Dear Ma,
Read this: https://proshare.co/articles/femi-otedola-sells-down-2-of-his-equity-stake-in-fbnh-to-5.57-from-7.57?menu=Market&classification=Read&category=Stock%20%26%20Analyst%20Updates
Prof Prof! E Ku three days. grin
Those analysts do guess too......they don't have all the facts.
Note the clause where they said for reasons best known to him too.
Hope you know the qty sold wasn't sold to retailers......and wasn't sold on the floor, it was cross deals to another moneybag.
Don't trust those guys too much sir. They always have agenda with selfish interest. grin
Besides, even if it's 5.57%, Otedolà still remains the single largest shareholder.

There is a lot of 'might' in this statement. As usual, nobody knows what will happen as Mr/Mrs/Miss Market has a mind of its own. My posts are simply based on the chart. What Femi decides to do or not do is entirely up to him. His intentions or lack thereof cannot be hidden from the charts that is why the reason for the sell-off is not important.

It has been said overly that there is only one reason why people buy stocks, they expect it to go up (not always the case) even insiders get it wrong BUT there are several reasons why people sell (school fees, divorce, marriage, midlife crisis, infact anything).

Riddle me this though, do you think these huge sellers don't know that dividend qualification is next week?
Maybe they are not dividend investors(as a strategy) but simply traders who are happy with making their money from the market and getting ready to re-enter the market at a later date.

It could be a whole range of factors. My callout was just a caution that cheaper prices might be available not a call to sell.

Trust but verify.

The thinking that @ Sir Femi O. may have sold to quickly take up some profit is incorrect. (referencing the part in bold)
The crossdeal to at Femi O. was majorly done @ N16/share.
The sale however was strategically executed, so he retains the position of the largest single investor in FBNH given his remaining holding of approx 5.5% (previous: near 7.6%)

While why he decided to exit part of what only a few months ago was a heated chase to increase his holding could be any ones guess, there's a high plausibility that it may not be unconnected to a recent quest to expand his investment/footprint in the power sector.

However, I can say that if the sale was not a related-party transaction, then whatever led him to sacrifice his 2.3% stake at a loss (at least based on tangible estimate) must be a worthy pursuit and urgent too.

That said, your assertion on the coys (FBNH) technicals isn't unfeasible.
...there's indeed a probability that the price could drop to N9.1
Though I think we might see a quick bounce from there. (it will be fast, especially if the coys average MtD vol is maintained)
So it might be best for a prospective investor to have their entry trade-setup at staggered prices from N9.5 down... so one does not miss out on the opportunity when it does come.

Disclosure: Currently do not hold FBNH accross the various portfolios I manage.
...while FBNH is ok, I believe there are better coys including but limited to the banking sector.

It is well.

Why is Otedola selling First Bank shares?

The N5.76 billion fund he took out comes at a period the Federal Government is planning on selling five National Integrated Power Plants (NIPPs).

His sell off in First Bank is similar to his exit in Forte Oil, where he sold his majority shares to acquire the majority stake in Geregu Power Plc in 2019, through his investment vehicle, Amperion Power Distribution Company Limited.

According to a source with inside knowledge, Otedola might be eyeing an expansion in the power industry, having sold the shares amid FG’s plan to find buyers in the next six months for its five National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP); Omotosho Generation Company, Olorunsogo Generation Company Limited, Benin Generation Company Limited, Geregu Generation Company Limited, and Calabar Generation Company Limited.

It was also gathered that he had shown interest in one of the power plants, and may have been pre-qualified for its purchase.

Otedola had previously invested $94 million in 2013 and $350 million in 2018, before raising his investment level in Geregu Power Plant to about $1 billion. This figures reflect an estimated cost for the purchase of another power plant.

Lol. He's back for some days now.........on the sideline as observer. He'll comment when he's ready I guess. grin

Btw, Oga @onegentleguy, above reason sounds more like it for the sell off by Otedola........
He's wise, retaining his number one position in FBNH despite the urgent sales. He may likely be back again.

FBNH: Will there be responsive buying @10 as previously observed or will the MM allow it get to 9? That is the golden question for the week.

The responsive buying @10 helped to support the price today, buyers will need to show up tomorrow to push prices back up. The hammer on the daily suggest that there may be a welcome reprieve - a good sign for the folks holding the stock. We will know more at the close of trading tomorrow.

These 3 stocks are mainly the ones one heavyweight is selling: GTCO, ZENITH, UBA........
Election is coming, could it be that some politicians are offloading to get liquid for campaign??
Could it be one moneybag eying oil biz or Otedola trying to generate more fund to buy one/or more of the integrated power project that the FG planned to sell??
Guess the same guy/entity was crossing Access, Fbnh and Fidelity before now........
Well, whatever it is, we keep watching Mr. Market....

UCAP:
Someone sold down to 12.40 earlier......and it immediately jumped back to 13/13.05.......
Two 5Ms suspicious on offer table.........why didn't the seller clear available bids?

Lol. Don't mind me, just thinking out loud.... tongue

Company that will soon come to raise capital after the price manipulations
Answer: seller want to sell at higher price. As soon as much bids come at 13, he sells down to 12, then manipulate back to 13 and allow bids to grow
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Mpeace(m): 11:57am On Jun 10, 2022
Transcorp and their yeye bids/offers

Which one is 55million bids vs 53million offers.
In short, transcorp is on full bid and full offer at the same time.

The activity happened once so far.......
UCAP has been holding up @ above 13 for a long time now.....
The 10M unit on offer table looks fake to me, the actual offer is 3M+ .....
Let see who's right and wrong.... grin

Btw, AIRTEL is in a world of its own...... smiley

GTB, the seller is tactically selling @22, your illustration described GTCo the more...

UBA now 7.60!! I'd suspected that 50M single bidder @7.50 or so for a long time....lol. ....been thinking they might find a way to drag the share price down to their junction.

The stock is too liquid, the more they're mopping the more offer is coming up.........but this time around, it seems Tony's hands is in it.......they're moving it gradually......
Maybe they're planning reconstruction ahead too, who knows.

Sometimes, one sector is all an investor really understands...
If you really have an edge in a sector and watch your investments like a hawk, you'll be fine...
But you're right, I wouldn't recommend this for most investors...

Reminds me of the insights I got from reading about MPT, modern portfolio theory. The idea was that an investor can select a bunch of investment vehicles in such a way as to optimize the portfolio for maximum return given a level of risk.

Investopedia says...
"A key component of the MPT theory is diversification. Most investments are either high risk and high return or low risk and low return. Markowitz argued that investors could achieve their best results by choosing an optimal mix of the two based on an assessment of their individual tolerance to risk."

and this...
"Based on statistical measures such as variance and correlation, a single investment's performance is less important than how it impacts the entire portfolio."

And then some math from which a curve is generated that evaluates the efficient frontier.

By d way, holding only stocks has its risk too. During a market crash d correlation between stocks tends to one and prices downwards.
