Oh my...that young girl has no idea the kind of school OAU is ! The school will never tolerate any kind of indiscipline and unruly behavior from any of its students. GenZ my foot,by the time she is done with,I was once a student of OAU will be her new song ! She will soon find out on her way to her father's house when the school would've expelled her on the ground of "poor character" !

And you think that see who are sixty had it all?

Those who had it good are of General Yakubu Gowon's age by now. Sixty years looks far but it isn't.
Hmmm! See bro...you make sense here. Frankly speaking you are not totally wrong with this statement. And if I have to say the truth, you really understand the point I was making.

See...those Awolowo, Gowon, Azikiwe people...down to Tinubu.... hmmm. Those ones are just useless in every way. If there is a word to describe them all...they are olo.shi.

But why did i include 60 plus. These set of people still had good chances to travel abroad in the 80s... they got jobs easily after secondary school. It was already getting bad..but not like this. And they easily got Us, UK visa. So, for this reason, they are included.

My main issue with them is that those group of people failed to see the errors of their parents and they continued. This is why I am shouting so that when i get to 60 plus, my conscience will let me sleep well.

With all the discipline they are giving out in Africa, where has it led you to? Has it stopped frauds? You are one of them. grin Oga...move out of Africa and go see what is right.. if you are not over 60 years and you talk like this...then, na you be the real victim cos they have "chanced" you for life. The way you see those kids in the north being used and dumped is how these people used and dumped you....yet, your eyes never clear. If you know what was available to them in their days and what is left now, you will pity your life. But your eyes never clear na. So, keep doing African things. Lol. Na poverty ooo.

And if you are above 60. Na your ways na. Very manipulative generation. Na dem pray pass..na dem read bible and koran pass....but na dem wicked pass. Very useless generation. grin
This needs to be hung on every wall in the streets of Lagos to shame them… very useless generation, they’re no better than the corrupt politicians

Your opinion here is so flawed! I guess you didn't consider the other students in the class. If the girl refuse to walk out the lecture walks out right and if the girl show up in the next lecture again and he ask her to leave she refuses and he walks out again right? Denying other students lecture time?

When you meet a brat treat her as such. What's so difficult in switching of your phone in a lecture hall? Am sure you know he didn't just single her out and ask her to switch of her phone. The phone must have interrupted his class. If you want to be treated as an adult behave like one.
It’s not flawed, he could’ve simply walked her out the class.. but you’re lame I know you won’t understand simple logic.. if you’re a lecturer hit my child, I’ll just send people to off you

Are there no security officials in the school? In my alma mater, every lecture hall had 1 or 2 security official. Invite them in to do the needful.
EXACTLY!

With the way students are (these days) every lecture hall should have at least 1 security/compliance officer.

The lecturer would just call on the officer to apprehend the girl, collect her phone, and take her to the reprimand room.

EDIT: It was actually a guy in the video; we are yet to hear the end of this story!

You're very stupid! She's in her adult education and the lecturer only has the right to ask her or the students to put their phones on silent. Phonr is a private property and should not be in someone's possession. The lecturer should br suspended and sent to anger management class

Guess she was causing distraction with her phone.

There are better ways a distraction can be handled, not expulsion from the university or a lecturer punching a student.
Re: OAU Lecturer Assault Student For Refusing To Switch Off Her Phone While In Class by zoedew: 9:50am On Nov 09, 2023
MOST UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT COMING FROM THE LECTURER. HE SIMPLY SHOULD HAVE ASKED HER OUT OF THE CLASSROOM AND LEAVE WHERE SHE REMAINS RECALCITRANT. THEREAFTER HE MAKES A REPORT OF HER CONDUCT TO THE H.O.D who sets up a Panel to look into the matter. In the end result the student could get sanctioned by the University. Sanction might go as far as an extra semester! That is more effective in correcting the errant behaviour of the Student .

Nigeria isn't a developed world, no matter where you are , you conform to the rules of that area or location, if you were told at your work place to switch off your phone , would you refuse?

Same phone you bought with your money doesn't give you the right to do as you please in certain environments. Because you want to visit a friend in the barracks and you are told not to use your phone after the person receiving you is on his way , would you say because you are an adult you won't obey?

The situation the student found him or herself in is just for a brief period of less than 2hours and she still has the option of putting it in silent mode or airplane mode or better still put it back on immediately she goes back to her seat.

Obedience isn't hard
this is what you don't get. The context here is different. I own my phone, you would not beat me because I chose not to turn off my phone. Unless you tell where it is in the constitution of the school that a lecturer can slap a student because they didn't turn off their phones. There are no grounds for that lecturer to have hit the student.

For better context, you are on a plane and they tell you to put your phone on airplane mode or switch it off and you do not do it. They'd calmly tell you to put the phone off or on airplane mode and if you don't, they will escort you off the plane. That's in a sane society.

I have attached the screenshot of what purportedly happened and judge for yourself.

Even in National Assembly, they can ask you to off your phone.

