If ASUU is really sincere they ought to sacrifice something

It is not as simple as it seems.

1) Let FGN pay the outstanding arrears of Earned Academic Allowances for which ASUU members have worked and earned.

2) Members of ASUU who are on study fellowship cannot be said to be on strike. FGN should pay them their salaries.

3) Academic work is not limited to teaching, FGN should pay for research and community service done during the period of the strike.

4) FGN should find means of doing the work that would have been done during the six months strike period which would normally have to be done by ASUU members after resumption in addition to their regular work.
Thanks for these insightful comment.
Are these points part of what the ASUU executives are clamoring for?

When Federal Government came up with the "No work, no pay policy", I knew it was a joke. That 6 months salary owed by the government during the strike will be another issue and must be paid before further negotiations are made.
I agree with you. Federal government has been irresponsible in handling this situation. Why allow the problem degenerate to the stage of strike? And your workers go on strike...and you refuse to pay them?

FG is to blame here

This how it going to be since ASUU wants to be paid for the half a year they did not work , student should sue ASUU for collecting salaries for 6 months and not working.

Since wants to be paid they should also accept the responsibility of being sued
So federal government should not face the consequences of mismanaging tertiary education till the workers went on strike?

ASUU is a problem. They have been doing this since I was a kid, now I'm old, they still do the same and they wont stop unless something is done to break their wings
How about having a responsible federal government than looking to break non existent wings?

What responsible govt? From IBB, to Abacha, Abdulsalami, Obj, Yaradua, GEJ, Buhari, they have forever been going on endless strikes.
Forget it, they are being unreasonable knowing govt will bend or beg.

What exactly do they want?

Before you open your mouthto spew rubbish go and read about labour law .
OboOlora:
Just because some past administration like IBB and Obasanjo did it doesn’t make it the norm, ASUU needs to think twice and be realistic.

The country is facing the worst recession in its history and the treasury is almost empty. Even people that have been working are owed salary so how would the govt pay the ones that haven’t worked for 6months

As useless and selfish as the govt is, I do not support this at all.

A time is coming when no one would send ASUU again, either our kids are in private Uni or they learn a trade.

Let ASUU continue to think they can earn without working, it will shock them like Drs during ARD strike

They must not pay them one kobo!

That way everybody lose, and they will always think twice before declaring an endless strike!

Universities should not depend solely on government. From History, it's not working.
My concern after this strike, hope no other

The bone of contention isn’t the withheld salaries. Government set up a committee to negotiate with ASUU. The committee recommended some stuffs including agreeing to increase the salaries of lecturers and prof to the tune of 1.5m.
When they met on Tuesday, the government brought another paper and only added 60k to Prof salaries to make it #474k. The poorest in Africa.

ASUU rejected it. This is because the Briggs committee had an agreement with ASUU to increase their salaries to an enviable heights. But what government brought on Tuesday was off key, low and poor.

The minister is talking about withheld salaries as diversion. The salary is very poor

Make dem televise the meetings between ASUU and federal government live so that everyone will know who's lying exactly and also know if ASUU are really fighting for the interest of the students or just themselves. Also we'll know if it's the ministry of education that's using Nigerian students lives to play ludo.
