It is true. I was in Port Novo last year and I saw how they all buy fuel from road side instead of petrol stations.

I build investment website for 10k only or you can get the script for 5k and install it yourself.

All scripts work superbly.

I also build VTU website for 10k only or you can get the script for 5k.

I also build multivendor ecommerce websites like jumia or jiji cost 10k only or you can get the script for 5k and install it yourself.

Fuel in Benin is N489 right now.

And right now, fuel in Nigeria is N488-540 per liter.

At the end of the day, smugglers cannot make a profit at all. Removing subsidy has made it difficult for anyone to smuggle fuel across the border.

And people ask me why I say subsidy must go...well here is one good reason. grin

Modified

If fuel was still N195, and I was living on the border, I can buy fuel into two 50l jerrycans, at N19500, cross the broder and sell it at dobule the price, and earn a cool N40000. Note that it was not only big cabals involved in the smuggling...it was also small poor boys and gals too.

That's what Tinubu means by making corruption less attractive. Fighting corruption is not just by using EFCC to chase people up and down.

This is pure propaganda

How is these products finding their way to those countries. No one have been sacked for not doing his job in securing our borders or arrested by the security agencies for smuggling

Instead of tackling the issues, they keep running around

Oh you sweet summer child... cheesy (No sorry, I am just amused).

The reason why is simple.

Fuel in Benin costs N489 , while fuel here cost N195.

Subtract the difference, and at the end you would see why.

Plus if we really wanted to stop this, (and in my opinion, I agree with you, we should...we just don not have a serious government...especially when it comes to border security)....we would have had to employ more customs men and women, and build a wall around the country. Am not joking. I am serious....we would also have had to expell people living around the border, and make it a demilitarized zone.

In other words, we seal ourselves off.

Because it isn't big tankers smuggling the thing...it is also thousands of small guys carrying jerrycans across the border. And those guys are difficult to spot and to catch.

Removing subsidy was the best way to stop this matter. It was the only way.

We equally took to the internet when borders were closed because we missed cheap foreign good that made our bum bum grow faster.
The overall lesson is that the leaders can secure the borders but need easy money to keep flowing in and choose the subsidy trillions to bankroll their profligacy.

The Kpayo local name of the smuggled fuel from Nigeria got me laughing. In Cameroon it is called Zoa. For the most part I think most smuggled fuel found in Cameroon comes from illegal refineries. The quality is known to be inferior and destructive to car engines.

Well it's possible but I want to tell you for a fact that Nigeria is providing 80% of fuel consumption in Benin Republic. How do I know? Cos I shuttle between the two countries and besides that's where my wife resides. Before subsidy removal, fuel is sold in Benin for 300 CFA per litre but presently if you're buying close to border you buy at 700 CFA per litre and inside town its now 750 to 800 CFA. I believe there filling station will sell much higher .
