Passing judgement without listening to the entire story is called jungle justice. Oyibo people that have sense always consider the motive of the crime before passing fair judgement. If the girl did not do anything before she was stabbed, the punishment would be severe. If the girl first killed his friend, the punishment would be lighter.

The point I made is that neither you nor I know the real story. So there's no point making assumptions and then arriving at conclusions based on a single scanty story.

..but then again, just to respond to what you just said. YES, I will resort to self help if the situation and my life depends on it.

So is this particular case one of self defence? Did you read the story at all ? Was his life in danger at that material time ? Answer is no.. it was not a necessary act to preserve his life.. he could've gone to the police to report any crime (if any) by the deceased against him... no justification..
