Let her come back if she doesn’t like what’s going on in USA.
Thirded.

More reason I don't buy their idea that life is hard over there, if it's hard, it's also harder here.

I think her original naivete is forgivable. She was a boisterous 14-year-old who only knew America from the shows she saw on TV. She wanted to live like Angelina Jolie because Hollywood was her only image of America. She probably is not alone. There are also tons of kids today in Nigeria who still have misshapen images of America; kids who think the streets of this wonderful country is tiled with gold. Kids be kids. One could legitimately forgive this error in thinking coming from a naive teenager. But if she thought she would have had it any better in Nigeria, she certainly isn't looking at all sides of the coin. Her parents' business in Nigeria was obviously failing and they would have had a lot more poverty to contend with while navigating that. She needs to outgrow her naivete.

I saw some hope at the end of her interview and that's inspiring. She needs to cease being that naïve teenager who took it upon herself to create an imaginary America from TV images. No country gives you opportunities on a platter, except maybe the United Arab Emirates or any other oil-rich gulf country. If you are black and from Nigeria, you probably have more work to do to convince the world that you can make something of yourself. That's true both in Nigeria and in America. Unlike her however, there are millions of other children who do not have an American opportunity and who will never make something for themselves. That much is certain. Unlike them, she has a rare opportunity, to go to some of the best colleges in the world, to achieve a dream based squarely on merit like, for example, the first black female supreme court justice, Ketanji Jackson. She could either fight for that in a country where it is possible or she could continue complaining or, alternatively, return to Nigeria and have to deal with a mediocre and intensely corrupt society where her dreams may remain ever unachievable. It's her choice.

Please just shut up. Why don't you compare US with Nigeria when it comes to their positive things. Can you compare them to this shithole you call Nigeria?

People especially Nigerians need to realize that it’s not all beds and roses abroad. There are also ghettos, homeless people, beggars on the streets e.t.c… And stop raising expectations so high! Keep a low profile and hustle legit like you would in Nigeria, and pray that the heavens bless your hustle..

I tire o! If you don't like Americanism then move back to wherever you come from. Simple! People from Togo, Benin Republic, Niger Republic, Burkina Faso, Ghana etc are living in Nigeria and putting up with our piles of shit and nobody hears them. They don't like our shit they move back to their home. America is America, the good, the bad, and the ugly. It's your choice!

Interesting...
The US is a sick country...with lunatics everywhere u go...
The white ones suffer from a Myraid of mental issues...both real and imagined..just call a white boy..."dull" or something like that nd d next thing..he goes shooting innocent kids..
The black ones re worse off..those ones don't ever wanna get useful in life..all they think about is..drugs..gangs..sex and more sex... littering d whole place with babies..
The so called "American dream"..is just a pathetic culture of consumerism and an endless pursuit of unrealistic goals(Rat Race)... Americans work crazy hours just to afford things they don't really need...which in turn leads to drug abuse.. depression nd suicide...
A typical working class American takes up huge mortgages(loans) to buy up costly homes..cars.. stuff like that..then works crazy hours at different jobs with little sleep every day to pay up those huge mortgages...the lack of sleep and d constant threat of legal prosecution ND ultimately loosing dt mortgaged house/car/stuff leads him/her into depression..then into drug abuse..then into a
bitter divorce...then ultimately SUICIDE... A "developed"country that records more than 123 suicide deaths per day..and u tell me that country is not sick?

She still carries the entitlement mentality to America. Every country has its good and bad side. The same way you cant complain of poor environment in Ajegunle. Life in Ikoyi is never the same thing in Ajegunle. She is still going to school as planned while her peers here are either battling jamb or ASUU. You are complaining of a busy counselor in the US while she had none in Nigeria. Your story would have really worth it if only you could show us that your parents came back to Nigeria because of what you just wrote. She would do everything possible to remain in that country, while discouraging others to come. Anuofia

Dear ishilove
Of all the topics you could have came up with, you chooses this one that has to do with giving you comfort due to the fact that you think that the united states of America is a place that may be out of your reach for life or atleast for a very long time until a miracle happens to you.
Indeed misery loves company.

America is more than Chicago, It's there are more than 46 states in America and you can't choose one to judge all.
So stop this your negative approach about America and when you begin to look at the Many opportunities abound then maybe a God giving opportunity will be giving to you.

And by the way, America is a country that gives you your dream life if you have a talent.
You can't be talentless and you expect America to turn you to dangote.
Nonsense!!!!

When u wanna relocate to America, do proper research about the specific state and even city that is sane enough for the dream u sought

A Nigerian lady, Ajibola Elisabeth Junaid from Oyo State narrates how she migrated with her family members to the United States in search of greener pastures. Her family settled in Chicago, as they were all asylum seekers. It did not take long for her to discover that hardly does the American dream exist for minorities or people of colour.

She described America as a reality of racism, poverty, food insecurity and gun violence.

She is a senior student at Wendell Phillips Academy High School.

Her narration below:

Even with all the violence, highly successful immigrants have lived in and some still live in badass Southside and Westside of core Chicago. It's difficult to understand some things when you are still new then you discover what you are in for. That's the story of some immigrants, but still not a deterrent for many. So many inspirational stories of immigrant success have come out of South Chicago.

However, I agree that immigrants should do their research and avoid that part of the USA if they can!
