And the players picked were not home based players? Oga we are not kids here..this thread have been existing for years and many monikers here are oldies.... same way we support the super eagles foreign based players we follow up the chan team, female football and cadet teams so save us the blushes
No one called anyone kids as you are drifting away from the suggestion. If you watched the constitution of Super Eagles Players from 1990 to 1993 had a good mix of Home-based players and we posted decent results then.

Yeah, and we have national coaches who are also bad. grin

I guess speaking to national coaches also validates your point too on the fact that we dominated yet also played counter attacking football through out. Lol

The contradiction. 😂

Not only an academy coach but a National coach. Do you now under why it validates my point?

I was keeping that in the arsenal for you, knowing you could rubbish the academy coaches. grin

I know my people.

Bundo finished from tap in. That's what you want to portray here go on mister.

He made some impressive saves.

Looking back at the table, I now understand why that game went the way it did. Kudos to the SE and JPes for qualifying for the AFCON finals with a game in hand.

Our attack is World class
Midfield is African class grin
Fullbacks are competent class
Centre backs and goal keepers are ... invisible submarine class cheesy

We focus a lot on our midfield shortcomings but I think we are better in midfield than at Centre back and GK. That's why there really is no spine to this team.

Oh and was it only me that heard the Sierra Leone goal keeper and one of their centre backs were 18 years old. We should fear God more in Africa sha.

As things stands, our midfield is the poorest.
Poor not only because of personnel selection, but in how they are told to play.

Very true. It's so tactically and technically obvious.

I no go mention his name but the least bad National coach is better than your best. You know that.

That's based on what I personally observed.

We dominated because Sierra Leone were not good in holding on to possession once they get to our half.

From there we passed the ball forward as soon as possible.

Was that not counterattack? Or did we play possession football today?

Was it a lie we dominated the game today despite our counter attack?

Okay, what was today's tactics?

The home Based players of Sierra Leone play for clubsides like Bo Rangers, East End Lions and Kallon Fc who have not reached the 2nd to the last phase of any CAF CLUB COMPETITION yet their players could make our foreign based stars sweat. Why not include Home-based players to match their grit? I think you should get the point now.

TheSuperNerd:
Oh okay. Theirs? Well their first goal was nicely worked from the left. Won't call that individual brilliance alone. Bundu was fed a sweet ball and he beat Omeruo for pace to bag that scorcher.

And with the midfield in the first half, yes we had chances but it wasn't down to the midfield entirely. Ndidi didn't even get most of his long balls right. Aribo was hardly involved in that first half bar the sweet assist for Osimhen's second. And Iwobi also struggled a bit although he did have hands in second phase build-up passes. Same as Ndidi.

And I wont call names, but truth remains things would be a lot smoother if we focus on playing the exact player profiles that would elevate our midfield plays beyond kick, rush and hopeful balls.

The formation in the first half was 4-3-3 or 4-1-2-3/4231 depending on Iwobi's positioning in the midfield buildup phases coz he was the link. Aribo was the most advanced of the 3 Midfielders.

Zaidu also played as the most adventurous of the 2 Fullbacks today. Osayi-Samuel had to check his runs and be more defensive.

Typical of you to keep asking and repeating questions to prolong talk, especially irrelevant babblings.

Nigeria had more of the possession and passes today. Kindly explain how since all we did was counter attack.

You asked what formation we played and I answered (see above) and you said nothing on that. Now you ask it again but in another way.

Abeg rest or you can go ask your coaches buddies to explain to you. Perhaps they may help if they know. Lol

Mister "I-better-pass-you-bcoz-I-speak-to-NT-coaches" 🤣🤣🤣

Mention his name oooo. You dey shame that's why. Lol

Let me know if he is among those that just carry certificates but can't explain the 3 phases of build up plays. Lol

Poor not only because of personnel selection, but in how they are told to play.

Our midfield issues from a personnel perspective are excercebated by our inability (NFF and Managers) to even recognize it is a problem or the will to find a resolution.

We have been inviting 4 midfielders in squads of 23 for years now. When a national team (obviously can't buy players) is in the predicament we're in, you would expect that the available options that are untested get tested asap. They've not done that.

Who expected a midfield including Sunday Mba and Onazi will win the biggest prize in African football?

Our defence options (CB positions) on the other hand is disaster class!

Omeruo - This is his 11th or 12th year in the team, and diminishing returns set in a while ago to put it mildly.

Ekong - at his best would would be a squad player. Too slow (that Sierra Leonian first goal would have been even easier for the striker had it been he was in a foot race with Ekong). Also slow recovery rate when beaten by a trick.

Akpoguma - Never seen a good game by this one. If he is the answer then I cannot begin to imagine what the question is.

Bassey - the jury is still out on him being he is verifiably young. But if we're being honest he is still learning the game and in today's money he isn't any better than what any other half decent teams in Africa have to offer.

Balogun - has served gallantly and can retire from international football in peace.

Ajayi - for all his height doesn't win enough aerially. Good tackler not so good marker nor is he aggressive enough. Again like the rest of his peers not the quickest on the park.

If these guys face a striker like Percy Tau today....it will be very messy.

I don't even know what to believe on this thread anymore because NEPA no gree me watch this match. Some folks here think the keeper was good because he saved 2 goal bound opportunities from the Sierra Leoneans while others think he was poor. Between Iwobi and Aribo, please who performed better?

This is the part where @The Supernerd should come in with his analysis of individual performance.

Remove Aribo from the midfield setup, The team won't really suffer. Remove Iwobi from today's match and everything crumbles.

There, you have your answer. Iwobi did 3jobs today.

We need friendly games to try out Onyedika, Alhassan, Daga, Nnadi, Eletu and Nwachukwu. But we won't do it. Trust me.

What we will do is arrange friendlies, call up exactly the same squad bar maybe 1 or 2 players and play a very familiar 11 on match day, with Musa on the bench (stealing a valuable spot for a young player), for his experience wink
These u20 guys, i hope a few go to Afcon sha. Esp the defenders cos this defence today no fit hold current powerhouses from the North. They'll crumble.

Don't mind them jare! Playing Iwobi and Aribo gave Oshimen the free space to run to. See Aribo exquisite pass for that second goal. Simon and Chukweze also great on the wings.

I just finished the highlights and like I said that was the best Pass Aribo has made in a super eagles shirt. Beautiful
