Labaran Maku: We Thought The Obidient Movement Was A Joke by maupe: 1:01pm On Mar 28, 2023
A former Information and National Orientation Minister Labaran Maku has admitted many saw the ‘Obidient’ movement and the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi as a joke.

Obi, a former Anambra State governor, took the nation by storm when he emerged as a third-force candidate. Despite being dismissed as lacking a political structure, the LP candidate who enjoys a huge youth following scored over six million votes and won in 11 states to finish third in the just-concluded exercise.

But while fielding questions on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily about the outcome of the 2023 elections, Mr Maku admitted that the opposition politicians never gave the LP candidate and his supporters a chance.

“What happened in the presidential election as you could see was that there was this wave of young people, the ‘Obidients’ that we all took for granted and we were thinking Peter Obi was a joke. Where would he go?” the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain said on the breakfast show Tuesday.

“So, both PDP and the APC, we were thinking ‘This man does not have structure. He will not be able to do so much’.”

He, however, maintained that young people proved them wrong and put up an unprecedented showing in the 2023 elections.

“But the young people seized the initiative from the politicians. And for the first time – what we saw in Nasarawa, Edo, several other places, and in Delta State where the PDP vice presidential candidate comes from – we saw that young people were serious about what they were doing and they took advantage of social media to project a programme which has shaken the nation.”

The PDP chieftain from Nasarawa State admitted that the party lost the presidential election in the state to LP but claimed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s win in the governorship poll was faulty.

For him, the results of the governorship election declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were concocted.

I am sure you don't know what it takes to win a local government seat in Nigeria.
So with all the structure Tinubu has built for over 20 years with the enormous financial war chest at his disposal he could only "win" Obi with 2 million votes. So if they have left both of them one on one without federal power, Obi would have destroyed his life

I am looking forward to that time in nigeria when people will have enough wisdom to vote for individuals and prospects inspite of their political parties or tribes. I'm looking forward to that time when someone will be contesting for a political position not just because he feels it is his turn, or because he wants to enrich himself but because he has a burden in his heart to make the country better and greater... Meanwhile goliath and the philistines too taught david was joking until they saw goliath's head rolling on the ground

It was a negative joke as far as Iam concerned , the movt achieved absolutely nothing but just set us back ..

They managed to get just one governor ( Alexx Otti would have won in any party he joined ).

They made Tinubu win the election undeservedly.

APC still has more seats in the National assembly thanks to the Obidients who cut PDP votes everywhere

Labaran OBi or LP, what we need is Revolution!

Go to Old Kaduna Market and look at the way they keep chickens there in the market.
Hundred of pale hens and brightly colored roosters, stuffed tightly into wire-mesh cages.
They see the organs of their brothers lying around them.
They know they are next, yet they cannot rebel.
They do not try to get out of the coop.
The very same thing is done with humans in this country.

God bless Obidients...........
Although I'm a fanatical supporter of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the erudite Sen. Gov Shettima,I have always asked myself the question, why do I dislike Obidients.
Obidients are Nigerians, young, powerful, energetic, vibrant and very passionate about changing Nigeria.
Sincerely every young Nigerian should be an Obidients minus the caustic, tribalistic, foul mouthed, hypocritical trolls that try to pollute the movement.
A part of me is always happy whenever I remember how Obidients shook the foundation of Nigeria to its roots,No movement has shaken Nigeria I daresay since independence.
Obidients are now in House of Assembly, they are represented at the state level and also in the National Assembly, that patriotic side of me will always keep hailing Obidients.
I indulge Obidients to please for the sake of Nigeria, remove the whiff from the shaff, remove the ethnic champions, the foul mouthed demons, the biased and hypocritical people among the movement and transcend into a political force that will shape the future of Nigeria.
Nobody can stop the Obidient movement unless it decides to self destruct, which I pray doesn't happen.
Let Labour party open its wings to embrace genuine, patriotic, hard working young Nigerians to be the leaders of the movement,I'm sure many of us will joyfully queue behind them.
Let Love for Nigeria be at the forefront of all we do.
God bless Obidients
God bless Nigeria.
P.s
God bless Asiwaju, the president-elect,in- coming Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Not matter what, no movement disrupted the status quo like the Obidients even career politicians attested to that fact as many were shocked that the social media generated millions of votes in the ballot boxes.

Nigerians are now rethinking what structures really mean going forward.

Would politicians still be willing to spend fortunes on bribing delegates for nomination when they ultimately know that when majority of Nigerian youths reason their matter, their inordinate ambitions would be dead on arrival except they employ the services of thugs on election days but for how long would thugs help them when we begin to see youths deploy drones (no matter how the authorities oppose it) in their neighborhoods to capture and stream real life on-goings at polling units.... technology will retire many politicians who are obsessed with power with no intention of service.

Have you read the complete petition ? Soon you will understand the scripture that says "Be still and see the salvation of God" you will also understand the meaning of" When the Lord turned again our captivity,we were like them that dream and our mouth was filled with laughter.....
