Aareona: U already made the first mistake by rushing to Canada without due diligence. Don't make the second mistake by rushing back home without proper research. Nigeria remain the same way u left it 3 years ago if not worse. U really need good money and solid connection to enjoy Nigeria. Make sure u secure at least one before coming back. Develop online skills while in Canada and plan how to work remotely when u return. This is the most financial secured life Nigeria can offer- earning in dollars and spending in naira. U will be king. I will also advise u to get your Canadian passport b4 returning. Nigeria can collapse anytime, u don't want to be stuck in here when it happens. Also Canadian passport offers u ease of traveling and better healthcare accessibility at your old age. In the meantime, join a Nigerian church and make friends. I think your biggest problem is being single, if u can locate a Nigerian church close to any university your problem will solved. There are lots of young Nigerian ladies with fresh blood willing to mingle with an established bachelor, find them. The truth remain best time to relocate is before 25 yrs. Anything above that, u will struggle to adapt to your new environment. White people live a very private and independent lives and don't open up easily to strangers. What they call fun will be seen as boring to us Africans and vice versa. If u feel life in Canada isn't for u, make a plan to come back home. Lots of Indians do it, it's no big deal. But don't rush things, u did well to save 20k dollars but trust me u will exhaust that money within a year of returning back home if u have no back up plan. Overall, pls do everything to come out of that loneliness. Loneliness leads to depression and depression is real. Exercise, make friends with other foreigners in your locality, they have the same challenge and u will be surprised how much u guys will get along if u really open up. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Agbegbaorogboye: Read how st Nicholas mismanaged a popular top radio show host Chaz B. His death was a shock to me and most Nigerians who watched his show. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bellanaija.com/2015/10/how-chaz-b-died-heartbreaking-moments-revealed-as-wife-files-petition-against-hospital/amp/ I don't know about Buhari's health history but that guy would have been RIP if he didn't gone for that 6 months medical tourism during his first term. He was almost becoming a walking corpse before they flew him to UK. Most doctors in Nigerian private hospital are same doctors in govt hospitals so I don't expect them to treat patient any differently. What u pay for his good customer service not really standard medical care. If they don't know it in govt hosp, they won't know it in private hosp. |

SIRTee15: Yes we were in the ER for about 3 hours before he was seen and that was even fast by Canadian standards as my son was even seen before the kids we even met at the ER. People do wait for more than 12 hours to see doctors at the ER. In my case, the triage nurse could see that my son needed urgent attention and the nurse was very concerned and bleeped the doctors a few times that they needed to attend to my son urgently. I also told the nurse that I'm a medical doctor myself and I think that helped as well and yes he had severe acute asthma as I measured his SPO2 at home before taking him to the hospital and it was 85%, he couldn't speak in complete sentences, was having intercostal and subcostal recessions, tachypneic (RR was 60), tachycardic as well. It's not about being black or white as my son was even seen before the white kids that we met there but it's just due to the ridiculous medical system there. The average wait time to see a specialist following referral from a family doctor or for surgery for patients with all forms of cancer is between 8 months-2 years. Some patients do die before the surgery or the cancer even becomes inoperable before the surgery due to metastasis. They need doctors but they made it extremely difficult for foreign trained doctors to get jobs there. Most Nigerians who moved there are well educated but they mostly do menial jobs. Canada is a very welcoming country but the most of the best brains and talents from other countries do shittty jobs there which is sad. Next time, do your research properly before opening your mouth or before typing garbage. Typical Nigerian attitude! I don't have time for back and forth with you and you can believe whatever you like though but this happened at Alberta Children's hospital and yes I am a medical doctor at one of the best hospitals in Houston, USA for your info. 4 Likes |

sukkot:Making money is tough everywhere be it Nigeria, Canada, USA. But all depends on the individual. If I have $2 million to retire you wont see me near banana island. I'll retire in cape town where I can buy a house around camps bay for $500k . Banana island is nothing to right home about infrastructure wise. The charm/satisfaction most people with money in Nigeria have is the fact that they can afford what most people they grew up with cannot afford. That's about it. That is why Femi Otedola spends most of his time in europe while atiku spends most of his time in dubai. Nigeria cannot give them the kind of 5 star lifestyle their money can give them in other places 1 Like |

