shit, Nigeria needs total over hauling. Bvn them still commit fraud, with national id they still failed, how is NIN different? Please we need a change. 2 Likes |

For the ignorant ones on this thread. NIN, BVN and SIM Registration all hold the same information. In nin you fill your personal information , next of kin and you capture your finger print and face . You provide the same information when registering a new sim and when register for bvn. Now the reason for this redundancy is that Sim registration is more influenced by the Telecos,. The network providers are managing this database. While Bvn Is managed by the CBN And nin is mangaged by the Government. Before now, NIN has been in existence, NIN didn't exist because of sim card. But all of a sudden the government mandates every citizen to link their nin with their phone numbers. The government just wants to monitor all active network lines in the country independently. Without relying on information from the telecos . The government wants to act on their own, without any other party knowing what's up. The intention for linking NIN is not in the Interest of the public safety. Don't expect because you linked your NIN to your line, Nigeria would become a safer place, and because I haven't linked mine doesn't mean I'm a criminal. We are all entitled to our opinions, but for the sake of the ignorant ones, let's always say the truth.. So others can learn. 7 Likes 1 Share |
