Forget that thing guy. I got a 3rd class and I am earning in USD, almost 3m monthly for 9ja here. Shine your eyes and understand global tech trends and acquire the relevant hot cake skillsets. Even the oyibo man who invented GPA do not really care about all these 2.1, 2.2, etc. It's about your skillsets.

Happy for you

I asked an IT student in my office what business she’ll go into if I gifted her 200k, she said she’ll invest in herself, get shoes, clothes and hair.

I was shocked at her answer and it’s reflective of the thought pattern of most school goers and recent graduates, they expect a magical job is waiting for them out there.

There are no jobs, start a business (no matter how small) and grow it

Who knows if she's a runs girl. Investing in her appearance means attracting high class clients who could pay her more money.

Lol. Thats women for you. You will see a girl that says she is looking for job yet her dressing etc will make you doubt.

Lets ask graduates on Nairaland. Why? Because they are the true eyes of the Nigerian reality when it comes to employment.
The aim of this thread is to vent or explain what you are currently facing as a Nigerian graduate.

Also the purpose of this thread is to let those who are currently undergraduates or serving under NYSC to understand the absolute reality in the Labor market and how challenging survival is.

I have never used or thought of using my certificate

Nice thread. What I have to say is that not everyone would be an entrepreneur. They are people who like structures and routine. I've seen people like that on Twitter. They will flop all time in business. Discover what you think will work for you.

Nothing is free even in Freetown. Anything free is not free. You use money to make money. I have no regrets in acquiring a skill after graduation. Today, I make hundreds of thousands monthly.

In this bad Nigerian economy and COVID-19 era, coupled with technological advancements in cloud tech, telecom (5G), internet (Web 3.0), it is possible to be earning at least USD $2000 from your house (remote work) in Nigeria here for organizations not domiciled in Nigeria. Acquiring the following skillset is a plus - software programming, cloud management on AWS, tech sales skills, business analyst, etc. Forget white collar jobs, bank jobs, government jobs, real estate jobs, insurance jobs, etc. Those ones can only barely sustain you month on month.

Sounds great, do you have time to put me through this please

Some skills are actually free. You get on youtube to watch movies most times with your data, but you can learn and understand almost everything about coding on youtube.
As in everything, anything sef. This is what we call RAW LEARNING live & direct.

Even complete education on the internet! No jokes.

It is just that, it is such a pity that Nigeria youth are not harnessing it properly.

This thread is indeed an eye opener. I'm busy jotting down key points from most of your contributions. Thanks to the OP for coming up with such an educative thread and thanks to the moderator for pushing it to FP.

My main contribution is this

First Have a Personal Relationship With God and avoid religion.

Believe in yourself and take personal development seriously.

Read a lot and acquire knowledge and skills.

Be very prayerful.

Trust in God.

Go and learn handwork that's what everyone is saying. Where will you get the money to learn handwork or trade. Even when you learned that where will do the business when every average of Nigerian is doing. No shops, no good location for some of these businesses. And the worst there's no security. I think government and private individuals should help and venture into industrialization. And solve the issue of insecurity if not..........

That's my major problem now
I have learned the skills, no good location

Happy Sunday great one.

Writing is a passion and a gift which I have honed in the space of decades! So, I do it effortlessly and now profitably.

You don't have to do writing as a freelancer. There are many other profitable things you can do depending on your abilities and career direction.

Yes, you can get the gigs and contract them out, but how sure are you the person given the contract will deliver?!! You are better off doing freelance career in something you love.
Hi Angelfrost. I'm a freelance writer as well, but I'm not earning as much as I would like.

I've been doing it for a while now and I've gotten pretty good at it. I also read regularly. Any advice on how I can upgrade myself?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)!

Try and do courses, get certifications on this. The knowledge will also make your writing more distinctive.

You see, jobs involving writing for blogs and social media pages prefer writers with SEO skills or training! They believe it will make their projects rank high.

In addition, also take courses on creative writing! You will pick new tricks.

To all the undergraduate and those serving the country right now, you need to do the following if you really want to make it in this country. I wish someone has told about it before I was still an undergraduate.

1. Graduating with first class does not guarantee you success. However, you need good grade to secure a high paying job.

2. Start planning for your future right now. Whatever business you wish to venture, start learning about it from someone that has succeeded in the business line.

3. Passion that does not guarantee a high income is a capital NO. You might not understand this right now until you marry and start having kids. Everything will become clearer to you.

4. Having a single source of income is very bad. Just imagine, what will happen if you loose your job?

5. It is easier to save money for your project when you are still under your parents' roof. My dear friend, don't get carried away by worldly things. When you make it, you will enjoy everything about life as you grow older.

6. There is no shame in learning from an artisan that is not as educated as you. Your primary aim is to learn and use your head as an educated fellow to brand yourself.

7. Keep the advice and meditate over it.

I wish you success in your endeavours.
Cheers to a bright future
I like your contribution.

why can't you advice someone to go into lecturing, bro kindly shed light, I want to learn.
