Please die this yarn! Of what benefit will another child or more children be to him in his present situation? Will more children make him healthier, happier or wealthier? Or should he breed more and wait to reap that blessing you mention and the fruits of his labour in old age? What guarantee does he or any of us have of living till 2040?

One of my relatives has 5 kids and almost every bill payment in that household is becoming a matter of family contribution, where other family members have to chip in and contribute money to help them. This is a household where both parents are still alive, please where is the blessing in having 5 children when you cannot pay your bills?

This our backwards thinking and claims about children needs to end.

I honestly think one of the ways to achieve some of your dreams is to permanently end child birth. As in, do not have anymore children! My father had 7 kids and in one conversation he said two children are more than enough in this present age, because children are going to be more difficult to manage and our economy keeps deteriorating. Grasp some worldy wisdom from an old man who has lived 7 decades on God's earth.

I know you said this but think about making it permanent. You already have 5 kids as far as I am concerned, there is you, wifey, your sister and two kids. Consider yourself a child who also needs to be taken care of as well (mostly by you and wifey sha).

You still need to buy good shoes, underwears and shirts for yourself, visit the hospital when sick, get a haircut, eat shawarma or suya, etc. So, don't over do it with a large sized family. Think quality over quantity, the fewer the better!

I don't know how old your sister is but if she's old enough to find a legitimate income source with your help or by herself, that will take a load off you and free up some disposable income for you. Try to get her self sufficient and financially independent so she is not a life long responsibility of yours.

Keep trying and doing your best, the good book talks about time and chance, perhaps it is not your time and chance to blow yet, but that shouldn't stop you from dreaming and working towards it. Saka, the Etisalat/9mobile ambassador talked about finding success at a later age in life, let that encourage you while you also take the time to enjoy the good things you have now.

Because USA treats HND as same as BSc for academic purposes. All you need to get into a PhD often times is a BSc.

Unfortunately, ignorant ones like you are the ones to be avoided. I have a PhD and I know many who has HND and were admitted into PhD programs fully funded. Besides in my case, I have both HND and BSc and both were considered for my admission because my HND gave me the Math requirement I needed for my program. I would have thought someone with a username like yours would act in line with your username alas, you are just an opposite of what you claim you are.

That said, if he avoids me; that is his choice. I only gave him a suggestion that would help him achieve his dreams and here on Nairaland, the information abound.

OP pls don’t be annoyed with him. I appreciate greatly your suggestion and I will definitely try my luck sir

Well for you I think it may be too late - you may need to adjust your dreams a little.

But I think this thread should be a warning to the unmarried - don't rush into marriage. Before you do, you need to work and build up to the stage where marriage will help you develop your dreams, not hinder them.

2 years ago, a colleague from the university who had gotten married looked me in the eye and said Smarty don't do it! - until you've accomplished your self development dreams otherwise marriage may become a trap.

Get that master's first. Build that side business first. Buy that car first. if within reach, build that house first. And not getting married early doesn't mean running around with women either.

If you are scared, then what do I do? I am also going to be 40 on the 19th of November and I have just gone back to school to have my degree. I have two children. I don't have a job of my dream yet. Just being struggling as a teacher. Sometimes, I get sad about how life has been unfair to me because I know my abilities and where I am supposed to be but thanks to the troubles of life I am yet to get there. But in all, I thank God for the things I have. I know there is going to be light at the end of the tunnel. This I am sure of.

I understand your pains, Bro. But life never goes the way we ever wish. I have same dream as yours but I have seen that life is not what we can control that's why I make 2 - 3 plans of my life every now and then.

What I will advise you to do is try to invest your money in physical business. I don't know how much you earn at your work place and the school your children attend. Does your wife work or you're just the sole piller of the house?

Your wife need to be working and support the family. You need to out your kids in school you can afford conveniently. That they did not attend Oxford university doesn't mean they won't get job when they graduate.

With these being looked into, start a provision business, I mean a very big provision store and have the target of turning it to a supermarket soon. You will surely achieve your dream.

Where I am working now, I gave my wife 2 options to choose in life. No1. I asked her if she wants to be a nurse or a house. If she chooses to be a nurse, I will train her and she will work and support family. If she wants to be a house wife, I want to open boutique for her to be selling things.

You're not too late but check yourself and how you spend your bills.

