Trust me, most who go back to Nigeria complaining didn’t move back by choice.
You and Justwise present strong points and I advise anyone to be suspicious of people who complain about the developed countries they moved to.
If you visit any Nigerians here in the US (my paternal side included) you hear them complaining to family in Naija about bills and how hard things are then the moment they disconnect the call, they jump right back to loving and enjoying their new life.
The majority of people who complain aren’t legal and don’t have papers, are lazy, don’t want family back in Naija to ask for help migrating, or ask for money.

Real question: why do these monikers act like bills and taxes are curses and everyone abroad works around the clock, living a hard life of struggle? A nice, comfortable lifestyle costs and we enjoy the amenities funded with our taxes. Savings and investments are priorities to me but what good does having large amounts of money saved serve in an unsanitary, uncomfortable, and dangerous environment where one encounter can wipe savings dry? Serves no good at all.
But bro those complaining in America about the bills and rent aren’t lying , some people have it rough here living paycheck to paycheck with no savings , Op just know that abroad is lonely .. America na to just work and pay bills , no life just work work work .. the good thing is that you get to enjoy the basic amenities of life , things we call luxury in Nigeria are basic things .. I will advise you to keep your job in Nigeria ,650k a month is not bad

You are CORRECT.
I prefer having a far better longer life filled with joy alongside my kids than having enormous wealth piled in my account in a community sitting on a keg of Gunpowder with my kids being accompanied everywhere by security operatives, to purchase things from the market, churches & schools.
With widespread darkness, endemic wickedness, Anger, Frustration and daily burials to attend.
There can be a Rich life without peace of mind!
So, where's the fun in this context?

Again, NIGERIANS complain about BILLS because this is something they were never used to. Most Nigerians are debtors.
Some intentionally owe even when they have got the money to pay. It's in our Genes.
So, when these LOTS travel to a saner clime, they start complaining & having issues paying for what they have consumed.

Rarely do you see whites earning same salaries complaining about Bills. They grew up as creditors, while most Nigerians grew up as debtors.

Wotoporiously cool speaking
I would not advice you to stay or move but I would rather let you know this,

People leave their country and go overseas for various and different reasons and I believe you must have reasons for wanting to leave, if not please I would advice you find one.

For someone that has a job and family a lot should come into play before you make a move of such magnitude.

Try to consider your options and make sure you have a good reason and purpose for moving if eventually you make up your mind to move.

See make I tell you most people wey you dey see wey dey go overseas go dey loseguard na because say them move without knowing what they're going there for, most of them na make I just go after all people wey dey go nkor, Op I don travel well well o and I don see things and things.

Speaking from experience most of the time wey I don travel I dey carry all my plans for head, I dey even put Bleep ups as plan for head and 90% of the time it works for me.

But we are two different people we might not have the same luck, what works for you might not work for me but if you choose to leave your job and Japa with your family which is a good thing considering the fact that you'll be leaving this shithole to a much saner environment which am not trying to discourage you, make sure say you set your compass well before you tuama and if you choose to stay too nothing still spoil.

North is killing Christians for what they stupidly call blasphemy

Killings of Northerners is on the rise in the East

Buhari is getting clueless by the day

This country is tilting towards anarchy.

For me, japa remains the way out. Your 600k monthly means nothing under Buhari and his men. He who has ears, let him hear word.

HOW TO FIND A SCHOLARSHIP QUICKLY

The biggest benefit of scholarships in the world is that it helps students focus on their actual goals. Financial constraints can have a toll on the student's ability to learn and perform. The lack of financial assistance prevents students from getting access to adequate educational infrastructure. Also, it affects students mentally as they have to bear the pressure of being unable to work for their education and career goals. Scholarship programmes reduce the financial burden of the students and their parents. Eventually. It leads to less tension and provides ample time to focus on career goals.

In my opinion, the reason why most People abroad don't come back is because they know if they do , they will be seen as failure .. some of them can't handle the shame and disgrace.

Lets take those visiting village as an example , Once you travel back to your Village with just loaf of bread and your bag , You will be seeing as failure. how much more those that traveled overseas?.

Dear OP @charles009

I find your thinking interesting, cos you seem to have a good job and yet you tend to want better. That’s what we’re meant to do in life.

If we were built to be in one spot for life we wouldn’t have our feet.

Truth be told so many stories of people who go and come back with nothing, some are fishy as they wouldn’t narrate if they were lazy or not, or perhaps they were involved in something fishy on another man’s territory.

