it is about the look and feel of a city, which attracts tourism and investments. It is not about housing issues. European cities didn't have housing issues when they started building skyscrapers
Which European countries have skyscrapers ? The Scandinavian countries judged to be the best economies in the world has less skyscrapers than Joburg

Norway has over 1 trillion dollars in investment and I can tell you Lagos has probably more sky scrappers than it

UAE has money ...Infact they have more money in one year than Enugu has had since it's creation

Let me tell you a story , a very rich man , buys his kids cars when they are 18, worth $800k ...gives the houses , and hold watches , insits they can it fly private jets

A Nigerian civil servant staff family wants he same thing the rich man is doing for his family ... should he save invest grow richer since investment would bring more revenue , or use his salary to buy them what he can ? Or borrow money to give them what they want

Answer me please
You think the high rise is just a show off thing??

Bros forget this topic, it above your pay grade. When people discus futuristic project just sit if you don't believe in the dream.

When UAE see money na?? Pple that were so poor that the British refuse to colonize them. It was the mercy of the Indians that kept them before the discovered oil.

They planned ahead. Now dubai has almost depleted their oil reserve it tourism and real estate and industry now.
Read, travel and know dont just argue.

If yu see the picture of dubai in 1991 you will never agree in 2020 it ll be one of the most visit city in world.

DXB is the busiest airport... a once upon a time desert.

it would be for offices of businesses, hotels, shopping centers and residential houses. It is called mixed-used skyscrapers.

how is Rwanda doing it? I have replied you in the last post, go and read it. I'm so disappointed in you in this thread bro. Did I say Enugu can look like Dubai or Kigali?

Kigali is a nations capital so where business head quarters must be

The way to get sky scrappers is 1( create a business district ...every business must be here to here
2)support local businesses to expand and grow ...

Once the depend for office space in the business district is more than the supply and people can't build on new land... people would naturally build up

That is how u create economically viable skyscrapers that won't end up like cocoa house

Not government building sky scrappers

a skyscraper doesn't have to be expensive. It is like saying a flat is more expensive than a duplex. Skyscrapers are abandoned for the same reason enugu-onitsha express way is abandoned...ergo maintenance culture in Nigeria

Eko city is a business hub. Sky scrapers are occupied by multinational corporations because it's costly to maintain.

Akwaibom has a sky scraper but till date it hasn't been occupied. If care is not taking, in the next ten years it will rot.

There are many giant buildings in Lagos that were never completed, some completed without occupants.

Tinubu tower was serviced by airduct. After awhile, he had to cancel the agreement because he couldn't maintained them.

Do you know how rich Tinubu is?

Do you know what airduct do?

Now you see where the problem is?? Certain things are to be in place like I said earlier, electricity is one. If there is stable electricity people will move into those buildings that is a fact and it would be cheaper than paying 1.2mil for a Bed sitter.

If you know know the population that lives in those high rise in the middle east yu ll understand my point.
Sky scrapper isn't for show off.

government can build skyscrapers. I have lived in multiple countries and I know a few of the skyscrapers under construction being built by government. In Qatar, in Singapore.
Government can also contribute land alone while real estate companies build the skyscrapers.
What is the benefit of skyscrapers you ask?
What is the benefit of the alternative? In what way has the rag structures popping up in our cities benefited us?
You and I know that skyscrapers are used to make statements of the intention of a city. No need to argue this. No major city in the world doesn't have a skyline.
Oga to tell you the honest truth, skyscrapers is not and never our problem. Government should channel into human capital development, promote empowerment and poverty alleviation programmes and not one dumb skyscrapers. Please be guided. I'm also an Enugu indigene, but I tell you skyscrapers is not our problem for now.

There is electricity in most part of Lagos and in Akwaibom but it hasn't worked.

No one who can afford 1.2 million and live in such crowded place in Nigeria.

Enugu Onitsha express is abandoned because of lack of revenue

Bros sky scrappers doesn't have to be expensive ? Lmfao Bros can you build a 30 store building with less than 50 million dollars ? Even with our cheap labour

Ok let's say we build 30 story apartment buildings with 50 million dollars

Say each floor contain 10 flats of 3 bedroom flats that's 300 flats abi ?

You want this house to cost 1 million per year abi ? ....that's 300 million naira .... yearly

Let's assume we give the building light for free, all the staffs work for tree, the maintainace is done for free

300 million that's $400k pet year revenue

At this rate it would take 125 years to break even assuming no inflation

Do you still think it's a good thing to do ?

culture is fluid. People do culture according to what they know. Show them something else and they leave the old culture for good.
Also what stats tells you shopping centers in filling stations don't do well? Skyscrapers in Eko Atlantic are all mixed used not just offices...in the same Nigeria. What happened to the culture?

Sir Rwanda steal resources from DRC to develop Kigali. The resources in Rwanda can’t bring them real time development. With all the resources they steal from DRC their budget is 40% funded by western partners.

All you have listed here are Nigerian-specific issues. Kigali is a city in the middle of nowhere. Uyo has more resources than Kigali but Kigali looks more modern and urban with skyscrapers than uyo..and I can tell you now that people are occupying the skyscrapers in Kigali..they are not abandoned. Remove corruption and half of Nigeria's problems is solved within 12 years

I was involved in the construction of Qatar petroleum headquarters. Ned Nwankwo also does sand-filling in a large swamped land before building his estates. In the case of a modest skyscraper, you don't need to do much of that
