They do it to scam, not for attention.
The year I opened my nairaland account, a friend of mine opened too that same year but he's using a female account. He was pretending as a female on his BBM too that year. After you've started chatting for a while and you invite him over, he will ask for your location and then give you a state that is very far from yours and ask for transport fee. Once you sent it, you get blocked!!!
