Nigeria's GDP is higher than that of South Africa but the country is better than Nigeria by far in terms of infrastructure...I'm talking from experience

It's not by GDP. Have you taken their population into consideration? Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita is a better measure of average economic wellbeing or standard of living. If we're looking at GDP per capita, Nigeria will not even make the top 50.

Lots of Eastern European countries are worse off in my view: Moldova, Belarus, Georgia, Northern Cyprus

And you are asking why we are in this mess? The OP is asking for WHITE COUNTRIES, see what odoyos are writing?
