It is determined by cost of production.
Wages here is basically cheap, cost of leasing equipments, so is energy and for this reason price could be lower.

. It's even higher that $7 in some states in the US. The fact remains that, we're not consuming same quality of coke. Fanta is even worse . You'd not want to drink Fanta again once you taste it as someone who comes to Nigeria to visit. It used to be very good but the economic situation has made most companies reduce the quality of their products to remain in business in Nigeria
My grouse is the way they are quick to compare the incomparable, forgetting that the living standard in those countries are appreciable. The rate at which they disgrace themselves is alarming.
A minimum wage per hour in US can buy 13.8 bottles of coca-cola in Nigeria while in Nigeria minimum wage per hour will buy 1.38 bottles of coca-cola each at #200. Not knowing it's even cheaper for them there than here.
Anyone earning #30,000 monthly and is drinking #200 coca-cola daily, just know that he is drinking his hourly salary.

Cheap? It is expensive in Nigeria compared to other countries. Let's take for instance, Denmark which is +4$, hourly wage is 20$, while Nigeria hourly wage is 0.09$ (minimum wage) and the price of coke is 0.38. Hourly wage in Nigeria cannot purchase 1 can of coke while Denmark hourly wage can purchase almost 3-4 can.
englishmart:
you're probably right. So why is ours way much cheaper?

The price of coke in Nigeria is way cheaper than it is in the USA and most developed parts of the world.
Below are the charts that bear the prices relative to countries.

I guess it's cheaper in 3rd world countries.

It taste more like black water these days. You don't even get the dope feeling you use to have when you finish a bottle of coke. That genuine cocaine burst that makes one burp those days no dey dey there again.

And fakes from the backyards abound too.

Earning power of Nigerians and Coca Cola's staff is lower. Tax is lesser in Nigeria, Coca-Cola pays no environment and recycling fee in Naija, raw materials are cheaper in Nigeria they just sink a borehole and use the water free.

I doubt there's such thing as substandard coke.
Unless theirs have extra caffeine in it, which will not be good.

While the one here can't really be substandard or adulterated, Coke and its related brands in most of those is different in taste compared to here.
May be "sweeter" or something, but it is different on taste.
