Keyword is parked in a confined place, hence the gas from the exhaust pipe can't escape, at a while it will find a way into the car whether ac is on or off, whether window is up or down. Most of the times we sleep in the car with the ac on while in work location in a remote area. In this case, the car was outside, hence, you theory of carbomonoxide doesn't apply. This could be a murder. Police should investigate instead of arrive at a conclusion.
