I know how much I feel lonely here too, though I don't talk about it. What I do is I make sure I visit Nigeria every time for sanity. These lonely places can savage sanity. Life is actually More than 24hrs light, which you pay for heavily, anyways.

OP, one advise I can give is don't leave Canada for now. Try as much as you can to be visiting Nigeria anytime you can. Don't tell people in Nigeria about your intention to be coming home. They'll erase that thought into oblivion because they're clueless about what you're going through. Only you know what you're going through

Very true

My best man for my wedding left for Canada this January via pr. He is a pharmacist.

He came back this October and told me he will be back again for Easter

He said there no easy at all. The loneliness na die. He is in Quebec

Let's trade places grin. You will be fine.

In this life, knowing what you want, why you want it, is very essential. One has to live above the noise and know why you are doing what you are doing.

But OP, some people are enjoying this abroad you are complaining about, such is life. What works for one may not work for the other.

What am I saying sef, long story short, know what you want, why you want it and why you are doing what you are doing, avoid the crowd mentality or the 'everybody is doing it' thingy.

Earlier this year, I went back in time to few years back when I was doing so well in Nigeria. The noises from friends and all nurtured the decision to move abroad inside of me. I became so restless till I finally leave. The first day in Canada was the day I knew this place isn't where I can be forever. Most of us would have come back before the time we had in mind except for the fact that I don't still have enough. If I want to travel to naija for vacation now, I will need up to $4k. If I take that away from my savings, I don't know how I can recover.

No one tells about the downside of this place. I feel lonely, depressed and empty most times. Because no one to talk to, just everyone in my workplace goin about their business. If I make attempt to talk to them, they just waive it with a smile. It's been 3years here and the people I still talk to on video call are friends from Nigeria. It's been 3years and my savings is still Short of $20k despite how much my friends in Nigeria do tell me how easy it is for me to make money abroad but I never tell them my situation. I can't wait to make enough and leave Canada for good. I know a lot will come at me with the usuall "come back to Nigeria na", please this is not an attempt to denigrate your abroad heaven, just for me to rant out and be fine

U already made the first mistake by rushing to Canada without due diligence. Don't make the second mistake by rushing back home without proper research.
Nigeria remain the same way u left it 3 years ago if not worse. U really need good money and solid connection to enjoy Nigeria. Make sure u secure at least one before coming back.
Develop online skills while in Canada and plan how to work remotely when u return. This is the most financial secured life Nigeria can offer- earning in dollars and spending in naira. U will be king.
I will also advise u to get your Canadian passport b4 returning. Nigeria can collapse anytime, u don't want to be stuck in here when it happens. Also Canadian passport offers u ease of traveling and better healthcare accessibility at your old age.
In the meantime, join a Nigerian church and make friends.
I think your biggest problem is being single, if u can locate a Nigerian church close to any university your problem will solved. There are lots of young Nigerian ladies with fresh blood willing to mingle with an established bachelor, find them.
The truth remain best time to relocate is before 25 yrs. Anything above that, u will struggle to adapt to your new environment. White people live a very private and independent lives and don't open up easily to strangers. What they call fun will be seen as boring to us Africans and vice versa.
If u feel life in Canada isn't for u, make a plan to come back home. Lots of Indians do it, it's no big deal. But don't rush things, u did well to save 20k dollars but trust me u will exhaust that money within a year of returning back home if u have no back up plan.
Overall, pls do everything to come out of that loneliness. Loneliness leads to depression and depression is real.
Exercise, make friends with other foreigners in your locality, they have the same challenge and u will be surprised how much u guys will get along if u really open up.

No one debates the fact that Nigerian healthcare system is weak. But my point is there are private clinics that measure up to the standard abroad.
The problem is our elites' developed taste for all things foreign and are not ready to change it anytime soon.
As for Abba Kyari's the point I was making is that he was already carrying the illness from Germany and no one knew about it until he got to Nigeria.
The same Western nations first claimed face masks can't help in preventing covid before they later changed course. The vaccination programs and its inconsistencies is another matter entirely.
You seem to make the argument that our elites patronize foreign hospitals because they are very adept at treating multiple illnesses that come with old age. Well, Buhari's spokesman told Nigerians that Buhari has been patronizing his UK doctors for over thirty years. I'm sure Buhari was not above sixty thirty years ago. This further butress my point that the preference for foreign hospitals is a question of taste which has further weakened our health system of the needed resources to develop.
It's actually same malaise our education system suffers.

