This is one of the reasons why despite everything people say about Abacha, he still remains one of Nigeria's best leaders for me.

During his tenure, US, Britain, France...etc, all closed down their embassies in Nigeria and left.

Abacha's children schooled here in Nigeria. Abacha himself never toured Europe and America, he ruled in Nigeria, lived in Nigeria and died in Nigeria.

It's good to see other African countries getting rid of European parasites. They don't mean well for you. All they do is come to your country, build their military base, find a way of accessing your resources and ship it back to their country.

Going through posts and comments on Nairaland, Twitter and other social media, one cannot but marvel at the level of ignorance that pervades our public space.

When did France, UK, and the USA close down their embassies in Nigeria? Have you heard the story of Walter Carrington in Lagos? Do you know how many billions of dollars Abacha wasted on lobbying these countries to accept his illegitimate rule? Do you know that Abacha raised special delegations led by the late Odimegwu Ojukwu to lobby for his government in Germany and that's why we had Julius Berger handling majority of our road construction projects?

For your information, it wasn't Abacha's wish to be confined to Abuja. He was afraid of coup and rarely stepped out of the FCT in the later years of his regime.

β€œFrance recalls that the legal framework for its defense cooperation with Niger is based on agreements concluded with the legitimate Nigerien authorities. These are the only ones that France, like the rest of the international community, recognizes,”

Exactly!

This statement from the French authorities is very provocative. Imagine the thieves and oppressors insisting on "recognised institution". Who's the recognised institution if not the Nigerien Citizenry?

These people have made it clear that they're in full support of the junta and you're shoving your repulsive guts in their faces, talking nonsense about a recognised government.. . No wonder the Chinese and Russians have such hatred for western countries.
Absolutely right

Let's get some facts straight. France has not helped enough to combat terrorists in this region. They're all about French citizens back home. Let them go back and let Niger decide what to do with itself.

The terrorism they indirectly created?

They learnt this method of control from the US, arm some paid paupers to cause havoc, then come and claim to be fighting this same people, then stay put for years, using that excuse to ship raw materials to their country while leaving the host country poor (by bribing and giving loots to selected 'democratic/political few')

Lol, that was when the going was good. After Ken Saro wiwa's death, they all closed down their embassies. In fact US sanctioned Nigeria.

It is not even military regime, Nigerian soldiers are doing anyhow.

Imagine military regime when a soldier is in power.

Many of you asking for military rule were probably born during democracy or in the fading years of military rule.

The only reason why it appears like military regime gets things done fast is because the dictator operates with decree, not constitutional law.

In a presidential system, the president does not have absolute power. To get many things done, Tinubu needs to get some sort of approval from the National Assembly. Sometimes, he may send a request for 10,000 naira, and the NASS will slash it to 5000 naira.

But in military rule, the head of state is extremely powerful. He can make decisions (decrees) without consulting with anyone. That is why decision making is fast under military rule. No constitution, no checks and balances. The head of state can do and undo.

Carrington served as the U.S. Ambassador to Senegal from 1980 to 1981. He was appointed by U.S. President Bill Clinton in 1993 as the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, where he remained until 1997.[5] His ties to Nigeria were deep; he had married into a Nigerian family[6] and had lived in three Nigerian cities since the late 1960s.[7]

This man served as the U.S. ambassador to Nigeria till 1997.

Saro Wiwa died in 1995. So when did the U.S. close their embassy in Nigeria?

You know, many of you parrot fallacies on social media. Read books, you won't. Consult elders, you won't.

Exactly. They rob us to keep their country moving.
Without resources from Africa, especially Francophone, France is doomed. Their issues run deep, including recent protests against violence, racism, and unemployment.