SIRTee15:Reading that story, one can't help but feel for the woman who watched her husband die in the hands of a clearly inexperienced doctor. However, like I said to you, the comatose state of our hospitals is the handiwork of our elites. See a comment from the link: All the private hospitals are doing it. The first time I took my baby to a Pediatric hospital in lekki I was impressed with the experienced pediatrician I saw there. That was the first and last time I saw the lady there. Afterward each time I go I meet “children” fresh out of nysc telling me things I’ve already read on Google. I wasn’t Impressed and switched to a newer Pediatric clinic in vi. The set up was great and my baby immediately loved the two consultant pediatricians who are clearly experienced. Six months later I go to this same clinic and the twice I’m there I’m attended to by baby doctors who have to call on the phone to speak with the consultant. I’m getting really disappointed with medicare in this country. I agree the youth must learn and the consultants can’t die because of work but I think there should always be at least one experienced doctor on hand that can be consulted face to face in serious situations You will notice similarities between this comment and the main article, which is the lack of experienced doctors and nonchalance of the available ones. Imagine that in a short while, this commenter could not see two experienced pediatricians. This brain drain in our health sector actually started in the 80s and you heard the Minister for Labour saying it's a good thing. The next thing is those who are around already feel bigger than the system if not ill-motivated to do any serious work and are only waiting for the right time to jet out. I have many doctor friends and believe me, not one of them is even entertaining the remote possibility of staying here for long. One just asked me yesterday about a Phd program in Canada!! What I'm pointing out is this. Why is it that when our elites see a problem in Nigerian system, instead of looking to solve it, they simply abandon the country to its problem all together? For example you see your best medical brains leaving to work abroad, instead of looking for a way to encourage them to stay, you simply jump on the next flight abroad too. If Femi Adesina was speaking the truth when he said Buhari had been patronizing foreign doctors since 30 years back, it simply implies that he started that when he was military head of state in the early 80s. That coincided with the period brain drain of our health and educational institutions started. Think about that. That's why I said the elites are the problem. ASUU is complaining of poor tertiary education system. Our elites respond by moving their kids abroad. Doctors complain of bad condition of service and welfare, our elites respond by moving abroad for medical services. Mind you, it is the same doctors that left Nigeria that still treat them when they go abroad. So what changed? What's the difference? The difference is the jobs they refuse to do here, the politicians over there do it, then they go and pay to use it!! 1 Like |

topemama1: Your son didnt have acute severe asthma and I doubt u are a doctor. U are obviously lying. An asthma child with saturation of 84% actually has life threatening asthma attack. He will be blue, limp and floppy, barely able to breath and very exhausted. If your son spO2 was truly 85%, the nurse would administer oxygen immediately and start the child on nebuliser. A&E trained nurses can initiate those two without any physician input. The paediatrics will be called in immediately. U obviously don't know the medical significance of spO2 of 84 in adults not to talk of a child. Next time, watch how u fabricate lies on the internet just to buttress a point. There are learned people here. Just say the waiting time in A&E even for children is ridiculous in Canada and we will understand. 1 Like |

You need deliverance. Wasn't talking about the OP. I know what the OP is feeling. Read what I quoted. Don't make noise. So many cases of people disparaging those flying out only to find out that they have applied 10 times or are even on the verge of moving themselves. They then spread false information which discourages people. Open your eyes and read my bro/sis. Osewa03: 1 Like |

SIRTee15: I know your type. You're definitely a nurse or someone who works in the medical field pretending to be a doc. What you just described above is life-threatening asthma and that's a step above severe asthma. The severity of asthma exacerbation is graded as Moderate, Acute severe and life-threatening. I will give you an assignment- Go and read up on the grades as I won't dignify you with any further response. I mentioned that his SPO2 at home was 85% and not at the hospital you dumboo. topemama1: spO2 of <92% is life threatening asthma attack in the acute asthma grade. Your son had spO2 of 84 but u waited several hours in A&E. oniro oshi. See quack forming doctor for USA. Better let your doctor story line be restricted to online confabulation. Otherwise u will end up in jail. |

Your experience may be different from another person's own, so I don't know what you mean by a better option for where to live. I have friends who tell me going to and living in Canada was the best decision they took. Go through this thread from start to finish, people love it and do not regret relocating to Canada. Someone like me will thrive there without complaints. I sometimes wish I could be alone in the whole of this hellhole, it's too noisy and extraverted for my liking. So, my dear Pansophist, say you would never live there, and stop imagining what hell of a kind of person would stay there. 1 Like |
