HiThis a banker dairy .Now washing dead bodies . You call it progress !Hi diary,
I have become lazy to type. Little update about what's happening

For the first time in my life, I touched a dead person. I don't even know how I feel but I think I was a bit scared.

I am currently on a night shift in a hospice, that's end of life people. Had checked up on this man around 1 and he was still breathing and 30 minutes later he was gone.

He needed to be washed, dressed and made presentable. He was warm and felt like he was still sleeping. Just that this time, it looked like a deep sleep. The nurse asked if I was alright doing it. I sha tried by best to hide any of my feelings. Omoh! Things I have seen and experienced in this UK journey.

I just wish I can stop this care assistant job permanently but it seems I will still be stuck

This washing of dead body is an old wives tale.

I have lived in more than 3 western countries. Even when I was at my lowest, working as a laborer I was more fulfilled than when I worked in oil and gas in Nigeria.

These I work in top companies and make a lot of money. The most important aspect of living overseas is that I can go to the gym at 3am and not worry about my safety.

1. Not everyone lives in America
2. As dangerous as you think America is it is safer than Nigeria

3. The homicide rate in Nigeria is 34 compared to 4 in USA

Nigeria is lacking behind in health infrastructure.

The entire country can't boast of a single bone marrow transplant center

If you have cancer or any sort of heart disease, you are pretty much a goner in Nigeria.

If you have a stroke, ambulance is over an hour away or even never.

Get stopped on the highway in Nigeria by kidnappers
Police is not showing up

Pensioners can go years without their monthly payments in Nigeria

The negatives far outweigh any benefits

Regarding health especially mental health, Nigeria with a population of over 200 million people has less than 500 Psychiatrists available to them while the UK with a population of about 69 million people has about 15,000 Psychiatrists and they are still complaining of shortage of staff

To be honest, i wonder why people still ask if its worth it..lol

For me, it was more than worth it. I came to Canada in 2018 as a student, leaving behind my wife and son. Before leaving naija, i worked as a consultant earning about 450k per month. Back then, my future seemed bleak and the fear of not being able to provide for my family daunted me since 2016 until i made the move.

Today - I work in IT. I am waayyyyyyyyyy better in my state of mind, finances, future outlook etc. My family and I are permanent residents of Canada and confident in our future.

My little cent, if you've got the opportunity to leave Nigeria, TAKE IT AND RUN!!! grin Any enjoyment you think you've got in nigeria is nothing compared to what is possible abroad. Im guessing this also depends on the country though grin But naija nor be am!

Before traveling abroad, get a skill. You must be ready to work your ass off for your money. There is no free money on the street or on the tree. Forget about what people tell you. When you finally leave, you will have cause to have a rethink. Don't fall from frying pan into fire. Never you go to any country with visiting visa with the hope of hustling or staying back. If you are selling your property to come abroad as a student and think of making it, that is the joke of the year. Your 20 hours a week job, the salary will only be enough to pay house rent, tax, bus and train ticket and feed. If is work visa, I will tell you to travel but be rest assured that you must work for your money. A bird at hand worth more than 9 in the Bush. Many people abroad are waiting for Peter Obi to win election next year to start relocating back to Nigeria. Use your tongue and count your teeth.

My own view is that people that japa cos Nigeria is unsafe are they relocating with their entire family including extended. Cos going to abroad alone leaving your parents and siblings at home cos Nigeria has security issues is the dumbest thing . So if they kidnap any of your people it won’t still affect you . Or let’s assume you go with your parents and siblings what about that your mom siblings lol . You can’t really say you want to japa cos of security issues . That’s for people earning good money and still want to relocate. Valid for people seeking greener pastures

I've read some comments here and I can only imagine how their thoughts and imaginations are stuck. Ignorance truly is a dangerous weapon that has been unleashed to trap a lot living in Nigeria.

