One of the best things that ever happened to me was turning off my Read Receipt as far back as 7 years ago. By personal principle, I reply messages within 5 minutes after receiving them and when I'm not ready to receive messages or chat, I simply turn off my WhatsApp data connection, which is the sensible thing to do.

Advantage: if I view your status, you won't know unless I comment, and if you view mine, I also won't know unless you comment, which is just perfect!

A lot of people use it to manipulate conversations, especially ladies who'd read your messages from the notification menu or use WhatsApp mod app, but won't reply you for a long time, because they know that you'd see it as unread at your own end. Yeye manipulation.
