There is a fundamental problem with the Lagos State traffic control that has to be addressed. It is seemingly directed towards revenue generation than traffic safety. There are a lot of one ways without obvious sign posts. I almost fell victim in Unilag axis. Now I simply leave my car at home if I'm going to areas I'm not well familiar with cos Lasma officers would rather push you into a trap than to save you from entering one. |

Corridon:So if you drive against traffic in London, they impound your vehicle and sell it at auction? Agreed, he committed a crime and must pay, but the punishment must fit the crime in a free and just society. This is Lagos State Government using the color of the law and crime to oppress her own people, enriching the already wealthy at the expense of the poor, because I can tell you that the vehicles of the rich and well connected who committed the same crime were either not similarly impounded or has since been released. |

teepain:My post was never about the auctioning of vehicles. Those vehicles are supposed to be impounded. I was talking about the 3 years imprisonment if that was true. You get? |

jaybenugo:This piece of information is a misinformation! You bought a vehicle 2021(last year) you committed an offence by driving against the traffic( which can led to loss of life and properties) 3months after purchasing the car and you were put into jail for 3years which you recently completed? But working with the information we have , there is an established rule which you have broken. There is an outlined punishment for this offence. So what exactly are you pleading for? Is he begging for money to get his car or bringing the auction down to 50k. If we want to progress as a country we should try and separate reality from emotions. Let every offender face full course of the law irrespective of your position. The abroad we all talk about, no one will dare try such a thing, your plate number is connected to the cameras and your biodata, no police will run after you and there is no one to beg. You will get your fine(through post) and depending on the gravity of the offence committed you may go to jail or even lose your driving licence and be banned forever from driving. Let all try to be law abiding citizens and make our country great once again.! |

Emman08:Can we even first start from somewhere? I bet you wont say the law is draconian if you suffer a personal loss due to one way driving. The point of the auction is to shock and spread the news, but you know Nigerians, people will still drive one way. In advanced countries, your vehicles will be completely forfeited, you will never drive again and then you will still go to prison. |

Agboola321:Okay, now I get you. I don't actually believe that part though except there were other crimes. Traffic offences do not carry any jail terms to the best of my knowledge. |

Tochj:Agbero work for NURT which is controlled by local government. I’ve seen it in different states in Nigeria they sell tickets. You give commission for picking passengers in some bustops you pick and carry passenger it’s only in Lagos you refer to them as Agbero. That Aside we’re taking about drivers and police arrest . Which is said it’s optional police can’t arrest you for not committing any offense . |

ArcFresky:I know how dangerous these one way drivers can be. They even claim right of way. But this is way over the top. Unless perhaps the person caused an accident already. However I think hefty fines would have sufficed. Please tell me which of the advanced countries. I want to check something |

A draconian and inhuman law. Meant to keep the poor perpetually impoverished. A traffic offender does 3 whole years of jail time and still gets vehicle impounded and auctioned. It definitely applies only to the poor masses |

Emman08:do you know the reasons developed nations are cordinated? Their are consequences for every law you break. I want to believe they could be worse than Nigerians without consequences. But we need to start from somewhere. You will see that people that drives one-way and potential hit and run scenerios will drastically reduce. |

Cloud007:Agreed. Even in Abuja these one way drivers are everywhere. They even claim right of way. Agreed we need laws to deter this lawlessness, it would be great to see stringent laws apply to all though. But then this is Nigeria and I'm naive thinking it can happen |

Anigreat:Maybe you missed the quote when I drove against traffic in Cele area and the bus was impoundedOnly man people that should never be allowed to drive, drive against traffic. Until we start punishing bad behaviour Nigeria will never make it, now that they have paid the price for their stupidity they will never drive against traffic. |