I suggest you travel and visit these countries you might have in mind to acclimatize yourself with what’s what and what’s not.

I know people who have little or no skills earning $2-$3K every month after tax and about 600$-800$ after bills every month overseas without their family though.

If you can sharpen your skill sets when you relocate with some trainings, you should fare better.

You have a family so the story might not be the same, but you also have a helping hand with your wife by you, you can pull more weights and have less pressure.

Also, on a not so bright note. You have a good job here but is it secure?

is your safety and that of your family guaranteed?

Are their future guaranteed too?

Will you wake up tomorrow to another unimaginable inflation?

If you fall ill will you be taken care of first and bills sorted later or we have to source for the money before the doctors will even listen to you.

So so many questions I should ask, but you’re a man and I think you should be the one to question your action(s) as to how you can secure the future of your clan.

Imagine if Giannis Adetokumbo’s Father had him in Nigeria. grin

People may show you videos of how people are complaining, let this !d!its complaining come back home from where they are and allow fresh hands go experience the heavy taxing, but I’m sure they won’t.

Peace!!!

If your friend really works for Mobil in Canada then the tough life he tells you about must be due to the weather otherwise, he is telling lies.
I often laugh because those in the diaspora never start sharing ‘truth and experiences’ until things go sour for them or they feel threatened by too many Nigerians wishing to move abroad and have a comfortable lifestyle like theirs.

Yes I agree with you and if you read further down the thread, you'd notice this.

I just dislike it when people treat the japa movement like a one size fits all situation when it all depends on individual profiles and circumstances.

In his case, he should just stay back.

Well, @poster, my situation isn't so much different from urs. I have 3 kids, I was a senior officer at a federal parastatal in Abuja, my wife was building her career at a federal ministry, plus we had a pure water factory too. Meaning we were a bit comfortable. However, I made the move last September to come to the UK for my PhD. I am only able to work part-time and my wife works just about 3 times a week cos of child care. Our rent is 650 pm, gas and electricity about 120, water is on twice a year payment plan and its about 360 pa, home broadband about 30 pm, council tax is around 120 but we currently have a discount...feeding and entertainment had never been more than 800 pm. Kids are doing very well in school and we save way more than our income back home in nigeria. I will advise you from personal experience to reconsider you decision not to make the move. You know your situation and you know what suits you most. My motivation for coming here was never money, but a good and secure life for my kids. Think about it and ďo what you feel is best for you. I personally do not regret making the move.

With all the info you've given, then it's best you remain in Nigeria, because it'd take a number of years to get that big boy lifestyle you're enjoying in Nigeria abroad. If you're going with 4kids, the cost of child care is going to be significantly higher that whatever it is you're paying in Nigeria at present.
Yes, though the student route is easiest, not all translate to permanent residency after school, so that level of uncertainty is there. You must open your mind to the possibility of packing sh*t, mopping floors, and doing other manual labour, you wouldn't have a choice anyways, esp with 4kids, moreso, with your limited number of work hours as a student, things will be initially rough, and madam will need to hustle too to balance the equation.
If you're ready to bend and endure the temporary pains though, there may be light at the end of the tunnel.
PS: Before they deceive you that they're earning 2Million in a month, ask them what their tax, rent and insurance etc is first.

After tax you could still earn that. The big question like you pointed out how much is the rent?

If you have mortgage even if you pay 800k naira a month towards it then it your money nothing really lost.

Unlike me wey no get mortgage but my rent for two bedroom is 900 euros plus 250 euros for electricity since wey Russia and started their madness then come add water and Internet ontop.

Na company dey pay for tfee but after every expense I still then get a little over a million naira monthly unless na the month wey village people line up.

In my opinion if the op wants to move he should look at it from the angle of his children. How will this move favor them 15 years from today are they going to be better off or in your current situation thinking of how to escape abroad like their father planned 15 years ago but couldn't see it through?

A man with family earning 600k as a steady income in Nigeria is a rich man if he manages and invests wisely.
600k is 7.2m annually.

That’s not rich, that’s middle class even for a single person, talk less or a man with 4 kids common.

You will likely not hear what I am about t say elsewhere. But know this, things are about to get so difficult and severe in Europe and America. Reason? Because of this war and they sanctions imposed in themselves and think how much it would be for foreigners?

If I'm to advise you, this isn't the time yet. 600k here is huge and if you are smart enough, you can get a done in securing serious investment.
