Hi House,
I use Toyota Matrix 2003. Last week I noticed that the gear disengage while in drive . I moved it to D2 then later back to D and it started moving fine. I visited my Mechanic who did transmission Oil change and also changed the gear filter. I drove the car around afterwards and everything seems fine. However, on my way to work the following day, the gear failed again in D, and later pick up again. My mechanic is advising I replace the gear box.

PO171 is the fault code.

Please I need your advise on what to do ?

If you can buy the obd 2 scanner on jiji or nairaland or jumia/konga you are good to go. You will download the app on your to connect it. But you can get a scanning too l from any standard mechanic shop

See link above. Try and read up. This has nothing to do with transmission. Don't go and spoil your gearbox

It has to do with MAF sensor, dirty air filters, fuel injector related issues.

What is the name of the tranx oil he put in your car?

@Autowiz

I have a Camry XLE 2010 edition. I have been having a gear box issue for some months now. The gear would not go beyond gear 2. The I try to accelerate the sound from the engine increases. Sometime even change from park to rev the car jerk heavily. I have seen 2 gear box specialists. They problems seem to return weeks after they fix it. And when I used the sport gear it doesn't select 2. It jumps from 1 to 3 or 3 to 1

Good afternoon,

Were you able to solve this issue. What worked for you?

Thanks.

Pls I need advise on my 05 corrolla gear. It works perfectly in reverse, but the Drive doesnt work until I rev the car very well before it will move.
I took it to my mechanic he said we should service the gear, change the oil, and the filter. After all this the car is stil the same. It moves only in reverse, Drive doesnt move until I Rev the engine.

See link above.

If it is the shift solenoid, please avoid anyhow road side mechanic because they may complicate the issue.

Check oil level
Again, have you top the oil or change it before? What oil did you use?
Did you do any work on your car prior to this issue ?

Please share more info

Thanks for your input.
I am one person that is very particular about gear oil.
I use Toyota T4 and I change my gear oil every 12 month.
Problem started when I noticed gear oil leakage.
My mechanic said it was gear sump issue so we had it changed.
Same thing happened again after 2months.
This is the third time since November.
I am yet to figure out why the leakage though but mechanic keep saying it's the sump.

Hi Guys,

I drive a toyota corolla 2004, i just changed my engine when the old engine was smoking. The old engine was working fine except for the smoke, after changing the engine, i discovered i couldn't go more than 60km/h and climbing hills becomes a problem.

I went back to the mechanic yesterday to complain, so he checked the car with his machine and there was no error code on the machine.

He invited a gear mechanic to check the car and the man tested the car by driving it.,he told us that the problem is the car brain valve and i will need to change it.

My fear now is that i don't want to spend another money on the brain valve and the problem still remains.

Please kindly advise if i can go ahead.

What is brain valve? Where is it located? Or you mean valve body? Why are they changing it ?

Are you sure they have not blocked the check light with black sellotape?

Good afternoon, guys! Please I need assistance on my altima nissan 2003 automatic transmission.

I travelled on a long journey with the car on Thursday, drove for like 4 hours. While on the journey, I perceived a light smell of burnt oil. On Friday morning, the drive gear didn't engage. I put it in drive for over 30 minutes it didn't engage. Reverse is engaging perfectly. The gear oil is not smelling burnt now.

I had similar experience early January when I travelled with the car. The drive was taking long to engage after the journey. The gear was serviced by changing the oil and cleaning the filter and the drive started engaging.

This time around the drive is not engaging at all. Reverse is engaging. There is enough oil in the gear and it's not smelling burnt.

Please what is the problem with the transmission and the likely solution?

Thanks

I use Acura MDX 2008, i noticed my transmission jerks when i change from 'P' to 'D', also it gives a little nod/jerk when downshifting after you slow down. No fault codes related to transmission after scanning. Changed transmission oil(Original) ATF & all the engine & transmission seats, with complete shafts(both side) yet problem persist. Though the Car shifts very well. What could be the problem & solution.
