AIG are always next inline to be IGP. That is the more reason all DIGs are retired immediately. Because it is improper for their junior colleague to overtake them.

On another note. I think this is frank MBA second or third promotion in the space of 3months. Retirement is calling. His promotion to DIG is more of a reward for his contribution to the force. Once this IGP retire, and a new IGP is selected from AIGs, all the DIGs retires immediately including Frank Mba.

Actually, that's CP. While regional balancing already starts to play out in promotion to CP, almost every cadet ASP can hope to rise to that rank. Anything above that? Forget it - you need lots of luck.

Not all of them will retire, only those who are senior to him.

Example: Sanusi Lemu was already DIG when the present IGP was Ag Force Secretary (CP then AIG) and later DIG. In the space of a few months, Baba moved from DIG to IGP.

Lemu didn't retire because they both joined the force same day (15/03/1988) despite him been DIG years before him.

They don't follow those things.

Usman Baba had three (3) years yet was appointed, it's all on paper.

Well as far as I know, there are a few factors that may inform choices in IGP selection.
1. Course or year of graduation from police college
2. Years of service
3. Region of origin

Most DIG are usually a course junior to the IG, this mean they are either close to or have attained retirement, therefore care is usually taken in order not to select an IG yhat may retire in few months. This is why AIG is usually selected for it position
