You're right... Politics is grassroot and indigenous.... Making and pursuing alliances... Amaechi was turbaned prior to elections, he knew how to play even with the North because they have the numbers, same as Tinubu

Osinbajo is the typical ajebo, lekki man, though he reached market people towards election. After elections, he hasn't been there... He was lucky self because he came from Lagos/Ogun axis, same with Tinubu which is controlled by Tinubu and Amosun, before he came on the scene. Amosun then stepped down for Tinubu. So he tried o with 200+ votes.

Politicians need to maintain contact, alliances like Tinubu all the time.

I think we've been led to overestimate the true reach and impact of Osinbajo. No wonder prior to the convention there was this clamour for Buhari to endorse a candidate to fly the APC flag, and Osinbajo was loudly touted to be the president's favourite.

Like many I was led to believe Osinbajo might walk away as APC's candidate I already wrote off any possibility of Amaechi clinching the ticket.

But you can imagine my shock when I saw Tinubu ahed with over 400 votes and guess who came in second, not Yemi or Lawan

AMAECHI!

we have underestimated this man until now.

I want to see a Tinubu/Amaechi combo in 2023.

So for those whose preference was Osinbajo how does it feel knowing he isn't even the 'SECOND CHOICE'.

The highest bidder got more votes.

You think delegate are not strategic in their formation and thinking, not interested in power play in the long game and just taken by whiff of money? The delegates vote according to the dictates of their leaders and what they'll eat. If a leader tells a delegate to vote for a cow or goat, that's what they'll do.

It's not a game of conscience or emotions, but that of loyalty.

A leader in the LGA, would support someone and they person would get elected as a delegate for once in 4 years usefulness.

During the election, delegates have to cash out, cause it's for a short while.

Most Northern Govs came through for Tinubu by instructing delegates in their states to vote for him. Majority of them may not even know Tinubu

I said it a while back that Osinbajo will come 3 or 4th but not second. Prince of Abakaliki was arguing with me. It's common sense, you don't need to be a political genius or insider.
Northerners and even others hate betrayal. Osibanjo lost the little credibility he had left.
Osinbajo actually made the job easier for Tinubu by running against him. Tinubu garnered a lot of sympathy and admiration just because of the betrayal.

A delegate, I read, revealed that Tinubu men offered them 25k dollars, while Osinbajo only offered a paltry 5k dollars.
So, nothing magical about the election.
That's money speaking, and religious sentiments of Northern delegates and Muslim southwest delegates.

Amaechi is a seasoned politician Osinbajo is VP through the grace of Tinubu.
Osinbajo not getting the ticket is solely Buhari's fault, if he had come out very early and clearly made it known he wants Osinbajo to succeed him and if he'd been working on Tinubu for at least 5-6months before that it would have been a swing and Tinubu would have been left bitter but with no choice and given he's known to be very forgiving he'll have gotten over it and worked for Osinbajo to win the elections.

Tinubu did not win because of money politics, Buhari didn't buy a single delegate in 2014 compared to what Atiku spent and he still beat them flawlessly. If you watched Seun Okinbaloye interview with Sen Ado Dogowa on channels last night and the journalist hangout interview with Ganduje some days ago it was clear the governors made up their minds a long time ago together with other powerful people they wanted Tinubu, the aso rock cabal wanted to sneak in Lawan while Buhari would have loved to endorse Osinbajo it was evident he had limited support amongst the power players.