That you don't have good leaders to provide the basic necessities is not my problem. The myopic brain of some makes them feel once they have small 50m Naira in their account they are big men. Convert that to $, some people earn that in 3 to 6 months and that is not their life savings.

You talk trash like "Start a business" or "Become an employer of labour" before we talk to you. *Funny*. That I pay for services alone rendered by a vendor, that alone I'm an employer of labour indirectly. I don't necessarily have bear the burden of the over cost for you to know I am an employer of labour. It's called being *Smart*.

Maybe just maybe if it's not too late, if you change your circle you can understand that the Naira is worth nothing in the skim of things. Hence the reason you politicians are busy looting the Nigerian treasury dry to buy houses in western countries.

"Security issue" isn't the main reason folks relocate. Trust me it is primarily for greener pasture and good life. Even more so, for new families it's to safe guard the future of their kids. Nigeria is such a toxic country to raise children, if you can can't afford the luxury of paying schools fees in the millions. And how many people can afford that?

Our parent didn't find it this hard when we were kids. Trust me, things are harder in Nigeria now and only the wealthy can survive.

why are you so quick to look for a way to insult me than see the reason of the argument ?

And if I stay in a “face me I face you”, what is your business? Am I living my life to please you ? is that the gist of the matter or you can’t comprehend english language?

I live in California and I have seen Latino immigrants who work without work permit or social security live as crowds in small apartments- they don’t want to live in a nice place because it’s very expensive and their goal is to save as much money as they can because they don’t know the day they will be deported so they want to save as much as possible

they send all their money they work to mexico or guatemala… so if they rent a beat up 3 bedroom apartment for like $1,100 a month in a slum area - guess what ? if they are 11 - they can split the rent to be $100 per person per month

so if they are earning low wages like $1,700 a month working undocumented jobs in a construction site, they can afford to save $800-$1000 each every months - and in a year they can save up to $10,000 each - that’s where am talking from

as a Nigerian you can’t live like that - No Nigerian will want to live like that in America - so if you have that kind job of $1,700 as a Nigerian - by the time you pay full rent of $800 as a new immigrant your money is finished - as other bills will eat the rest

that’s my argument before u brought up attacks on me like say na me decree poverty on your life

Guy, if na hungry dey beat u go find food chop no be me be your problem

thank you

guy hungry dey beat me... I laugh

Dude I run my business and i have travelled... My point is simple, it is just stupidity to spend about 10 million only to go for uncertain place.. I also know a lot of folks in Canada and forget this stories you are telling us....

They are finding it a bit hard. You can spin this tales for person that haven't been to Europe or some developed country. Not me

I didn't insult you and I dolt see 11 people living in a flat as decent it is like face me I face you

There is no place like home!

A bird in hand is worth two in the bush!

Most boys in Nigeria are doing better than those who have spent donkey years abroad.

Go to US or Canada or any country that is not yours and see how the citizens hate to even see you hustle with them. Even your South African neighbours despise you.

Going abroad is overhyped. No place like home my friend.

I am a Nigerian based In Canada. I dont think Nigeria is nearing collapse. I just feel people are just tired of putting in the same amount of work and not getting anything in return. My dad is a professor in Nigeria and has been in the university for 35 years. His monthly salary is about 500k naira a month. I am a instructor at a college in Canada, joined the college January this year. I make an equivalent of almost $8k a month after taxes. This is the problem with Nigeria. Once I get my PhD, I will be earning close to $15k a month. And I am 36 years, my dad is almost 70 years. This is the reason for Japa.
This is d difference, with your dad's 500k he can conveniently take care of more bills than you can with ur 15k in the US or Canada

So lately I have seen friends, families, colleagues at work, church members relocating abroad.
These people are "doing well" here in Nigeria.
Many of them resign from their high paying jobs, sells their properties and put up to like 25 - 40 million naira to relocate a family of say 5.
Is it really worth it?
Can't we make a good living here in Nigeria especially people with a good job here?
I need clarifications from those that have gone to enlighten me.

