Mindlog:I live in America, let me tell you, American retailers would rather die than sell 'About to expire' groceries at a discount. 'About to Expire' items are discarded in large numbers instead of being sold at a discount. I follow an account on instagram that documents food and retail waste at American stores. It is a sad story. And yet, a good number of Americans are starving. It gives me joy to know that the Brits sell at a discount. It reduces waste and helps feed the poor - Two things American capitalism don't care about. |

EmeeNaka:pls more explanation on this? I had one sister relocated to UK with her family last year, just made another relocation to Canada this year complaining of UK as 'dried land' |

DanjaNinja: British supermarkets also waste food, if the discounted food is not sold it ends up in the waste bin but homeless people go there every single night for bin-diving. |

sunbreaker:UK is tough. There are not much good paying jobs here, and their taxes will leave nothing in your pocket at the end of the month. I will advise you to come to UK if that's the only option for now, because it is still better than Nigeria when it comes to salary jobs. It also takes longer to settle here, you probably will need a company to sponsor your visa for 5years before you settle and most common company that sponsors are in health and social care, so you will most likely be a carer for 5years before you can settle. |

EmeeNaka:Do you think that the UK has higher tax rate compared to other developed and underdeveloped countries? |
| Re: Some Tips About Living In Uk by EmeeNaka: 9:03am On Mar 26, 2023 |
justwise:I have not compared really. I do know I pay PAYE+National insurance and the Council tax. |
| Re: Some Tips About Living In Uk by justwise(mod): 9:16am On Mar 26, 2023 |
EmeeNaka:Yes you pay that but how do you think roads, street lights , police , bin collection and free health care are funded? The UK is not even in the top 10 of highest tax rate in the world |
| Re: Some Tips About Living In Uk by EmeeNaka: 9:41am On Mar 26, 2023 |
justwise:I have never told you that paying tax is wrong. What are you talking about? I said that the jobs do not pay enough, and as such, after taxes are taken, not much will be left in the pocket. The statement there is to let him know that there are not much high salary jobs in the UK. I do not have anything against tax. I only have something against pay, which I am not the only one talking about it in the UK. Majority of UK residents are not happy with their salary and the UK minimum wage is poor. |

hikiki:With kids, one of you may choose to work night, while the other can do a day job. Honestly I am shocked when I hear that people can't save anything in the UK. As far as both of you are working and you live within your means, you will save more than that. I will say to you: everything depends on how you live and how much you can work. Even with 500k in Lagos, many will struggle. |

EmeeNaka:Yes everyone complain about minimum wage and want a pay raise but look closely at countries that pay high wages and see the cost of living in that country. My point is..the tax we pay are used to pay for stuff we use or that keep the country working. Have a look at tax-free Nigeria and tell me how good things are. |
| Re: Some Tips About Living In Uk by Nobody: 2:49pm On Mar 26, 2023 |
Zeel007:Most people earn between 1,600-2,500 monthly and do fine. £7k monthly, you must have lots of experience in one of those sought after professions! It's a lot of money to have at your disposal. But yes, medical and IT professionals get that much and drive BMWs (and even Porsche) around. 7k after PAYE tax and NI will give you 4k7 net income. If you don't spend anyhow, you will save 3k every month! Banks will be offering you loans, you can quickly buy a house, rent out part of it to augment loan repayment. Or if you plan to invest back in naija. Either way, you're a big man. |
| Re: Some Tips About Living In Uk by Zeel007: 3:02pm On Mar 26, 2023 |
crows2ravens:Wow, thanks boss. But what if I earn that 7000euro in Nigeria will do very fine an just asking bro |
| Re: Some Tips About Living In Uk by SIRTee15: 3:02pm On Mar 26, 2023 |
wildikeman:Nigerians Americans are the most successful of all migrants yet u won't see them constituting nuisance on social media. Pls naija migrants to UK and Canada, if those places no pay u return to naija. Don't be disturbing our ears, we've heard enough. They will be the first to star complaining about UK as if the embassy use visa beg them to relocate. |

| Re: Some Tips About Living In Uk by SIRTee15: 3:09pm On Mar 26, 2023 |
hikiki:If your plan of relocating to UK is to build a mansion in lekki or maitama u better stay back in naija. Except u are a professional and u coming straight out of the plane to work as a professional, saving 400k per month with a family to feed is a mirage. It will take u at least 4 to 5 good years of hard work, acquiring new skills, determination and little dose of luck to be able to save 1000 pounds monthly. UK at the moment is not a joke. U need to have a good job to enjoy the place. So if u have a good job in Nigeria I wouldn't advise you to come. |
