Some empty Nigerians will just be happy to see airports being constructed in their state. They don't bother to ask how sustainable such a project is.

The minimum wage in Ebonyi is still N30,000 and the purchasing power is far, far low. Yet, the state is wasting billions on a white elephant project that won't add much value to their economic development.

I don't know who will be using Ebonyi and Ekiti airports. White elephant project for small states that should be looking at doing other things with their revenue.

Enugu airport is not far from Abakaliki. The moment you land in Enugu, the express way takes you to abakaliki straight to the opposite direction.
And no one goes to Ekiti via flight, only few people. No airline will want to invest in Ekiti now. Even Benue that has an airport, their airport is not viable enough for airlines to invest in, most of them fly via Enugu and even as far as Abuja.

The only viable airport here is Anambra. Even at That, For someone like me, if I went to travel to onitsha, with the completion of second Niger bridge, I will prefer to land in Asaba instead of anambra (although it depends on the part of onitsha one is going to), I mostly go to head bridge market and Asaba airport is just the best for me.

Go and rest!!! Ebonyi airport is still more viable than Anambra airport! You people are fond of putting down other people's successes and claiming yours is better! Biko, go and rest with this useless chestbeating.... Umahi did very well for the good people of Ebonyi state and that airport can serve those areas that are close to it especially benue and kogi... Those in onitsha and environs would rather fly in from Asaba

As a Rivers man. Anambra is better than all the states you mentioned there except Lagos and Akwaibom

AwkaFinest:

You claimed if Obi was governor of Rivers, Lagos, Akwa Ibom and Delta, those states would have been better. Then I ask is Anambra better than the other states I listed?
We all know states like Lagos, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Oyo, Enugu, Kano and Kaduna are far better on average than Anambra when all ramifications of governance and development is considered.

Is Anambra better than Enugu?
Is Anambra better than Oyo?
Is Anambra better than Kaduna?
Is Anambra better than Kano?
It is not about chest beating let's call a spade a spade 20-15yrs ago Anambra was in the league of Abia or even worst.
Dirty, insecurity, nonsense government school, owing civil servants and so on.
There was a time Anambra is more dirty than Abia, upper iweka was den of armed and unarmed robbers.
But Obi did so well, it will be very unfair to forget so soon.

That ekiti airport is just an airstrp not a full fledged airport

Did your incompetent governor call it airstrip when he was commissioning it? Why all these excuses to defend mediocrity?

Even poor and remote Jigawa and Gombe have decent airports so why not Ekiti? Everyone has left you guys behind o.

Which sanity are talking about while reasonable people are talking about viable and laudable project.
Did Obi instill that your sanity when he governed for 8 years in Anambra?
Do you think anyone can rule Nigeria without constitution?
Do you think obi as a president can tame the governors or fire anyone that constitution put in place?

Forget sanity, that what people think Buhari will bring but the system humbled him.
If Buhari, a military man cannot tame the system, is it obi that is a civilian that will do it

Stop mentioning Buhari's name in leadership discussions because he knows zilch about leadership. Buhari made it abundantly clear that he cannot do much when he was voted in the first time and kept to his word, but he still contested again knowing that he knew nothing about leadership.

As for Peter Obi, your question shows that you know nothing about Anambra State. Meet someone who knows the state to explain the difference between the Anambra State Peter Obi met and the one he left. Peter Obi practically wrested the state from the shackles of influential evil men who had the capacity to kidnap an incumbent Governor Chris Ngige.

Baba I once though that some states (Ekiti) do not need an airport but instead they should concentrate more on expanding intrastate roads and if viable intra state rail networks, but then I'm not in the government and I don't know the reason surrounding their choosing of airports over the later.
I think we have to look at the bigger picture here, some of this airports are not a stand alone project, take for example Ekiti airport is not just meant for an transport alone, it's part of a bigger project-the Ekiti economical free knowledge and technology zone which is meant to attract fdi and even funding from the Africa bank, also note that the Nigeria airforce will also key in to construct a base with larger airwing in that zone. In fact small terminal is for temporary uses as it can be further upgraded if future plans are met.
Many airports today are in concomitant with free trade zone, for easy access to area of products, reducing logistics hurdles and as a plus commercial air operation.

So it's not a waste, if they can key into the vision of making it larger than just passenger transport

Read between the lines. The so-called Economic and Technology Zone should have come earlier before the airport.