Take care and Goodluck

There is an adage that says: When you wake up is your own morning.

Life is not usually measured by how quick but how well.

Pray to God, keep believing in yourself, keep your dreams alive, work hard and smart and someday, your story will inspire others.

Also, learn to count your blessings, one by one. We sometimes focus on the things we don't have and overlook those we have. You have eyes and can see; legs and can walk; tongue and can taste; hands and can feel; mouth and can eat; ears and can hear; brain and can think; di*k and can fu*k, nose and can breathe (and smell), etc. Many are willing to give up millions of naira for these blessings we take for granted.

Be grateful to God for the things you have, whilst diligently working, praying and pushing for those you don't have. Your time will surely come.

Best wishes.

Gratitude is a virtue.

I came across a thread here earlier on, about poor lad seeking clarity about rendering his hearing organ completely useless.

Truth is, life can be ruthless, insensitive to our desires, painful. While going through that particular thread, I was drawn back to reality, being hale is the ultimate blessing one could ever ask for.

If we can be conscious enough to appreciate the little wins, I strongly believe it will surely attract the huge ones.

No Deadline for Success

A fool at 40 is not a fool forever. Moses left Egypt at 40 without anything. Yet, he returned and overtook everyone in Egypt. After much failure, Colonel sanders succeeded with KFC in his 60s. Your time is your time. Whether 40 or 60, your age does not limit you. What limits you is your attitude. There is no deadline for success. The only deadline is death. As long as you are alive, tomorrow can still be better than today.

Its not a must you must have a dream..look at me,I did not have a dream but am fine.

Some of you never had any dream. You just woke up to the reality that successfull people had dreams and vision so right away you started dreaming. Dont lie.

You know many do not have any dream when their dream is just to be rich. Nobody dream of being rich. You dream of doing something y you love. If you had such you would have been about it till date and some how would have done enough in it to be consider successful.

Good day Nairalanders
I will be 40 on Oct 19 this year and I am scared the kind of life I have always desired may not be
achievable. Let me list these things that worries me so that you can probably advise me or assist me in achieving any of them.
1) By 40 I had wished I will be living in my house with cars in my garage
Current situation- I am a salary earner who eagerly waits for the salary to drop before my family can eat conveniently every month.
2)I love cars and driving. Was thinking of getting a good car for Uber business.
Current situation- I have not been able to gather enough money to buy a car for Uber or personal use.
3)Seeking greener pasture abroad.
Current situation- I have not been able to have enough disposable income to even get a passport to start with in the first place.
4)Self development. I had interest in programming so I decided to learn coding and all that. I started with free code camp and also this thread by iyenimofe on nairaland has been so helpful https://www.nairaland.com/1383359/learn-web-design-live-nairaland/6#17571611
The issue I have progressing is that of enough data subscription to watch more tutorials.
5)Acquisition of at least Masters.
I have a passion for learning and self development but I struggled to have my HND with distinction. Gathering enough funds to start my masters program has been an uphill task.

Little about my background
I am an HND graduate
I have a sister who am responsible for also.
I have a wife and two kids.
I work 8-5weekdays

If you get off nairaland and actually put in just 30 minutes of work everyday into those dreams of yours, by 45 you will have achieve them all an more.

I suggest you do that, instead of coming to whine on Nairaland. Are you a loser?

What kind of business can I start with little capital. And can I quit salary work when I don’t have side hustle yet?
yea sure it will be hard for you now because there are children. I realized on time that salary earning was a rosy path to poverty when I quitted after throwing in a whopping 5yrs and 6 months.

Start a side hustle with as little as you can. There are businesses that need no capital to start. Snap people's properties like cars, houses, lands and post here on nairaland(there are many sections), jiji, olist etc. When you sell one, you can make huge profits. Just get started first because where you're headed with salary work is not good at all.

I am glad you came to the realization of this, but it is better late than never
Solution: Seek for other sources of income maybe online or a tangible side hustle.

What does your wife do for a living?

Also, seek to join co-operative societies where you can dave and later borrow money to buy the car you want for Uber.

Express all these to your wufe as well so that you both can make your goals a family project to strive at.

Above all, no matter what happens, do not impregnate your wife with a baby for now... Cheers sir grin

Pls how do I get in touch with co-operatives. I need to join some.
