Yes he had a passport 11 years ago when he first entered Nigeria at 9 months old. That passport has obviously expired so she wouldn't be able to "smuggle" him out & if she tried & got caught. What would the outcome be = more stress and delays & what if the sister-in-law comes with relevant papers claiming my Aunt is the one in the wrong and the child is released into her care... While the authenticate her document/DNA, what happens to the child ESPECIALLY if he's sent back to sister-in-law DearGorgeous: |

I really don't understand how some people think that's even debatable, especially when the said in-laws are doing a very bad job at taking care or the child and have seized all communication between mother and son because the child always asks her to fetch him when they speak over the phone. They no longer send and pictures of him or anything Mindlog: |

I understand that Imadiya, but they way things are going, the boy is getting older. They won't be able to hide him away from his mother forever. Infant he may grow to resent them for putting him through hardship while his mother was alive and very much willing to have him and take way better care of him imadiyi: |

Thank you!! People are soo quick to judge and some think the family has just been sitting around for the last 11 years just sending money to Nigeria while Aunty lives her best life. She started trying to get her child back a few months after her husband passed away. She had to extend her stay while she was there because they kept giving her the run around telling her they need to perform some rituals for the child. She's been to Nigeria numerous times. I read a story about an American attorney who's children were being withheld for 3 years and it was only the FBI and another organization that I forgot that eventually got them back. American /Nigerian embassies, Nigeria private investigator, Nigerian police all failed and she had in all spent over $50 000. So does that mean if someone does not have access to the FBI or $50 000 then they should not get their child back? imadiyi: |

Imagine! But I'm sure the child know cause the neighbor talks to him and always tells him his mother loves him and will fetch him. Apparently he's tried running away from home twice, stating he was going back to his mother in South Africa cause he was tired of suffering Chinny024: |

Eish! And if they were actually using the money to take better care of the child and they were letting mother and son communicate via phone call or video call as they used to before he started talking. And even allowing him to visit his mother in South Africa, maybe my Aunty might be somewhat okay with them living with her son. But as things are she wants him back as in yesterday fluffybaby: |

Lummoni: let her come down and get her. He is her child, she has every access to her child. if they refused get a good loyal or Human right group involved and get your child or alternatively, stylishly moved him out without them knowing, though the official way is better. 1 Like 1 Share |

Lummoni: I understand. No matter what, DON'T GET FIRED! Well, she has to make do with multiple 3-day visits as her job permits. 1)get a clean photograph to process a Nigerian then SA passport for him. 2)apply for visa 3)book travel tickets, driver/guide, security escort. 1)Always carry birth certificate & baby photos. 2)The boy has to be made compliant for smooth travel operation. Police, immigration etc dont play wt trafficking, they'll notice any discomfort. Meanwhile, try and get the neighbor to make more contacts for her incase the neighbor becomes indisposed. People not related to the family. Talk to Noone again about taking the boy because a secret known by more than one person has become a news broadcast. 1 Like |

Yes some things in life are sometimes are grey but some are just black and white. Yes they were married in South Africa and Aunt had submitted all those documents to people attempting to help her over 5 years ago. No she has not lived in Nigeria for 1 year (why would she need to? The child was born in South Africa and has her listed as his birth mother on his South African birth certificate and his passport). The sister-in-law who is withholding the child is the one who has no ground to stand on because if my Aunt had been another kind of woman, she could say the child wasn't her late husband's child, so all this time they're re busy hogging a child who isn't even related to them. But even if the child has no relation to them, he will always have his mother's blood. No we do not have pictures of him selling water, a neighbor who is in contact with my Aunt is the one who has seen him leaving the house or returning home carrying water plastic bags on his head & she (neighbor) has asked the boy about the Water and he's said he was selling and hadn't gone to school. The father-in-law didn't exactly say they (his wife and daughter) would kill her. But he did say "if she keeps pushing, she would never return to South Africa cause she might end up like her husband (what does that mean when someone is in a foreign land, visit a family they don't know for the second times to fetch a her child after her husband just passed away?) Yes she has proof of sending money and all the correspondence with different people/organizations over the years. She sent money just last week. She's nt going to wait 7 years, 11 years has been long enough Father254: |

Lummoni: keep that passport and other baby articles as evidence. Check my previous reply. While processing his papers, get an SA court judgement, get a lawyer and adopt it in a nigerian court. For the right amount, a midnight police raid and escort maybe all you need to get him from them. This is nigeria, ur biggest problem is money. Estimate the cost of transporting a person btw SA-Naija and triple that amount. The extra two is for lawyer, police, etc and "logistics". Don't forget to have more money for "unforeseen occurrences". IS UR AUNT THE CHURCH TYPE? HERE IN NIGERIA, Jehovah's witness and Assemblies of God i know could be of good help in this situation. At worst, u can enrol him in a mission boarding school away from them. Then he can travel when other arangements are done. |

Lummoni: If they are from my Tribe then you need to sort it amicably.... In my land, issues like this will not be sorted out by force and violence because we are all violent and stubborn out here.... The catch is this... We are also a lot Emotional about things.... So if you wish to get the kid just try to workout everything amicably and Emotionally .. Don't move by Aggression.... Move by wisdom and calmness.... 1 Like |

Lummoni: Lummoni: Send me a message to "Jonny Doen" on facebook. I am an igbo man, born and bred, i can assure you this is completely out of order traditionally and otherwise. Meanwhile, Abuja or lagos is far from any part of igbo land, almost like 2 different countries culturally and here we don't know about the so called berekete radio which is in Abuja. I've only read about them online. Can you get the name of the village, community and state? That's only way to get you reasonable help. 1 Like |

Lummoni: Best believe it. The Nigerian approach to family and children is abnormal. If the men aren't kicking their wives out of their homes penniless, then they are claiming the children as their sole property. But if the child turns out bad, it's the wife. If he cheats, it means it's her fault. Patriarchal ownership culture with full-blown escape of responsibilities when it suits them. 1 Like |
