We are One country defined within Nigerian boundaries. What's the offense we live within Nigerian boundaries as citizens. Any Law debarring that?

Naira land allows all manners of people like you to comment on issues needing commonsense and intelligence.

You're a waste and embarrassment to informed readers in the platform.

So You mean kanu wasn't right then for trying to pull out the ibo from Nigeria fold.. grin cheesy

We're too linient with traffic rules in this country. If u see wetin Canada do my person early dis year for traffic offence you go cry. After collecting her driver's licence, they took her car to their office and parked it there for 1month. When she went there after the 1month to claim the car, they told her she's going to pay 50 dollars per day for parking space within their premises. By the time they added money for the main offence she had to pay close to 3k dollars. She wrote like a baby. Kikikikikikiki........she was late for work and went to drive on the wrong lane to beat time. This things are taken seriously over there because it can lead to the death of another person. More than half of her salary that month was gone. Lol.......

And that is why they drive recklessly resulting to unnecessary accidents. Whatelse do you expect from country where roads are constructed without markings.

So in london, once you disobey traffic law, no warning for first time offenders or at most issue you cheap ticket to pay. Do they impound and sell off the car for first time offenders? You people mention London like it is impossible to access information on what is happening there.
Corridon:
We have to obey the laws if we want to progress as a nation. What you can't do in London is what you are doing in Nigeria. We all want a sane country but we don't want to be sane.

Nonsense! which one is igbo widow?na only igbo widow car them impounded? This news is combinations of trash I swear
it is trash to you because you're not involved.

3yrs imprisonment not enough punishment plus added loss of child to free the vehicle and return it back to him?

Sometimes,we are teleguided by emotions and ethnic bigotry.

The vehicle ought have been returned to him. Not auctioning it.

I’m not down playing it , we should do our own parts as citizens too. Two wrongs don’t make a right. It cost you nothing to keep your surroundings clean and obey traffic rules . You can make excuses to steal if you’re hungry not breaking traffic rules or littering the floor because you’re broke .

Do you know why Keke and Mini Buses are a nuisance on the road? It's mainly because of extortion. They have to work extra hard to make money to take home. Most in Lagos pay out more than #3000 every day to police, union and touts on the road. Cost of fuel or money to balance the owner of the Keke is not there and not to talk of the money they need to take home to their family.

I like to look at the route cause of issues. Yet, the roads are so bad. So what do you expect from such an individual?

Sadly, no pity! Why drive against traffic when you know the implications? Also, the jail term of 3 years over a car he bought in 2021? I guess he meant to say 3 months

Traffic offence is a crime but I feel the rule is quite harsh if he had to spend 3 years in prison. That's a whole lot.

LASG should come up with a more refined and humane approach.

Honestly, I don't understand why we think the seizure and auctioning of of the vehicles of one-way traffic offenders! People are demanding for leniency for them.

But wait a minute, the people that one-way traffic offenders have killed or wounded didn't have the chance to plead for leniency for their lives.

In saner climes, fines are placed on impounded cars and not just straight auctions. The report didn't state anything like a fine and it was even reported that the driver(owner) was jailed because of the crime. He had no hearing whatsoever before the double tragedy befell him. This doesn't in any way make the society better. You don't pauperize a citizen for such a minor crime. It is disheartening.
If he was taken to whatever court in charge of traffic crimes, he would have been heard and the judge would have hit him with a fine which is reasonable enough to caution him and still keep his hope alive.
There's a reason why Prison Services have been renamed Correctional Services. If you use a disproportionate heavy hand on a man struggling to survive, he may resort to something more dastard which will be costlier for all in the long run.

True. I think breaking rules and making life difficult for those in authority and at the same time playing the victim card is an innate thing for Nigerians.

Thats their law .. Then leave the state ... Na must... Even Saudi jail person for using social media anyhow... Abeg joor
So the law was enacted specifically to force some people out of the State? Well it's not a must . But know this , the ability to make segregative, repressive and parochial laws is not the exclusive preserve of only one state. You may encourage it now because it disfavored your neighbor, but don't cry fowl when it reached your door step.

Selling cars of traffic offenders is condemnable. Why can't they make a fine for various types of traffic offense.

So sad mehn. Y sell vehicle of defaulter? Y not ask for better fine. The man even stayed in prison for 3yrs(doesn't seem true, going by the difference between date of bus purchase and today)
I can sense so many lies in that write up in order to curry sympathy and probably paint the government bad. Why insert his tribe there? If he had killed someone while driving against traffic, would they have written an Igbo driver killed someone in Lagos while driving against traffic? The part of spending 3 yrs in jail from 2021 to 2022, sick daughter, dead daughter all sound like lies.

I disagree With you I’ve someone in the system . If you don’t want to pay it’s optional . These people pay because they break rules whenever they feel like . Those money they’re paying is for them not to be charged to Court whenever they’re caught in the act .
The money they pay is more like friendship establishments.

Hotel, bars and Clubs too settle Government agencies to establish friendship incase something unpleasant happens in the future the case will be treated with kid gloves.

When a driver obeys traffic laws 100 percent nobody will arrest you . Instead on paying 50k to Court they prefer to pay 5k to government Agencies it’s cheaper . Nigerians can’t do without breaking laws we’re used to it . That’s why government Agencies takes advantage of us .
