On Friday last week, this lady came to work by 10.55am. He work time is 8.00am, and she is an office admin. I was on my seat and sighted her walking in, I had to call her and told her to go back home, and that was it.

By the way, she lives like 15 minutes away from the office, and her route is always against traffic.

I wouldn't know when she resumed from Tuesday to Thursday because I came quite late on those days due to field engagements. When I resumed, I met her sleeping twice. After that, she abandoned her work and stepped out to answer a phone call for almost 1 hour.

My experience with this lady made me understand that a lot of people looking for work are not ready for/to work.

Nigerian work is slavery at its peak, In the western world, there is what we call nap. You could have tapped her up and advice her to go and take coffee. Why do companies like Google have, rooms for games and the like?

On the lateness, since this is her first time after the interview you should have given her a warning letter with you keeping the acknowledgement copy. Ideally, a standard working environment should give two warning letter, the third one will be a sack letter.

It was even my wife that picked and told me she called , and there was music noise in the background like she was in a club.

Is written in constitution Section 108 and paragraph 9: states that an employee should adhere to the terms and conditions of the lay down rules of his or her office including (1) To be punctual (2) No use of cell phone or any other garget related to that (3) No eating in office etc.

If you feel any mistreatment, and your dismissal is unlawful.

telling someone to go home shows the workplace is not structured...There's something called query and there are due process to firing someone especially if the person is sent an official letter. No one working for reputable Coys will try this because of threats of law suits....

I think one thing you failed to do as a manager was not asking if she has a problem or something disturbing keeping her back everyday. You said she really needed the job yet she came late everyday, that should tell you something is not right. Sometimes we need to know what our staff are going through as an employers, except they aren't ready to discuss their personal issues.
