Smh. Is that the lie they gave you? You don't know nada. Nollywood is the name given to Nigerian indigenous films industry. That means indigenous films by Nigerians, produced by Nigerians and transmitted to private homes and shown at cinema.

While you were hyping Living in Bondage in the east, several decades before then had been Nigerian films that were block busters that you never knew because such technology which had gained ground in Yorubaland had not reached the East. Nobody in the whole Eastern Nigeria has even seen let alone watch TV until later.

Television started in Yorubaland at a time the rest of Nigeria and Africa had never seen or watched TV! While the Yoruba were producing films and other contents for TV, the technology has not even reached your side and other parts of Africa.

It's completely fraudulent to now attempt to insinuate Nollywood started when you started watching TV long years later. The Yoruba films being beamed on TV then started Nollywood. You should be grateful to those Yoruba pace setters of Nollywood.

Some people actually think that Nollywood started with 'Living In Bondage ' and 'Domitila'. Smh.

Aisha is even schooling them for free when they should be paying to recieve this kind of knowledge.

Everything about entertainment in Africa, from the first TV station to the first stadium etc, has its root in Ibadan, the heart of Yorubaland through the vision of our forebears. Thank you Aisha for the free education you are giving them.

Entertainment business is total package and it's bringing in billions into Nigeria through the Nigerian music, sports and film industry pioneered by the Yoruba and still owned by the Yoruba.

The chart bursting Nollywood films are produced in Yoruba but subtitled in English, Asake sings in Yoruba, all the Nigerian music Stars that performed at his UK show, including Tunde Baiyewu of Light House, are Nigerians and Yoruba with link to Nollywood. Most of those sound tracks in Yoruba films come from these Yoruba global Musicians.

Even Gospel musicians like Tope Alabi are connected to Nollywood while World Boxing Champion Anthony Joshua, World Athletics record-holder Tobi Amusan, along with Odunlade Adekola, Olamide, Teni and others are Glo Ambassadors, Iya Rainbow, Lateef Adedimeji, Dele Odule from Nollywood as Airtel Ambassadors, with their faces all over local and international Nigerian entertainment contents sponsorship.

Yoruba started Nollywood when the rest of Nigeria and Africa had not even seen or watched a TV in their lives and the Yoruba still own Nollywood till date.

The Yoruba can teach others in Nigeria and Africa how they sustain this global feat and dominance of entertainment if others are humble enough to learn from the Yoruba. We are all Nigerians/Africans and we can learn from one another.

yoruba started yoruba movies for yoruba people only no body know about ogunde in South south or south east we are not talking of yollywood but nollywood, yoruba film didn't discover omotola or some other popular yoruba actors and actresses ,living in bandage is birth of nollywood tribalism no reach there ,when nigeria International known female gospel artists are mentioned tope alabi is not among you tube can help you, for yoruba tope popular

I can name 10 Yoruba actors and actresses that became very popular when they made screenplays on Igbo produced Nollywood movies...Ramsey Noah (half Yoruba) became a sensation when he was featured in those classic lover boy movies all produced by Igbos, Desmond Elliot another Yoruba boy went from the "Everyday people" TV show regular guy to becoming a popular super star actor when he started acting in Igbo Nollywood English movies, Bimbo Akintola, Omotola Jolade, Olu Jacob's (even though he was a bit popular in the few 80's British sit coms he featured in) but his prototype Igwe roles earned him more fame across Africa, Eniola Badmus, Jibola Dabo etc. None of these actors made it big in Yoruba Nollywood so they had to find their fame in the Igbo Nollywood English movies. How many Igbos made it big in Yorubawood movies? infact how many Non- Yorubas besides a few made it big by casting in yorubawood?! but lots of Nollywood stars of South West and South South extractions were popular across Africa cause of major roles they played in Igbo produced classic movies...the likes of Shan George, Sam Loco Efe, JT Tom West, Kate Henshaw, Dakore Egbuson and several other South South actors and actresses became famous from Igbo Nollywood movies.
ole... Everyday people is owned by chief tajudeen... The owner of soundcity and trybe TV

Stop lieing to the audience... Una too dey lie...

The Igbos gave Nollywood life and since Yoruba actors and actresses couldn't break through the English version of Nollywood probably because their english sucks, Dem kuku create Nollywood Yoruba to console themselves.

Yoruba English suck So in your life you can never be responsible in anything?

So Jide Kosoko etc who had be in the industry on both English and Yoruba platform their English is suck ba? Pls where is your brain gone? See how tribal hatred destroyed been responsible for once in your lifetime.

It either you lack comprehension or ladipo boyz remove your brain box

She said it, ' at some point Yorubas movies messed up and people got tired of it because the world was evolving into a modernization, its either english or hide your face

But as she rightly concluded, Yorubas movies have evolved and taken over, infact igbo/english movies don't come close to the budget of some yoruba movies being shot now
the highest grossing movie box started way back from mainframe opomulero productions tunde kilani and now its back with the likes of kunle afolayan, femi adebayo and funke akindele, the english nollywood is at its prime while Yoruba wood seem to have so much yet to be untapped

Funnily, I don't expect you to understand, you can't give what you don't have

Nollywood is just a name,a nomenclature given by a US movie analyst just like Hollywood and Bollywood.
Does it mean that it is that analyst that started movies in Nigeria?

I tried to read comments without saying a word.

But I've been wondering and tempted to ask, why is it that an average Yoruba man is tribalistic and hatred filled in nature?? If i don't have it, no one else should have it.

There are no more home videos today. So, is Nollywood gone as well?
The lady was right, it all started with folks like Hubert Ogunde, Ade Love, Baba Sala, Jimoh Aliu and others.
The home video time was just a phase in the evolution of the movie industry, it wasn't a new Industry.
But the name "Nollywood" was coined during the VHS era after the commercial success brought by Igbos into movie industry. You can give new name to the streaming platforms era. Meanwhile lion hearts was the first nollywood movie on Netflix

That's because Yoruba people are proud and have always been proud of their culture... And that's why it's their movies that are getting worldwide recognition. You can't beat Oyibo people by trying to be Oyibo. Think about it.
Nollywood is all about igbos culture. Language is a different thing. Chinese epic movies are mainly English. Business first

How about top ten showing on African Magic? Everybody have their own areas of strength bro

Im sure , you are just trying to get noticed.... What is giving yorubas edge is promoting their culture and not promoting English language, check the content of the yoruba movies and the ones in English nollywood.... Movie is not just all about useless stories where the end can be predicted.
Check yoruba music too, infact if any artist must blow in Nigeria, they must infuse Yoruba language into their lyrics to give it a unique touch....

Stop playing, stay humble and learn, yorubas are not chestbeaters

I get the point the yorubas are trying to make and wants us to understand, that they the yorubas have been into acting long before the Igbos came and breathe life into acting and then christening it nollywood.

I admire their points and sense of reasoning, because by doing that they actually admits that whatever the igbos touch actually turns to gold. But that they can't swallow pride and accept it.

Any day igbos rule Nigeria, people will actually smile and thank God for things will turn around for better.
