Next time you're buying any item from an unknown seller, always demand for pay on delivery option.

Exactly. And no one's doing anything about it. And when it deteriorates further and the government finally decides to intervene and flush out these bad people, they start playing the pity card and making it appear as though the govt is taking away their source of livelihood without providing an alternative. I just don't get how long this is supposed to continue. Over 60% of the items sold at computer village are either fake, used, refurbished or with defects.

Add stolen to it.

It occupies 40% of that proportion.

On returning the item. Just I had predicted they would. They started to give me stupid craps about how I must have started the registration half way and my account is the one tied to the device and stuff.

I got to understand something. Nigerians are mean. By mean I mean Nigerians are very mean people. I have travelled across about 34 of the 36 states in Nigeria and northerners are about the only place where you'd find people with a little bit of honesty.
They are many here on Nairaland. Nigerians are just dubious by nature. That's why I only patronised known shops that have something to lose in computer village. If you had gone with a soldier may be you would have gotten a refund or replacement

There was not. Can you imagine? They were trying to refer me to the person from whom they picked the item from. The whole thing is funny because the store owner whom I rever and respect so much. I expected him to do something about it, but it turns out they're all in it together.

Arrest them including their boss
Pack everybody with police

And these are the same people calling Tinubu forger, drug lord etc, they lack conscience and human feeling, they are worst than animals, it's better to let them go, they introduce yahoo and many other crime to Nigeria, they are the one that put an end to true federalism for their selfish reason, they made it impossible for Nigeria to divide also for selfish reason which they now regret, they are destroying this country everyday, imagine. I bought a laptop recently from an online vendor who is Yoruba and I had no cause to regret.

Op try and contact the consumer protection agency as advised, if they get away with this they will be more confident to do more and don't buy anything there without being present physically and vigilant.

Truth. I have transacted with lots of Northerners. . I receive calls from them.

Many of them have a direct heart. Most / all times they even send me monies before drafting waybills. Even when they don't even know you.

Igbo are the worst. I am sorry for saying the truth.

I don't wish to do inter-state transactions with them any further. They are filled with so much scepticism. That is becoz that's how they run. They will give so much wahala.

The moment you are buying an item from a Nigerian seller, you must have extreme paranoia

There is rarely any 'brand new' item you buy that will not turn out to be used, refurbished, stolen or counter feit.

If you can find this out before the sale goes through, you can then decide if you still want the product and also knock the price down.

It is what it is

That is why I cannot come back to Nigeria and live there again. In Canada here, you buy a good product and can even return after two weeks and get FULL refund. How I wish Naija can be free of fraudulent and evil people.

@OP You have learnt a very big lesson about Nigerians.. some are very dishonest and most have tendency to be dishonest.

I won't send money to you no matter how close or how long we've known if it's not the direct seller. I will enter the store, pay for whatever I need to buy and make sure I collect a receipt in case of problems later with Police or other stop and search security outfits.

The earlier you realize there is no 'I trust him/her' or hurry hurry in business, the better for you.

So i had to get a couple of things at computer village Ikeja I'd need for a job I'm doing. I went to the market and after getting the things that I needed, I received a call from my friend who's in need of a STARLINK device. Who would have guessed? Coincidentally, that had it at the store. I confirmed the price and sent the details to my friend. He had a bit of trouble making the payment so I collected the contact of one of the sales rep in the store and told them I'd give them a call.

Following day, I was on my way already out of Lagos, I was at the park when my friend called and said he was ready to initiate tge transaction. I told him I wasn't anywhere close to computer very but I have a contact that works there. Had a bit of trouble convincing him to go ahead and completing the transaction with them since he needed it the following day.

After much convincing and he finally agreed, he made the payment and the said sales person got a dispatch rider to take it to the park.

Waited the following day for the item to arrive and we heard nothing. Then came the second, third, fourth, and even fifth day. Our patience was wearing out and we were already asking for a refund.
The item finally arrived on eve of the sixth day. It was already getting dark and it was too late to get it to the clients location for installation.

I will blame you for trusting someone you don't know and even asking your friend to transfer a whooping 400k. The tough economy and corrupt politicians caused most Nigerians to look for crooked means of survival. I HAVE LEARNED NEVER TO TRUST ANYBODY IN THIS COUNTRY.

From personal experience, I tend to generally agree with what you have said here about Northerners. Mind you they can be terrible in other respects oh (religion, women's rights and violence being some) but in matters of basic business honesty, they are usually far cleaner and more straightforward than many others.

I've known this to be true for years.

Only a very minuscule few have disappointed me.

Can't say same for other tribes in Nigeria. Especially from people from my own Delta state. From my own experiences in business, they've harmed me more than even the Igbo and Yoruba man.

I've become overly cautious now, especially when they're trying to play the : "we are brothers from the same side" card.

If I am not going down to computer village to buy by myself, then the item must be pay on delivery. I must see the item test it and confirm before paying. Any small rubbish, I will pay the delivery man and send it back. Better to loss delivery than loss everything.

OP, there are good Nigerians and no, they are not only in the North. Only that the SE people are more dubious than others, followed by SW. Northerners are more honest, but there are also dubious people among them too.

The error came from you bro. Dishonesty is synonymous with most Nigerians.

You shouldn't have convinced your friend to transfer such amount to cunning sellers when you know you wouldn't be physically present to inspect and confirm the originality of the product.

I wouldn't tell you to involve the police cos they'll just bribe them, and nothing would come out of the matter. Walk into ikeja cantonment. It's not far from there. Get like 2 soldiers. Settle them and explain things to them. The soldiers would follow you to their shop and say the product belongs to them and if they don't want any trouble, they should refund back your money.

Believe me, you'll receive your credit alert that moment

Like someone earlier suggested, TIP THE POLICE POST WITHIN THE MARKET, get those criminals arrested and you'll get a refund!

# I've been there, done that, and I GOT A FULL REFUND!

God bless that police inspector who DESPITE BEING AN ACQUAINTANCE of the CROOK that sold me a substandard product, ENSURED that I eventually GOT A REFUND!

northerners are very good. Every time I do business with them I always leave very pleasantly surprised. I remember I went to Ikorodu to the local government office. While I was there I tripped and the underneath of my shoe came off patapata . I saw the Hausa shoeman and he said he can glue it back on for 150 naira. In my mind I am thinking how does this guy survive ? If you do this in some shoe shops in admiralty way lekki it's a 5000 naira charge. Anyway after gluing it I gave him 200. Naira. He gave me 100 back and said I shouldn't worry that I should go, because he does not have 50 naira. That's being my typical experience with northerners . Just good people

Computer village Ikeja was built on fraud .

All those big time vendors there got their big break from selling stolen merchandise from abroad either through retailing of stolen used appliances or from credit card fraudulent purchases online.

The entire computer village is filled with scammers, thieves and credit card scammers.
