Hello everyone, Please I would appreciate it if anyone can help me with this question: My F1 visa got rejected last year December, so now I got an admission to a different school, and a loan too. So I would like to know if they give visa to students who want to finance their education with loans, and what is the best plan I can use to convince the VO that I have to pay back the loan. And also can I still use my last SEVIE receipt for my new VISA interview appointment? Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your contributions. |

Good morning guys. Thanks for this platform. I am a 2.2 graduate of International studies and diplomacy. I have over 5 years banking experience and recently, over a year's supply chain experience. I've found supply chain to be quite fascinating and will like to proceed to the US for a masters program in supply chain. Can I still meet up with this year's fall or next spring's intake? Please do I stand any chance of getting funding? I'll be glad to receive recommendations of schools I can apply to also. Please help a brother 🙏🏾 |

Hello everyone please kindly help me out as I’m going through a lot at the moment, it’s an emergency 🙏🏼. Got admission to study computer science at southern university and a and m college for summer June 5 2023 but my i20 came very late . I paid my sieves fees, visa fees and created a profile but I wasn’t allowed to schedule an appointment since April 19, after filling my visa fee receipt there was a message display that “‘my application to schedule an appointment as been submitted that they will send me a mail when it has been approved. I don’t know if this is the same for everyone as since April 19 till now I haven’t heard from them and my plan is to apply for an expedited date once they reply. Please help me thanks . |

This year's fall ? That's almost impossible if you haven't applied already. Spring 2024 is a better shot but you should still hurry it up still. Every school has deadline for admissions (and funding application too). Your eligibility for funding has no generic answer. Depends on the school (some give funding alongside admission, some ask you to apply seperately, some will request for essay, some GRE, some will invite you for an interview after giving you admission and applying for funding, some will combine some of the earlier mentioned), your own application (Degree transcript, professional work history, and how early you apply). If Spring 2024 is your target, then you should already have target schools in mind and done some research on their admission and funding requirements (and deadlines). krisbweezy91: |

Of course, they give Visas to loan-financed students (check previous threads about F1 visa on here) but be ready to explain how you plan to pay back to the VO. You did not state your COA. If the loan amount is on the high side, chances of getting that Visa is reduced. Your Sevis fee is valid for one year from the date of payment. Best of luck! Oabayomi24: |

Hello there. The US and other Western countries are very big on inclusion, especially for people like you. Somewhere in all of the visa forms you filled out, there would have been a section where you can identify any physical challenge you have. I'm yet to fill any visa form so I can't say for sure where such info lies. but I'm very sure applicants will be asked to identify any such challenge. if you identified as an applicant in need of sign language communication, the consulate or embassy will make such provision for you. I've been on an exchange program to the US before and one of my cohort members from Nigeria was in a similar situation as yours. They got him a sign language interpreter at the interview. I wish you all the best. ide2012: |

Hello everyone! Please I need to be cleared on something🙏 I did my first interview with a private university and my major was computer science but what appeared on my I-20 was computer and information sciences. I told the school counselor to change it but he said it's correct that the I-20 name for computer science is computer and information sciences. But unfortunately, my first attempt wasn't successful because the school was too expensive. I got admission into a public uni with a low COA. Now, this is where am confused. The new school used computer science on the I-20 the sent me, not computer and information sciences. Please, I hope the vo will not think I changed course because I don't know how I will explain this to them so that the will understand that it's not my fault. |

Hello great people. I have a quick question, a friend got admitted into two universities, he already scheduled a visa appointment with one of the universities but wants to go to the second university upon getting into the US. Is it possible to transfer from one university to another? if he has two I20s from both university? If possible, how easy can that be? Also, his visa interview was scheduled for September and school starts in July, since he needs to apply for visa 60 days before school resumes, will an emergency appointment request get him an earlier date before school resumes? Thank you |

Hello Great People. I have been away for so long on this platform. I literally gave up after getting two denials 2021 and 2022. However, the situation of this country is not even getting better to say make person have major carrier progress. So i am giving it a shot again. Currently I have admission into East Tennessee State University for fall 2023. I couldn't get funding so I am using POF. I am trying to arrange for it and I need your advice here. is it best I say my company is sponsoring me? been working there for 1.5 years or i should say my father is(NB: I had already told the VO my father is retired from my previous interview). Please i need your help great people. |

mojolajesu:You have had 2 strikes and cant afford to be inconsistent with your answers.. if your financial situation has changed, you have to make it make sense to the VO. You have to tell yourself the truth.. what caused 2 denials in the last 2yrs plus? If you didn't get funded in the last 2 interviews, why are you going on the same route of no-funding? Try something different. Only you can help you! Good luck |

Thank you so much for this. Yes my financial situation has improved greatly from the last interview. I have spent about 300 dollars applying to schools and trying to get funding but it’s all negative. I get the admissions but not the funding. From my assessment, my last denials were based on the fact that I was using MPOWER loan solely for the funding. I had low income and couldn’t prove that I can pay back the loan upon my return to 9ja. Got a couple of people who advised that it was a wrong decision to have solely used loan for funding. Tbh, I had given up this whole race not until recently. I am actually doing this very very scared but maybe an extra trial wouldn’t hurt. BigIyanga: |

mojolajesu:We all know that $300 is a lot of money for most Nigerians… but you have to see it as a return on investment ie. If u use $300 to gain $30k scholarship/stipend/gtra/.. it means ratio of return is 1:100. This na best legal ritual and Betting odds. It’s up to u to choose what you would like to do. Do you want to share your profile so that other folks can critique and swot-analyze it… for a better outcome. Good luck!! |

I don’t mind sharing my profile tbh. this your analysis was my exact projection but it did not just work. Applied to four schools, 2 gave admission other didn’t. The two that gave TTU and ETSU. I personally wrote to several professors for assistantship but to no avail. Reached out to some 9ja students in TTU via LinkedIn and they told me that it’s very difficult to get funding in Computer science department as a masters student. Some of them even advised to check other schools as they are even facing some issues with the department. I am in touch with the program coordinator for ETSU. He is very responsive. He said they funded only 10 people out of about 400 students applicants . He further said even tho my application was one of the top considered but I couldn’t fall into the 10 people that got funding. I also reached out to another 9ja student in ETSU and he said if you are able to get visa, with your skills set, you will get job here. Brief Profile I had my first degree in Civil Engineering. Grad 2017. Switched to IT during COVID and have been working since then First application was to WPI. Had a loan of $50k and COA was about $43k. Same goes for the other one( I just jumped into the second one based on impulse from the first) Now I and trying ETSU. I haven’t gotten I-20 yet cause I am trying to get peoples opinion before I start using money to get POF. I am open to constructive criticism here. From your experiences and analyzing my chances Thank you BigIyanga: |

Good Day Guys. I am in a unique situation and need help. I just got admitted to a Masters program (with funding) in the US but the problem is that I recently resumed In Germany for another masters program but I want to leave it for the US offer. I want to know how to go about the visa process. Is it possible to do the visa interview here or must it be in Nigeria? And what is the possibility of visa approval given the fact that I am currently enrolled in another program? I will appreciate all the help I can get. |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Andracarles: 11:52pm On May 15, 2023 |
It is very difficult to get funding for computer science, especially as your first degree is not in CS, and you seem not to have any work experience. did you write gre? the thing is that, for someone who has gone twice, you need funding. you need it badly. my advice to you would be to write gre, look for funding in civil engineering, get your visa, when you reach the US, you can transfer sevis to any school you wish and study any course you wish. your chances of approval without funding are low. not impossible, but low. and if that happens, you are looking at interview number 4. not a good place to be. mojolajesu: |
