Setting a fine would have been an easy way out and people won't learn. So I guess impounding their vehicle was an afterthought to deal with knuckle heads like you.

But with left, right, up and down wey nigerians look, the same politicians making the rules have bastardized our roads, hoapitals, economy and educational sector, they bastadized the naira to the extent that even they cant spend it again, they bribe and collect bribe in dollars now. Have we called for beheading of them and their offsprings benefitting from their crime?
Every state determines its laws, you are insignificant, Lagos state parliament has passed these laws, issues of criminal politicians is not a Lagos problem, it's the problem of EFCC and police. Every state determines its future, if Lagos not good for you relocate to lawless states.

We have to obey the laws if we want to progress as a nation. What you can't do in London is what you are doing in Nigeria. We all want a sane country but we don't want to be sane.

We know but is that the kind of punishment they give in London. This is wickedness.

Use your brain. UK fine the citizens £1,000 for extreme traffic offence, and you decide to fine Nigerian citizens the same amount when the average Nigerian earning is 10x less than their UK counterpart. 100k fine should be enough for a serious traffic office if Tinubu is not a heartless human being.

Shebi it is 450k these ones bidded for the vehicle that they can't pay.
You people from backwards villages are complaining about laws of Lagos. Why don't you pack your bags and go to your state where you can pass one way as you like.
Go to the UK and pass one way there. It is cheaper. It won't be tolerated in Lagos.

That's why there should be fine or seizure of the car for 6months or a year as punishment and not auctioning, cos na poor man go sufer the matter, big man motor no dey there

Even though it's sad n I felt sorry for him n it's avoidable, but if you or any of your household have been knocked by this one-way violator. U won't be here spewing rubbish.

Nigeria needs iron hand like Tinubu. This country must work by fire by force, everyone must get sense
But he didn't knock anyone. Even in the abroad with the best road safety education, accidents still happen and people die as a result. In fact, Ukraine president just had an accident. Knocking off and killing someone with reckless driving has its own different punishment. That shoulding be added to mere traffic offence. You don't kill a mosquito with a sledge hammer.

So, one should wait till they kill your family members before they confiscate their vehicles?
Sorry, governance doesn't work that way.

To answer your question, there was a time that was tried, it didn't work. They added mental test, it didn't work. People still continued.
Do you know that 3 weeks ago, drivers were passing one way on 3rd Mainland bridge?

We have tried to jail some politicians that loot but it hasn't stopped them from stealing more, do you think a bill would pass if all properties belonging to them and their families are taken and bidded for by the public? If an average person have this proportion of offence to punishment..... The high and mighty makers of rules should too.

All thanks to Tinubu, a very big thanks to him.

This is a man some føolish idiotic nonentities believed and think that Nigerians will vote for so that he can continue with his oppressive rule.

Atleast there should have been a warning given to defaulters by paying a little amount of money , but no, it's total seizing of their cars and auctioning it at ridiculous amount, so that poor people will Continue to suffer endlessly.

He can only be a president of Iragbiji not Nigeria, Incase he needs my vote to be life president of Iragbiji community, I am ready to vote him.

The truth remains that the law makers and enforcers in Lagos state are even the ones breaking those laws with impunity.

The law is only alive when it affects certain persons as against what is obtainable abroad. Let a formal governor, serving senators, highly placed individuals face charges of traffic violations which they are always violators, and see how every other nigerians fall in line. I don't support what he did, but truth be told. He has served 3 months jail term what more could be, if not to show him mercy.

Even in London, the traffic offence is penalised with fine not with Jail term or Auctioning of the offender's vehicle. Traffic offence should be civil not criminal. The law that empowers Lagos state government to this is repressive and inhumane.
Re: Widow, Son Cry, Beg As They Win Bid To Buy Back Their Car For 450,000 by Sonyboom765: 7:52am On Sep 16, 2022
Thank God you are not a law maker in Lagos
Once you are caught driving against traffic right there n then your vehicle is impounded to be auction only a foolsih human being will know this law n still drive against traffic.

If I am a gov 3 month after this law was established I will consider it an affront should anyone dare to flaunt the law and additional punishment of beheading to anyone daring enough.

Impound your car is not a punish as it is a weapon to commit a crime. It's like killing with a gun n you expect the gun returned because you a sentenced to life imprisonment.

yesloaded:
Drivers needs to get sense & avoid breaking traffic rules anyhow

Lagos state government needs to stop this barbaric act of auctioning people's vehicle anyhow

Jail term with option of fine is ok and any offenders jailed suppose to have their vehicle bank

It's crazy to jail a man for 3yrs but still auction his vehicle

My advise to those who lives in Lagos feeding hand to mouth is that they should return to their hometown or relocate to another state, Lagos is not for everyone (this might sound harsh but it's bitter truth). When I see the kind of lives some people lives in lagos, I do tell myself that it's better to be farming in one's village than living a miserable life like this in the city

It would get to the point where people are shot for crossing express(especially where there are no pedestrian bridges or poorly maintained ones} before you understand crime and punishment ratio.

Impounding someone's vehicle on account of traffic violation and auctioning it is criminal. What happens to fines and other sanctions to serve as deterrent?

Isn't this a kind of double jeopardy?

Tried, sentenced and yet vehicle impounded and auctioned! Is that what Lagos traffic law stipulates? If it is, then it's rather too hash and inhuman!

Traffic offence is a crime but I feel the rule is quite harsh if he had to spend 3 years in prison. That's a whole lot.

LASG should come up with a more refined and humane approach.
Upon that people no still hear world. People driving against traffic are heartless as the people auctioning their vehicle.
Lagosians like to rush and that rushness dey kill dem so.

Life...

A man was knockdown by a driver who was driving against traffic. The man spent 4 years on hospital beds & later died with memory loss. I don't pity for people who drive against traffic... But as human I feel for those whose cars are impounded.

Please let us all always obey traffic rules & drive right.

Thanks.

You can leave, if you can't obey it's laws. All over the world vehicles are impounded, it's nothing new. You dumb biafrans are so primitive, always allow sentiments becloud your senses. You fools always talk nonsense all the time, if you commit offence with your vehicle, you can't be shot for that, you can be shot if you are an armed robber, terrorists etc. Maybe in your village they shoot people for traffic offences not in Lagos.

I know a boy that was killed while crossing the road by a driver driving against traffic, imagine it was your son.. So stop being sentimental instead follow the laid down laws and avoid story that touches the heart

The govt on their part should fix the road, most traffic in lag are caused by the bad portion of the roads
