Things have changed now, ABUTHSON and a lot of other SON can now register 100 candidates for council. You can only write the council exam when you get indexed and when you pass you get licensed. see we are presently 154 in my class and bar demotion or withdrawal we will all write the council exam next year.
Chinny024:

Those number that you see writing council have been indexed before then..May be backlogged students...Those that passed resit may be in second yr can have the chance of writing council again with a new set..
Even in the uni,50 students are indexed per yr to curtail the number of nurses graduating per yr and unemployment..

Ask well....You can be up to 200 to sit for council but 50 must be indexed per yr per school..It's a rule.

So says the ignorant man. Stop being lazy. Going forward, before you comment on any thing, just google. Displaying your ignorance is not the same thing as having something to say.

Google Nurses salary in the UK and compare that to the values I stated earlier. As I said, it may be that £35k is your definition of profitable. That is your problem. But please do not hide under anonymity and write rubbish. Moreover, I live and work in the country I used as an example.
Start thinking and stop being mentally lazy. Also pay attention to your verbs, pronouns and tenses, when you write.

Nurses earn more than Doctors in your village with no light and roads. Mtchew!

Don't call him a liar. Just state that you have a different view. He is not lying, just as you are not lying. It is your individual views and you both have a right to your views. We should each be careful about what we say to others.

Which Uni are you starting the accelerated nursing program?
Re: Biochemistry Graduate Under Pressure To Study Nursing; Please Advise by Aderin0la: 1:33am On May 20, 2022
1. The accelerated nursing route in the UK is the MSc Nursing (Preregistration) route. It takes 2 years.

2. There’s are no FULL scholarships that I am aware of, unless external scholarship which I have no info about. However most schools in UK give international students discount for the first year, and that goes as high as £5000.

3. No. Especially for the fact that it’s a 2 year program and not 1 year.

4. I’ve heard of such, you can check google for some companies that offer that. However note that you cannot get the regular student loans from the UK government, as an international student from Nigeria.

5. Public health is a scam here if you’re a foreigner. Everybody I know here who studied masters in public health (even worse for those who gained the qualification online or abroad) are on another program right now, as they’ve not been able to get jobs, talk more of one that would sponsor your visa.

Moneyyman:
Hi. How do you do?

Could you please answer these questions about the bolded?

1. How long does the accelerated nursing program take?

2. Honestly, have you heard of or seen scholarships for such programs?

3. Is it possible for international students hoping to work and study? I.E. pay my way through nursing school with aside job?

4. Can international students get study loans to pay back after study and getting a job?

5. With an M.Sc. in public health, what jobs do you think I can apply for if I want to migrate to the UK?

Thanks for your time.

Re: Biochemistry Graduate Under Pressure To Study Nursing; Please Advise by Aderin0la: 1:44am On May 20, 2022
If it’s HCA jobs you want you can apply yourself online. However if she’s able to find you one and the hospital/care home/company is willing to sponsor your visa, get there first then you can sort yourself out afterwards. Nobody would just wake up and sack you for no reason here in the Uk, unless it was an illegal or back route employment.

Unless your friend is passionate about science or research, I’ll advise she takes the advice of that person and go to nursing school if she plans to relocate here, although that’s still dependent on whether she has passion for healthcare. If she’s rich enough and doesn’t want to study in Nigeria, she can build up healthcare experience and apply to accelerated Masters in Nursing programs (Pre-registration) in the UK. It’s 2 years instead and she can register with NMC as a UK RN after graduation.

When you talk about maybe there being another alternative with her biochemistry degree, I did biosciences as well and a bioscience masters here. I was able to get 2 job offers, one as a lab person in the NHS and another as a research assistant. I took the research assistant post cuz it’s at the No1 Uni here in the UK (UniofCam). However I’ve found research / being confined to a lab to be boring, and tbh most people going down that route would have to spend longer years getting a PhD, else you’ll not be able to get a higher up position. However Nursing seems more interesting to me, reason why I’m starting an accelerated nursing program in 3months. Most Nigerians like me too studied Microbiology / Biochemistry / Cell Biology / Molecular Biology and the likes as a first degree because we didn’t meet the cut off for medicine or nursing or dentistry or the other medical courses. So if that’s the case for your friend, she should grab this opportunity for a career in healthcare. It’s totally worth it (IMO).

Interesting.
Following your advice here I googled about this pre-registration nursing and concluded that it's a course worth going for.
Pls is transcript among the requirements for this course?
I noticed that 'A' levels is needed in at least 2 courses, is this mandatory?
A degree completed in the last 5 years in health or science background with proof is also requested, is it the same as urs?
If the later is mandatory that will be my only obstacle as I graduated over a decade ago.

Sis, are you sure about this no 3 cos the least tuition fees I saw for the course was £14,900 annually and it's a 2 year program. If one cannot work and study how can one pay through bikonu?

@ no 5, no wonder one of my lecturers discouraged me from studying it instead he advised me to go into clinical medicine(Nursing or health and Social Care), if I want to switch. He even said that Social work is better than Public Health.

She already has a science degree, so it’ll be better for her if she can afford it to go for a masters in nursing. The two years pathway. She doesn’t need any prior knowledge, just some experience as a career and she’s good to go. Honestly, nursing is a very good option. Whether she stays in Nigeria or not to study it, I would always encourage people to do it. It is worth it.

@naughtybrainiac

NaughtyBrainiac:
Hello All,

A friend studied Biochemistry in one of Nigeria's Federal Universities, she has completed NYSC but she does not have a job yet.

Her brother who currently resides in the UK wants her to enrol in a school of Nursing in Nigeria and she is not happy with what her brother wants.

I asked her if her brother's reason is because Nursing is profitable in the UK and she said YES, that's his reason. The goal is that she'd eventually relocate to the the UK.

My concerns are:

1. Why study a course like Biochemistry and go back to a school of Nursing? Aren't there better alternatives?
2. Most of the people I know that attended school of Nursing always go back to the Univeristy for BSc. Nursing.
3. School of Nursing in Nigeria will take her about 3 years and I am sure she will still need to write some exams before she will be able to work as a Registered Nurse in the UK.

Are there possibilities of moving to the UK to study that version of Nigerian School of Nursing? If yes, how expensive is it?

On the other hand, if she's able to go to the UK for her masters, masters in what course can she apply for (please bear in my that she is a Biochemistry graduate) that would give her chances of securing a good job in the UK ( At least, a kind of job that would still make her earn something close to what Nurses earn)?

Please advise. Thank you

Is this biochemistry a tradition? Sooo many graduates.... biochemistry .... jobless ... for yearsss.... and many more on the production line. She has her Bio degree today... where is she going to work?... locally?.... where I it recognized internationally?... for jobs? ... any testimonies? Nursing... jobs available locally..... recruited internationally... even for permanent residency in the UK. One can travel basically anywhere and gain employment. Her brother knows what he is saying. I know what I'm saying.

From someone very close .... RN .... recruited and relocated few days ago... job and housing provided ... on path to permanent residence.... the brain drain continues... not good for the country as a whole... but each has to face reality and make decisions best for his family.