I don't know about Buhari's health history but that guy would have been RIP if he didn't gone for that 6 months medical tourism during his first term. He was almost becoming a walking corpse before they flew him to UK.
Most doctors in Nigerian private hospital are same doctors in govt hospitals so I don't expect them to treat patient any differently. What u pay for his good customer service not really standard medical care. If they don't know it in govt hosp, they won't know it in private hosp.

If I take u up on assertion that your child had severe asthma and wasn't seen for hrs in A&E, you will falter.
Do u really know what severe asthma is? U mean the nurses did the child's observation, came out as severe asthma and left the poor kid in the waiting area like that? No oxygen or nebuliser administered immediately? A near death scenario with the child virtually fighting for every breath and likely having a very loud wheeze. Common man let's be real here, I thought u said u are a doctor. Whites are not that wicked even if u are black.
Most cases are admitted directly into the ward.
I want to believe u are exaggerating or outright lying.
And yes u are right, no Nigerian hospital will keep a child with severe asthma waiting. And I don't expect hospitals in Canada to be different.

Yes we were in the ER for about 3 hours before he was seen and that was even fast by Canadian standards as my son was even seen before the kids we even met at the ER. People do wait for more than 12 hours to see doctors at the ER. In my case, the triage nurse could see that my son needed urgent attention and the nurse was very concerned and bleeped the doctors a few times that they needed to attend to my son urgently. I also told the nurse that I'm a medical doctor myself and I think that helped as well and yes he had severe acute asthma as I measured his SPO2 at home before taking him to the hospital and it was 85%, he couldn't speak in complete sentences, was having intercostal and subcostal recessions, tachypneic (RR was 60), tachycardic as well.
It's not about being black or white as my son was even seen before the white kids that we met there but it's just due to the ridiculous medical system there. The average wait time to see a specialist following referral from a family doctor or for surgery for patients with all forms of cancer is between 8 months-2 years. Some patients do die before the surgery or the cancer even becomes inoperable before the surgery due to metastasis. They need doctors but they made it extremely difficult for foreign trained doctors to get jobs there. Most Nigerians who moved there are well educated but they mostly do menial jobs. Canada is a very welcoming country but the most of the best brains and talents from other countries do shittty jobs there which is sad.
Next time, do your research properly before opening your mouth or before typing garbage. Typical Nigerian attitude! I don't have time for back and forth with you and you can believe whatever you like though but this happened at Alberta Children's hospital and yes I am a medical doctor at one of the best hospitals in Houston, USA for your info.

Reading that story, one can't help but feel for the woman who watched her husband die in the hands of a clearly inexperienced doctor. However, like I said to you, the comatose state of our hospitals is the handiwork of our elites. See a comment from the link:

All the private hospitals are doing it. The first time I took my baby to a Pediatric hospital in lekki I was impressed with the experienced pediatrician I saw there. That was the first and last time I saw the lady there. Afterward each time I go I meet “children” fresh out of nysc telling me things I’ve already read on Google. I wasn’t Impressed and switched to a newer Pediatric clinic in vi. The set up was great and my baby immediately loved the two consultant pediatricians who are clearly experienced. Six months later I go to this same clinic and the twice I’m there I’m attended to by baby doctors who have to call on the phone to speak with the consultant. I’m getting really disappointed with medicare in this country. I agree the youth must learn and the consultants can’t die because of work but I think there should always be at least one experienced doctor on hand that can be consulted face to face in serious situations

You will notice similarities between this comment and the main article, which is the lack of experienced doctors and nonchalance of the available ones. Imagine that in a short while, this commenter could not see two experienced pediatricians. This brain drain in our health sector actually started in the 80s and you heard the Minister for Labour saying it's a good thing. The next thing is those who are around already feel bigger than the system if not ill-motivated to do any serious work and are only waiting for the right time to jet out. I have many doctor friends and believe me, not one of them is even entertaining the remote possibility of staying here for long. One just asked me yesterday about a Phd program in Canada!!

What I'm pointing out is this. Why is it that when our elites see a problem in Nigerian system, instead of looking to solve it, they simply abandon the country to its problem all together? For example you see your best medical brains leaving to work abroad, instead of looking for a way to encourage them to stay, you simply jump on the next flight abroad too. If Femi Adesina was speaking the truth when he said Buhari had been patronizing foreign doctors since 30 years back, it simply implies that he started that when he was military head of state in the early 80s. That coincided with the period brain drain of our health and educational institutions started. Think about that.

That's why I said the elites are the problem. ASUU is complaining of poor tertiary education system. Our elites respond by moving their kids abroad. Doctors complain of bad condition of service and welfare, our elites respond by moving abroad for medical services. Mind you, it is the same doctors that left Nigeria that still treat them when they go abroad. So what changed? What's the difference? The difference is the jobs they refuse to do here, the politicians over there do it, then they go and pay to use it!!