Outside Oyo, I have been to all of the states you listed and the answer is yes and no depending on where you are dragging your comparison from. Outside Enugu, Kaduna or maybe Oyo bcs I don't know much about the state they have enjoyed successful good leadership. El Rufai did wonders infrastructure wise. For the last 8years nothing happened in Enugu. Successful Governors since Obi has continued to do well in Anambra. Obiano tried, Soludo is also continuing the good work. And you have private Citizens building infrastructures like road, pipe bone water and factories in Anambra and this is where many states you listed are lacking behind. Anambra has more private Citizens helping in the state development

If they're using there own mostly for Hajj, are those in SE and SS also used for Hajj? Have you checked air traffic numbers in Nigeria? It is dominated by cities in SE/SS. Even Anambra airport of yesterday is now busy and Ebonyi won't be any different.

With the level of insecurity in Nigeria and Fulani terrorists waylaying on the highways, a state having airport can make investors to invest.

Well said mate!

Just to add to the video clips, Dave Umahi is truly a Structural Engineer. What a colourful display of modern facilities.

For that of Ekiti State, God is Good terminals are more colourful compared to that waste of taxpayers money tbh, our leaders could do better if only they shun unnecessary looting.

Lastly, I think the drawings and digital displays should be more of their individual local cultures, yes! As a tourist in your State, I should start having a feel of your local cultures from your airports in terms of drawings and displays.

In all, a great job by Dave Umahi and Willie.

I have come to the conclusion that Anambra people are the biggest chestbeaters and noisemakers in Nigeria. With all the useless noise they made when the airport was opened and were even disparaging others. I could remember one idiot saying that all the airport will surpass other airports except Lagos within one year of operation... Lol...What a joke...
It is still the least patronized airport in the Southeast and one of the least in Nigeria.. Onitsha people would rather use Asaba Airport...
Ebonyi airport will serve many locations because there are no airports in that area and the axis... Anambra airport is a waste!!!
Your hate doesn't change the fact that is the richest state in human resources, you can only hate but you can't stop them, Ebonyi mall it's was Everyday emporium which is own Anambra man that Dave had to beg to use the mall, Dave is also lobbying Allen Onyema owner of AirPeace to use the airport, Anambra is blessed in all ramifications, you are only hurting yourself, Anambra airport is very viable and fully active.

You're so spot on! Peter Obi did his best for Anambra state, and if anyone knows the dire socio-economic and security situation he met on ground....not to mention the distraction he was getting from greedy godfathers whose firm grip on the states finances and politics he was trying to prise off, then one would begin to appreciate better just how much he did for the state! If a Peter Obi had governed states like Rivers, Lagos, Akwa-Ibom or Delta in the last 8 to 16 years, those states would be much better developed and governed today!

He was in charge of Tin Can ports in Lagos during Abscha's reign so uou can look at what he did there which was not much. Everything I have heard is supposition. We took this kind of chance in 2015 with a populist leader and look where it got us.

Anyways its the way it is. Let's see what Tinubu can do.
Re: New Airports In Nigeria: Anambra, Ebonyi & Ekiti Airports (Videos) by Ashirioluwa: 1:46pm On Apr 27, 2023
Nigerian government and substandard projects are married together. They are like husband and wife.

Nigeria needs one big airport that will be a connecting airport to all other African nations and the rest of world together, not these ones they are building for the purpose of embezzlement.

Those who have course to travel outside this country will know that the runway of our main international airport (MMA) is nothing but a shame. Power interruption is another thing.

Inside the airport is also a mess. You can’t use airport bathroom in peace without the airport cleaners begging for money. The Nigerian airport security are the official beggars of Nigeria.

That's your pedestrian understanding of how investments circulate. Google the number of domestic air passengers per airport per year across Nigeria and compare the figures with the number of road passengers per state in Nigeria. Then, Google the reason why airlines in the Nigerian market struggle to make profits. Compare the data with those obtained from near-peers like Indonesia, South Africa, and Malaysia.

You'll see that Nigerian state governors are just wasting tax payers funds on white elephant projects. If a state is economically developed enough to attract big projects like airport construction, they should allow private investors to take the lead. State governments can just provide motorable roads and other infrastructures to support the projects. This way, they wouldnt be wasting public funds.
