Maybe you are not in Nigeria

many doctors struggle for 2 years just to secure a place for housemanship

Some doctors have been unemployed for 5 years.

You guys will just jump out and start vomiting rubbish
No doctor has been unemployed in any country in this world for 5yrs!
Underemployment is not the same as unemployment
Just shut your trashy mouth up , please.

Just like most abroad pple, her brother does not really have her best interest at heart.
His primary goal should be to make arrangements for her to come to UK and study that nursing.
Why waste more years in Naija if u can avoid it?

See this one!
When you travel, you'll understand that his brother has already done a lot for her with that advice alone

of course it is the best advice possible. I did not dispute that.
But better still, let her study that nursing over there. It is better....and she can easily pay her way through school and send some money back home at same time. That is my point.

It is 33k in the North.

Other graduates also gets teaching job that pays between 15-70k while they search for a better job

The country is so bad that nobody is sure of anything.

Even doctors who are gainfully employed are struggling with their poor salary.

Imagine a Prof of Medicine cannot earn up to 700k after income tax and other deduction.
Mind you the Prof might have spent over 25 years in civil service.
Meanwhile, a graduate of CRS with 2.1 can secure a job in the bank and start earning 235k with other allowances and bonuses. Within 5 years, if he/she doesn't get sacked, he/she can become a manager and start earning close to 1 million monthly.

Additionally, a Chemistry/Biochemistry/Microbiology/Chemical Engineering/Food Science and Tech graduate can secure a job in a multinational company and become a manager after training. Immediately, the person is entitled to car grant, housing allowance, production bonus, leave allowance etc. It will shock you to know that, they are already earning more than a Prof of medicine.

There is no automatic ticket to success. If you must succeed, make the best out of every opportunity that comes your way.

I think you're actually one of those who are embittered they couldn't meet up with the admission cut-off score to study medicine

In which North is a doctor being paid 33K
As an NYSC medical officer there as far back as in 2011, i was already being paid 66,000 plus the 18,600 FG allowance(total of 84,600), outside my dealings in the nearby private hospitals

As an Corps member in your yeye profession, were you paid upto that??

Again, i was earning over 500k(outside private practice) while working in an FG hospital before i traveled in 2019, and that was what anyone at my level in the North was getting too.
So, where is this 33k from?
Even if the professor doesn't make more 700k working in a govt hospital, do you know how much he makes from other hospitals he consults in?
How about his private clinic(s)?
Outside the establishment they managed to employ you, do you have any other means of making money as a Biochemist?
If you by chance you're sacked, won't you die of hunger, as your profession doesn't confer any skill on you, which you can practise independently?
You just managed to get job out of the millions of Biochemists roaming joblessly in Nigeria, and instead of thanking your God, you rushed down here to vomit things you don't know much about.

No one is competing with you, man. Just focus on your profession and leave doctors alone.

[quote author=Moneyyman post=112954157]Honestly, it doesn't equate. But I'll encourage you to go for the school of nursing. Difficult, but you'll pull through.

Biosciences in Nigeria are almost useless outside lecturing jobs.

[/Thanks, Moneyyman. I've made a step in that direction already.]

Is School of nursing really difficult?
Re: Biochemistry Graduate Under Pressure To Study Nursing; Please Advise by Babatundeh26: 1:41pm On Jun 18, 2022
Not really, but it's stressful. For most part of the 3years you're either in the ward or class, coupled with lots of things you have to learn within 3years and also balancing all these with your social life. But it's fun and I want to believe rewarding in the end.

Couldn't she move to the UK as a Healthcare Assistant, then do Med School?

If she has money, she may be able to do med school in a cheaper jurisdiction, as well.

Alternatively, she should do nursing which will open her to not just the UK but US/Canada as well.

NaughtyBrainiac:
Hello All,

A friend studied Biochemistry in one of Nigeria's Federal Universities, she has completed NYSC but she does not have a job yet.

Her brother who currently resides in the UK wants her to enrol in a school of Nursing in Nigeria and she is not happy with what her brother wants.

I asked her if her brother's reason is because Nursing is profitable in the UK and she said YES, that's his reason. The goal is that she'd eventually relocate to the the UK.

My concerns are:

1. Why study a course like Biochemistry and go back to a school of Nursing? Aren't there better alternatives?
2. Most of the people I know that attended school of Nursing always go back to the Univeristy for BSc. Nursing.
3. School of Nursing in Nigeria will take her about 3 years and I am sure she will still need to write some exams before she will be able to work as a Registered Nurse in the UK.

Are there possibilities of moving to the UK to study that version of Nigerian School of Nursing? If yes, how expensive is it?

On the other hand, if she's able to go to the UK for her masters, masters in what course can she apply for (please bear in my that she is a Biochemistry graduate) that would give her chances of securing a good job in the UK ( At least, a kind of job that would still make her earn something close to what Nurses earn)?

Please advise. Thank you

She already has a science degree, so it’ll be better for her if she can afford it to go for a masters in nursing. The two years pathway. She doesn’t need any prior knowledge, just some experience as a career and she’s good to go. Honestly, nursing is a very good option. Whether she stays in Nigeria or not to study it, I would always encourage people to do it. It is worth it.

@naughtybrainiac

Bro, I'm in a similar position now, I'm anatomy graduate currently serving, I want to immigrate to d UK, what do I do, u said srh about doing Masters in nursing, can an anatomy person do masters in nursing

Chinny024:

She might not even be enrolled... Don't be surprise she would fail woefully during PTS..Its fail and fail out.If her mind is not there, no one should force her..Nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria needs just 50students per yr from each schools of nursing across the country.
During our time,we had 5 graduates ranging from microbiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Lab scientist, and physiotherapists. They want to port to UK or US through nursing.
Among the five of them, only the Anatomy students made it with us after PTS.
Unfortunately, because of greed for money most school admits close to 300students and bombard them for that 6months...If you fail,na pack and go on top shame..
I never regretted going into nursing from sch of nursing route.. In fact, it should be the basic.. You get the required training, manner, and experience. Patients are safe in our hands. Most times then we teach BSC students practical and theory...No fighting, everyone has portion to clean, roster for sharing food and class cleaning and washing..You know your sit in the class.
If you do nonsense, you serve punishment in the ward by doing nights and going to classes at same time. However, exit route is widely open for stubborn ones.

Although, not all school is competitive.
Goodluck to her...
NB: Nurses earns more than a biochemist five times..
hello pls can I reach you
