What gibberish nonsense is this?
I thought I was the only one that got confused while reading the comment.

Excerpt:

...I am simply saying you should not, must not approach NSE thinking you are investing.
...maybe you can look to NASDAQ and buy shares of a viable technology company this is far better than the NSE. However, this too IS NOT AN INVESTMENT!

So which one is an investment?

Pls be careful how you handle your money. Putting money in the NSE and holding the mentality that you are investing is a big mistake. I am not saying you cannot get ROI make money on your 10m I am simply saying you should not, must not approach NSE thinking you are investing.

If you want to put your money in something and go away for ten years, maybe you can look to NASDAQ and buy shares of a viable technology company this is far better than the NSE. However, this too IS NOT AN INVESTMENT!

Best advice in my opinion!
From historical facts, most stocks are currently trading at lower prices compared to their past years prices. Some have even gone into extinction, some are just there, while very few have more than double. So you have be very careful. How? No stock is an automatic permanent friend or enemy. Always be on the look out for everything. Nothing in this world is certain. Take advantage of the uncertainties, if you know what I mean. As much as there is money in stock investment, so also there is loss.
Never ever give up when you make mistake. Be ready to learn. Avoid relying/waiting for handouts from 'experts' .

Yes, Nasdaq is not devoid of same scenario. But I agree with his caveat about the need to be careful ...

Na wa for this kind advice..... Not even split it 50/50 between NSE and Nasdaq?

On Nasdaq, I can easily name 10 well established names that have lost 35-50% in the last 11 months! This is including all dividends paid (I own some of these companies). Meanwhile NSE, I am breakeven when you factor in the dividends paid!

I think he is right. Not everyone can be an nse technocrat like you.
Oga Tolu, does someone have to be a Technocrat to invest? Lol.
@Phlinx outrightly condemned investing as a whole.

Seems some are looking at the worst aspect of loosing money. What about the best part too?

Earlier sited a relative's loss on UBN purchased at much higher price.......but there was another good investment also made in Nestle.
NESTLE was purchased @254 naira. Today, Nestle is trading above N1,000.......over 15 years of collecting dividends....... Whatever is left there is all gain now, and Gain Is giving way for more gains.

Well, let me leave the discussion for the elders who's been on the investment path with divers experiences to comment on..... smiley

You also have a point.
One of the reasons I mentioned ZENITH and/or GTCO too.
These ones may not be aggressive in growth but consistency in payment of Dividend is it for me, especially for the long term duration mentioned. They've been increasing the dividend payout overtime too......cos I did some checks on both not too long ago.

I recently assisted a close relative in downloading, filling and submitting Union Bank form for Mandatory Take-over and I could easily relate to the example you sited.
The UBN shares were purchased at around N29/per share or thereabout.....
Has been there for more than 20yrs, bought at different prices (with one IPO in 1995 or so.......
* How many times did UBN pay Dividends within those years? Doubt if it's up to 5 times......
* Worst part, the buyer offered to buy the share over @ paltry N7 in 2022!!

So investing in some stocks for long term needs serious due dilligence and experts advice before you dabble into it.
Long term is different from short term or Jijo-ing.

One good thing now though, is the digital era, whereby one can easily monitor and track his investments, compared to the old analogue period whereby all activities reside solely with the broker and brokerage firms. No more trading in "darkness", except for those who chose to......or are ignorant.
Union Bank, transcorp and many other securities have a bad track record of returning money to their shareholders.
In fact, they are shareholders unfriendly
Never invest in a company that is not shareholder friendly.
Signs include
Doesn't pay dividends
Heavy dilution every year

A question for everyone on this thread.
What's your opinion on companies soliciting investments from the public where most of the investment funds will be used to refinance debt?
What is the upside for the retail investor who subscribes for this investment in this situation?

I want to believe the person selling GTB earlier is no more selling.
The sell pressure has reduced for a while.

Berger paint @ below 6 is a good bargain. In my opinion d company will fare d way of Vitafoam once they get a couple of things right.

It has had its revenue going up year after year without carrying d bottom line along with it. I hope dey can cut cost of sales and be more efficient. Debt is managed very well.

One problem, it is not liquid.

In as much as you're a respected experienced player in the field, i want to say I'm familiar with your conceited and prejudiced mentality. You might wish to rebrand and respond positively to people's post; even if you don't know them before. The sky is big enough for the birds to fly. Note that this forum is not your empire. I was even joking with someone whom i know is well civilised. Not an ancient regime. Check historical records, i was here before you. And no regrets.

See so much bitterness in you. In my opinion i think this is an over reaction. He asked you a simple question you can give a simple answer to.

Like you said, the sky is big enough for everyone.

The question he asked was to stimulate a discussion not to throw insults.

We are all here to learn and rub minds together, no one knows it all
