iamoyindamola: You too do the calculation now. If itās 1700 from Dangote factory and it retails at 2600 or 2700 from retailers, thatās a 900-1k difference from factory to consumers. Thatās basically 50% margin. Iām not sure Dangote himself makes that high per bag. |

āBeyond todayās ceremony, our first goal is to ramp up production of the various products to ensure that within this year, we are able to fully satisfy the nationās demand for quality products. āThere will be constant availability of high-quality fuels for our transportation sector, the refinery will also make available to our industries vital raw materials for wide range of manufacturing.ā - Aliko Dangote 4 Likes

Fasten your seatbelt, coz its a trip from Lagos to Kano, but you gonna enjoy the ride powering by Dangote PMS. Indeed the inauguration of the Dangote Refinery is certainly the game changer as it will not only ensure Nigeria attains self sufficiency in domestic petroleum products requirements but will also save Nigeria over $20b annually in demand for Forex to import petroleum products while bringing in over $10b annually in Forex from exports. This will certainly free up demand for Forex while increasing forex supply which will help the NGN-$USD exchange rate to stabilize and strengthen the NGN. Other socio-economic impact such as jobs creation, powering of several other industries, wealth creation etc cannot be overemphasized. I recall with mixed feelings, the bold decision from a group that I led, when in 2008 we decided to make an effort to relocate two brownfield refineries from Houston, Texas USA to Nigeria in a bid to resolve the issue of importation of petroleum products to Nigeria and the huge subsidies involved which has taken a new dimension then. At that period, most business entrepreneurs in Nigeria were busy trying to get involve in importation of Petroluem Products for quick benefits but we chose to be different by taken the road less travel by aiming provide alternative solution. The strategy was simply to acquire and relocate two brownfield refineries with combined capacity of 200k BPD which process can all be completed within a short time and this refineries can optimally work for between 10 to 15 years within which period we envisaged the issue of Govt owned refineries will be resolve to get them back working and also new Greenfield refineries like the Dangote Refinery will have come on stream to ensure Nigeria achieve self sufficiency in local refining and becomes a net exporter. Relocating a brownfield refinery may take between 2-3 years max while building a Greenfield refinery may takes between 7 to 10 years and even moreā¦ A lot of work was put out to identify the Refineries for acquisition and relocation, MOU signed, JV agreement in place, inspection by DPR, preliminary budget/project cost agreed, equity financing sourced, debt financing under negotiation subject to conditions precedent, land allocation discussion ongoing to find the appropriate location in Delta and Rivers state among other critical requirements etc. The unintended event of May 5, 2010 and the attendant policy reversal abruptly ended this vission/objective as the last leg of the fundamental support and enabling environment needed to deliver the project was lost and the available refineries were eventually sold. My mixed feelings today is that sure if this refinery relocation project was during PMB time, the requisite institutional support and enabling environment would probably have been effortlessly on the table to see it through to delivery in the best interest of the country. Indeed, in 2018 PMB approved for NNPC to start a ārefinery collation initiativeā with NNPC engaging with some groups to relocate a brownfield refinery owned by BP from Turkey to Nigeria to be sited in Rivers State and Delta State, Warri ā¦same strategy as we had in 2008. Well, history will continue to bear witness and I am extremely excited like all well meaning Nigerians with the inauguration of the 650,000 BPD Dangote Refinery, which is the largest single train refinery in the world and once it is ramp-up full steam in a couple of months, the fundamental deficit of importation of petroleum products to Nigeria with all the distortions to the economy will be resolved for good and Nigeria will be net exporter of petroleum productsā¦ only IDAN ALIKO DANGOTE can deliver this under the current circumstances. Congratulations Boss and God continue to make this easy. - Shehu Dikko 4 Likes 1 Share |

larride: Can u please share the interview u are referring to here ? I doubt Dangote is saying the truth if he indeed claimed wholsesalers put almost 50% margin on his products when it gets to their hands. For starters I know Dangote stopped carrying his products a long time ago. He already hedged that risk by allowing distributors own trucks registered under his franchise to carry products from his depot in Obajana to any part of the country . Most times when those trucks have accidents and people burn them down in the hope of hurting Dangoteās business , they donāt know they are destroying the business of their kinsmen who own the trucks and have it registered under Dangoteās franchise . For example the risk involved in transporting products from Obajana to Kebbi state is transferred to the wholesaler who is carrying the product ; risks such as paying all security men on the road , escaping robbers in the road and even risk of having ur truck burnt down when an untoward event happens . I remember a case in 2021 when one truck killed an okada man in Obajana , the youth of the town mobilized and burnt all the trucks on queue waiting to load at the depot . ( These trucks belong to individual businessmen who keyed into Dangoteās logistics franchise and they had to beat the risk on behalf of Dangote ). I think Dangote is being economical with the truth if heās claiming wholesalers put as much as 50% margin on his products ex-factory works . If u have a sit-down talk with the wholesalers, u will be surprised those margins arenāt that high as Dangote make them seem . Lastly I found it very very hard to believe that an entrepreneur will assemble all the factors of production to come up with a product offering to the consumers only to have wholesalers making 50% margin on the final product . It wonāt even happen in the most capitalist economies my brother . 2 Likes |

BlueRayDick: Iāve been trying to get my hands on that interview since last night with no success. I canāt remember if it was on Twitter I saw the video or YouTube. Look at the breakdown that iamoyindamola gave and you will see it mirror at least closely to what I said and attest to what you say also. Dangote, lafarge and bua sells cement at almost at the same factory price, it is the additional cost and profit margins of distributors that makes Dangote cement more expensive than the others. |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 7:51am On May 23, 2023 |
larride: I disagree with this position in bold. Dangote cement being priced higher than other brands might be due to a lot of factors other than distributor's margin. For example it could be due to branding and how acceptable the brand is ; It could be due to the fact that Dangote is a market leader like indomie in the noodles market(which makes indomie more expensive than other brands), It could even be due to the marketing/advertising effort of his business managers who have imprinted it in people's mind that Dangote cement is a better brand such that u are willing to buy Dangote's cement cos u feel safer due the the quality product they promise in their adverts and marketing effort. I honestly don't think wholesalers just price Dangote cement higher because they feel like doing so. Whatever the case may be, Dangote the man surely knows about it. |

izzou: In the east Na tummy tummy be no1. Maybe it's because of the carrot inside. When I saw indomie generates 1 billion dollars annually and I ask myself if this can happen without conquering the whole Nigeria then there is money to be made in the country with the right investment. |

izzou:He sold his noodles to Dufil prima. At present no food brand can rival or conquer dufil foods I think it's impossible. These guys know Nigeria more than we do. See what they did with power oil, no wonder they keep investing more in the country. |
