They should not be paid for work not done. This will curb their excesses. The hope that they will be paid whether they work or not is why it takes them. nothing to strike not minding the academic progress of the students .

The FG must be kidding, no doubt.

It must be reminded that every kobo of the six months strike must be paid in full or else the showdown continues.

The FG is the cause of the present strike and not ASUU for failing to honour agreements freely entered into by it since 1999.

Just because some past administration like IBB and Obasanjo did it doesn’t make it the norm, ASUU needs to think twice and be realistic.

The country is facing the worst recession in its history and the treasury is almost empty. Even people that have been working are owed salary so how would the govt pay the ones that haven’t worked for 6months

As useless and selfish as the govt is, I do not support this at all.

A time is coming when no one would send ASUU again, either our kids are in private Uni or they learn a trade.

Let ASUU continue to think they can earn without working, it will shock them like Drs during ARD strike
but one Bashir Ahmed is still collecting his salary. See if you believe this government Oyo is your case

If student can be kept idle for 6 months, what is extra year?
ASUU must not be paid for doing nothing.
Payment should start from where academic activities was restarted

So when you resume, you expect the same ASUU to prepare your exams, lectures, and everything you've supposedly lost in the past 6 months abi?

With a "no work, no pay" principle, students who got admitted this year should lose their admissions so that ASUU can start a new academic session by September. There should be no going back to your admission, lectures, exams, supervision, and graduation.

You never ready, you think ASUU is not in this country where someone stole over #86billion, you think ASUU is not in this country where some people are stealing oil which subsidy has been paid and taking it to another country, the other day a vessel was seize by another country.

You think ASUU is not in this country where #18billion was used to clear grass and the rest, you think they are sleeping?

You want them to be realistic when the government have refused to cut down on their own expenses despite the economic situation of the country?
Okay naa, go and force ASUU to call the strike off then.

You were paid in full for job done till the point you went on strike and payment should continue from where you resume.
How does that affects academic sessions already delayed for 6 months?
Examinations were not conducted during strike so why won't you mark the scripts when you resume?

They shld pay them half the salaries....

ND henceforth include it in the lecturers employment contract clause, that if u join the strike anytime within ur teaching years..... ur salaries will be paid half henceforth
That will never work, if they put that in their employment clause, that will triggers another strike from ASSUU.

If they're paid, they should get ready to pay Nigerian students.

They're useless, both FG and ASUU

God bless you for stating the fact...
mathewLonger:
*Government 'No Work, No Pay' and Lecturers' No Pay, No Work in Arrears*

Minister of Education said lecturers would not be paid their 6 months withheld salaries. It is very unfortunate that the Minister does not understand the operations of the ministry he is heading. The implications are far reaching and I will state some of them here:

1. Spilled-over students whose results are yet to get approval from Senate would not be attended to because these are academic works in arrears (2021/2022 session) that government does not want to pay for. So, no graduation.

2. Final year students who have written exams or yet to write will remain on campus because their scripts will not be marked and the outstanding semester exams will not be conducted. These are academic works in arrears (2021/2022) that government does not want to pay for.

3. For other levels (1 to 3 or to 5), each student should be ready for extra one year or semester as the case may be. If exams have been conducted for second semester, then those students have one semester more. But if results of first semester have not been released, then one extra year. This is because no academic works in arrears would be attended to because government does not want to pay to them.

4. As long as final year students are not graduated, no new intakes and the ripple implication is that JAMB will continue to have backlogs of students waiting to be admitted.

4. The summary of this is that all 2021/2022 session academic works in arrears will not be attended to because they are all works in arrears that government want lecturers to do without without being paid for.

So, it is very unreasonable for government to state that lecturers will not be paid withheld salaries. Lecturers job is not like any ministry job. Adamu Adamu need to get that into his skull.

For parents, stakeholders and students, one does not need to explain further the implications of all this. So, it appears that government is winning the battles but not the war.

Sometimes I just sit down and wonder who designed some of these awkward systems. My workers refused to work for me for a long period of time demanding that I increase their wages, I finally obliged to do so even though it wasn’t easy. Now the system demands that I pay them for every single day they didn’t work for me; for every single day they were not being productive for me and for every single embarrassment their not working caused me
Who will now reward the students whose lives and time have been wasted -the FG or the greedy ASUU will give them their own cut of the largesse as apologies for the time stolen from them?
I fault the past administrations who have set a bad precedent by making this tradition look normal. Tomorrow they come up with another unrealistic demand and the cycle continues again since Nigeria is a ‘rich’ country. This will not be sustainable in the long run.

should they really be paid for not working, i really dont get it. If it was a private university and they went on strike and students did not pay school fees how will revenue come to pay them. they may be paid half but not full salary

What will it cause FG to declare vacancy in all FG universities with an opportunity to reform the sector?

There are more (X3) PhD holders in Nigeria doing nothing than all the lecturers currently on government payroll.

This is not medical line that the risk is too high now

What some of you write is funny at times . You want the FG to replace all staff in the Federal Universities nationwide for failure of same FG to fulfill a reached agreement ? Majority thinks ASUU only make up the university forgetting NASU, SSANU, NAAT are involved. His ultimatum is dead on arrival. The 6 months will be paid before strike is called off .

Federal institute of Science and Technology is on strike which PRODA falls into , but they are been paid monthly. My friends working here were surprised when they heard FG-university workers are not paid for been on strike.

Try reading up the labour laws , is not the workers business for FG failure to renege on their responsibilities. No union in the university can function properly without the others .

NB: The money for those salaries are on fixed deposits, you can calculate how much they are getting from it. There’s money in this country if you allow yourself to be fooled by the FG outcry is your problem. They select what to prioritize which Education isn’t one of such.

The main strike just started. More than #80 billion the former AGF stole is where? You think FG university workers ain’t aware of the happenings

So, is the treasury being magically evaporated? Is it not the people in government that are looting it dry? Or what life impacting thing have they done to elevate Nigerians from poverty.
Mind you, politicians are not owed salary nor allowances. They even get increment every time.

So tell me, how would some people continue to accrue the limited resources to themselves alone and threaten others to take nothing (even what rightly belongs to them) all in the name of "treasury becoming empty"?

What you don't know is that unemployed
PhD holders are willing to accept half of the salary ASUU is currently complaining about.
All Nigerian workers are equally groaning over inflation.
If FG should settle ASUU, others too also deserve to go on strike to cripple the whole nation just like ASUU had crippled the student's academic calendar which your friend at proda's strike is not affecting not to talk of Nigerians on the street.

ASUU is a greedy group of people, paying them 6 months salary will not change anything.
If you are a student and your school is on strike just engaged in other things that will add value to your life, because the way it is no hope of resuming this year.