So someone can be lonely in this canada, well I am not lonely o.

I enjoy life to the best.

@OP. talk to people, go out, if ALL your colleagues at work are not friendly or speaking with you, CHECK yourself.

You must be an annoying person. Maybe the loneliness don cut wire for your hypothalamus and dm dy see say you dy behave somehow.

Moved to Canada few months ago, already have a gossip partner at work, I taught everyone at work how to pronounce my name properly, told them what my name means. My female boss, I dy help am carry her heavy bag if we jam at the car pack in the morning. They gossip me, I gossip them with sense.

When I get home, I gist with my spouse about work and stuff. Next week I am attending a birthday party...i hope I won't commit, na unattached MILFs go full there, make person dy careful, HPB. plenty for this canada.

Concerning savings, don't save in KOLO, open a wealthsimple account. Put your cash in TFSA.. don't over spend, you get 7-10% yearly.

Do instacart, doordash instead of doing overtime at work. You will meet a lot of people in stores and during delivery. These jobs are not only for hustlers. You will know a lot of places around town when you do deliveries.

Enjoy yourself mate...If you have experienced unknown gunmen and escape from herdsmen, you will gum your ass in canada.

I don't miss naija and I will never do.

Enough said.

Your son didnt have acute severe asthma and I doubt u are a doctor. U are obviously lying.
An asthma child with saturation of 84% actually has life threatening asthma attack. He will be blue, limp and floppy, barely able to breath and very exhausted.
If your son spO2 was truly 85%, the nurse would administer oxygen immediately and start the child on nebuliser. A&E trained nurses can initiate those two without any physician input. The paediatrics will be called in immediately.
U obviously don't know the medical significance of spO2 of 84 in adults not to talk of a child.
Next time, watch how u fabricate lies on the internet just to buttress a point. There are learned people here.

It's very obvious that you haven't lived in Canada before. I'm a Nigerian/Canadian and the girl is stating facts. I'm also a medical doctor, so I know how the health system is in Canada. It's terrible to say the least. I remember when my son was having severe acute asthma attack and we rushed him to the A&E in Calgary, Alberta. we waited for several hours before we could see a doctor. That can never happen in Nigeria as terrible as the country is. I later moved my talents to America but I can tell you there's still no place like Nigeria in the world. I just hope Nigeria can at least get a bit better than the current situation that the country finds itself in at the moment.
Why is the news of the 90 Canadian doctors that have dropped dead over the last two years being suppressed, and only alternative media's are reporting it.

If you're in Nigeria, there are only few businesses you can do that will generate steady and good revenue for you but what about the quality of life and other basic things?

And as you're in Canada, there are things you definitely will benefit that those living in Banana Island can never benefit with their billions.

Everything in life has sacrifice and focus. Know what you want! This loneliness bla bla bla is stale. It's no more news. Stop the comparison and focus on positive things.

I know your type. You're definitely a nurse or someone who works in the medical field pretending to be a doc. What you just described above is life-threatening asthma and that's a step above severe asthma. The severity of asthma exacerbation is graded as Moderate, Acute severe and life-threatening. I will give you an assignment- Go and read up on the grades as I won't dignify you with any further response. I mentioned that his SPO2 at home was 85% and not at the hospital you dumboo. Life is just not fair-I am a Canadian, I used Canada to my advantage and took my talents to the USA and japa while you're still here on naijanairaland typing nonsensee. The keyboard warriors grin grin grin grin

spO2 of <92% is life threatening asthma attack in the acute asthma grade. Your son had spO2 of 84 but u waited several hours in A&E. oniro oshi.
See quack forming doctor for USA. Better let your doctor story line be restricted to online confabulation. Otherwise u will end up in jail.

I've always made my dislike for Canada known on this forum from day one. I can understand if one has no other options of a better place to live, but Canada should be the extreme bottom of choice if you have options.

I have visited Canada lots of times and just hates it there. Too depressing, boring, freezing cold and dark. Snows everywhere like huge heap of sand, and people hardly mix.

Just get the passport and leave. But to call it your permanent home, you must be one hell of a kind of a person.

Speak for yourself. Everyone isn't a social butterfly. So, they will cope. Your experience may be different from another person's own, so I don't know what you mean by a better option for where to live. I have friends who tell me going to and living in Canada was the best decision they took.

Go through this thread from start to finish, people love it and do not regret relocating to Canada. Someone like me will thrive there without complaints. I sometimes wish I could be alone in the whole of this hellhole, it's too noisy and extraverted for my liking. So, my dear Pansophist, say you would never live there, and stop imagining what hell of a kind of person would stay there.
