I think he must have done his survey before choosing Lagos.
Possibly he made the right choice.

Whats the fuss. Lagos was not even first choice to situate the refinery. From what i read, Dangote initial plan was to situate it in Ogun or Ondo State, But Ogun government were not ready and were billing him different kind of omonile money, and he located it in Lagos because Lagos government was business friendly

The best place is Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta , Akwaibom, Edo, Imo or Abia State. The refinery would have been closest to source of crude and still have enough space but Nigeria is a cruise country.

go and make your money and site your own refinery in your own bedroom. Nonsense and ingredients

Cos of nearness to the sea which ll aid international movement or oil, it's the best. If he went to Delta or Rivers, established militant base ll disturb him. Now he's to worry about militants that ll migrate to Lagos or those that ll arise in Lagos which can be easily combated.

Abi oh. The south south people dealt a lot of blows on oil companies dat many have left some parts of their oil rich regions . Miltants abounds, elders and youths fight against themselves, put heavy fees on oil companies that major oil companies have sold off their assets there.

Pipeline vandalism is also rife with lots of crude oil lostto oil thefts. Lagos is not too small and naturally an environmental impact assessments would have been done before such a gigantic oil refinery even started to be constructed.

Not the best place at all, that refinery is designed to fail , it's not close to any oil field , it's too close to a massive urban centre

I don't agree with you that the redinery will fail.

When siting such a massive project you have only 2 choices - Build it close to the source of raw materials or build it close to the major market.

They chose to build it close to the market possibly because of the restiveness in the Niger Delta region which is the location of the raw materials.

Apart from the problem of air pollution which will affect only the immediate area in Ibeju-Lekki I do not see any other major issue

Let us leave that refinery where it is. That refinery was initially designed to be built in Eleme LGA and OKRIKA LGA both in Rivers State. The two LGA chairmen then came with outrageous demands, communities directly connected came with their's, then boom the state governor came with his. It was captioned on one of the local radio news this morning of how they chased dangote away with our OIL mentality. Today they are regretting it. When you hear of lazy Nigeria youths, come to Rivers state.

How about the environmental pollution it will cause in Lagos , is lagos not too small and crowded for such a big refinery?

I read:
Oil refineries emit large amounts of air pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. These pollutants can cause respiratory problems, including asthma, and increase the risk of heart disease and lung cancer etc i think lagos is too small and crowded for such a big refinery

No, it is Maiduguri..

Is not really in Lagos.. Geographically the Refinary is on the Soil of Ogun State. Lagos does not have that land for that big project. They just using Lagos to suit the global audience.

The refinery will produce near zero environmental damage, all constituents of crude oil are to be refined out including sulphur and nitrogen oxide which are to be used in the urea fertiliser plant nearby.

If he builds it in the south south, kidnappers and militants will shut down and blow up the facility, if it's in the east, IPOB may attack and burn it, in the north, no oil and the distance is too far, coupled with terrorism.

Perhaps the right place would've been Ogun state but the Lekki FTZ makes his business more profitable and the location is far better for his workers. So it's all about profit bro. As for the environmental pollution, it's not a big deal... that's what production economies have to endure. Nothing goes for nothing.

With the siting of the refinery in Lekki and the potential gas flaring and the already bad water in that area and traffic.

The Lekki hype go soon come down.

Your concerns are valid but I am confident the exhaustive environmental impact assessment studies done has taken care of potential problems noted.

Nothing and no one is perfect but big projects like this tend to have very solid, comprehensive and effective EIA reports and it appears the Dangote refinery project does from studies I have read.

The challenge is for relevant agencies to also adhere to guidelines and residential set-back recommendations without allowing corruption compromise their dedication to duty.

The site itself was chosen strategically and carefully as meeting criteria for location of the refinery.

When they told them to call their sons to order I mean the militants, they were busy collecting money for building or renovating their tached family houses and buying ogogoro.

LAGOS is the best place to locate refinery for the following reasons:

Niger Delta Environment is already polluted and degraded by crude exploitation activities.

LAGOSIANS are used to noise pollution, congestion, poor public and personal hygiene. Lagosians are used to shanty / ghetto lifestyle. They are used to harassment by TOUTS and thugs. They are used to a life devoid of human dignity and decency.

Therefore, mere carbon pollution from petrochemical will not be noticed.