It's worth it.

I understand this perfectly. My hypothesis is that, someone who relocated after spending more than 25 years but less than 30 years in Nigeria would have a hard time settling down there forever. It gets worse for someone who moved after the age of 35, e go hard to assimilate. It becomes severe if there are few blacks in that area/region/country. If you were in the state of Georgia in the US, you would most likely stay back. Weather is also an issue. Someone whose skin has been used to the tropics suddenly residing in a temperate environment would experience emotional issues. However, those who decide to remain have reasons for doing so, such as stability, security, health care etc. It is all about prioritising. Again, if e don tire the person, s/he can always move to seemingly functioning countries and retire.

It really worth it if you want to live a life of sanity. Nigeria is no longer habitable for normal, honest and hardworking individual. Those who claimed you can easily make it and build a house are mostly those who have been benefitting from the corrupt system. Many Nigerians now are into fraud, scamming and all sort of illegal things, so such kind of people don't see any sense in leaving the country. Please if you're below 40 and have the means to leave legally please do now before it will be too late. We that are over 40 now are regretting not taking those decisions then. To live comfortable in Nigeria is a huge task now, no where is safe, security is at lowest ebb now, health care is nothing to write about, standard of education is low, anything investment now is scam. Youth and those below 40 especially graduates in STEM field, my advice for you is to plan your life, so that you won't be entrapped like us who believe so much in this country only to be disappointed. If not for age and cost of leaving and settling in foreign land, I won't be in Nigeria. My children are grown up now

Ah - so you are in Canada? That nonsense country we all know is crap yet keep convincing ourselves is great lol - Canada is an asocial and depressing cesspit where everyone just works to pay bills lol.

There is actually a lot of insecurity in Canada - recently there have been some mass shootings, druggies fill downtowns, etc. Canada is more economically unstable than Nigeria because house prices are too expensive but in Nigeria you can own a house without mortgage fairly quickly - also you will never have significant savings in Canada since the system chops everything.... I agree with you on the weak institutions - Nigerians are shamelessly lazy and with poor work ethic. Nigeria system of education is better - kids are not taught feminism and transgender etc - most estates now provide their own power supply. Nigerian passport is not weak....

Which kind lie be that? The strength of the bold plummeted from 76 in 2010 to 46 within a decade. Is that not a weakness? Compared to the UAE increased from the bottom 30 to the top 20 within the same period.

Ƴes, you got it. Age is a factor to be considered before settling in foreign land. Once one reach 40, it's better to stay in your country, acclimatizing is a huge task for those who have lived most of their life in a place where they were born , grow and educated. But some people can still cope especially for those who have nothing to lose and with no home tie

Why can't you people Just accept the fact that not everyone want to come And live a lonely and boring life abroad Just because of 24hrs light which you pay for with your nose anyways , and McDonald Job of $1500 per month. The money you earn over there doesn't even find you that boost until you convert it to naira in your head just to validate yourself and say ",I'm earning more than a professor in Nigeria". This is a trend I see Among you people.

And you can call me broke because I live in Nigeria. Since you can't even know whether I'm more satisfied and contented with my life or not

1. If your life is in danger in Nigeria, leave.
2. If you want to experience how a foreign country feels and looks in real life for some years, leave.
3. If you found a skill or work that pays better abroad, leave.
4. If you want your children to learn a new language or acquire a new accent from childhood, leave.
5. If you want your unborn child to become a citizen of that country or play football in that country, leave.
6. If you have enough money and don't know what to do with it, leave.
7. If you want to go study there, leave.
8. If you're willing to pay all the taxes you've been evading in Nigeria in exchange for a sad life, but happy environment, leave.
9. If you want your wife to have the power or your children sue you whenever they want, leave.

If none of the above is true, stay in Nigeria and invest here, else, beggars will kill you with financial plea the moment you leave and you'll end up deactivating your social media accounts because of hungry relations and their pestering.