You guys have lost it totally, the lecturer told her particularly to off her phone, simply off it.

He might change his mind later, why being stubborn.

If it was her boy friend, she will quickly off it.

Thank God it's not the National Assembly but a Federal University. In a Federal University, you are allowed to have a phone and use a phone. It's up to the lecturer to set up his class rules and manage his students like a human being. A lecturer has NO right to punch or assault a student. If the right people take it up, he will lose his job and can even go to jail. He was caught on camera.
If you don't want phones in your class, expelling or punching the student is not the next option. You can ask the student to leave the class, you can deduct marks. In Nigeria, the lecturer may even influence more serious/wicked things like failing the students or frustrating the students. Expel or physical assault is a tall order.

Assault is not part of his duties as lecturer. A lecturer almost lost his life at Uniport for exact same action, girl was pregnant and lost the baby cos he pushed her.He will lose his job if the girl takes it up.He is not security and has no right to lay hands o n a student

Nigeria is an abnormal society. Read comments of m.ad people like the man above justifying his action. There are other ways of disciplining the girl, but the useless man as usual wanted to prove he is older than the girl. It is the right of the girl to defend herself from him. What about sending her out of the class. And if she doesnt walk out, he walks out and then take the right action. But he chose to force his will by laying his hands on the girl. And mum.u above just like the man are supporting the act. This is why they go to jail abroad. See eh...Nigeria is an abnormal society. This is why I dont regard anyone above 60. They are useless. Why? Na dem spoil Naija. Na dem holy pass...na dem sabi all...na dem want respect pass....but with the present state of Nigeria and with all the goodies available to them before and after independence. .look at where Nigeria is. Yet, they are still demanding respect. That generation is so manipulative. They use everything tovforce their will on people. If their useless words doesnt make sense, the next is to abuse the person by laying their hands on the victim. They dont mind using religious books to brain wash people. This generation ma.d oooò grin The portion they know in the Bible is honor your parents so your days may be long..if you quote parents, respect and love your children...they go go wild ni. Very selfish generation. They destroyed Nigeria. I pray the parents of the girl are well doing so they can treat the mess up of that useless ma d man. Just imagine...becos he thinks he is the alpha and omega in the class...he does not recognise the girl as an adult. Simple...use your authority and send her out of the class. Period. I know many lecturers who stepped aside until the kids walked out. Na the kids begged later because they kept sending the kids out of the class. Simple as ABC. That is the authority this man has. And it ends there. If the kid is useless and does not want to learn, it is automatic F. Period. But laying hands on the girl (an adult), this man needs to go to jail. But it is Naija na where abnormal people like those who have made comments above live. grin Werey plenty in naija grin
See the useless statement u write, I still don't knw the morals that the so call Americans hv better than than the decipline society we enjoy.
All the too much rights the student get is why they can support terror and rebels like the hamas against and in the detriment of their own existence.
The level of disrespect this generation student hv in this country is dispeakable, imagine how long struggle took that lecturer there, with all the unresolved incomes for his effort and he still come to class to educate all this ingreats but all he got is open disrespect from someone that may not be old enough to be his grand child " if your his son their I don't knw how ur going to even take that insult ".
All I expect you to talk abt is had it been this lecture is well paid as their American counterparts this girl will not disrespect him in any way and the man may have conported his self better than reacting immediately.

At that time, no one knew Nigeria would be this bad.
Most of the people who traveled abroad did so with the hope of coming back home to use their expertise for the Nation.

There was no prophet that could predict that Nigeria would eventually go this bad.

Nigerians started travelling out with a one way ticket from the early 2000's and this were mainly young people. If you were 20 year old in the year 2000, you would have been 43 year old now.

Even then, those who ruled and mismanaged Nigeria are less than 0.000001% of the population. These people understand that to keep themselves in power, they have to cause Mass Illiteracy and Poverty.

The Poor will collect N2000 to vote for a person who will steal N2,000,000 from their personal GDP in four years. The uneducated will vote based on no ideology but by tribalism, religiolism, nepotism etc. Since this is the largest population of citizens, democracy becomes a recurrent scam.

Just as you feel helpless as a young Nigerian, 99.999% of those you blame are also in this category.

The Truth of the matter is that Nigeria has been long highjacked by "Educated Area Boys", this is why we are in the problem we find ourselves.

If you've never been a teacher, you won't know how demeaning it is for a student to undermine your authority in front of the whole class

Of course the lecturer went too far but most people condemning the lecturer would do worse if they were in his position

So, an adult who is in the higher institution is who you want to spank. Ok ooo. Oga...kuku tell the senate to approve spanking in the universities na. grin

It is only in the US they usually shoot...and not because of bad home training, but because of the law there. All over Europe..nothing like shooting..even in Canada...yet they have outlawed corporal punishment. Do you hear of shootings in the UK? US only needs to remove guns from the hands of the citizens and it ends. But politicians who are benefitting finacially from it are blocking it. Period.

So, lets compare the kids that are trained in Africa with your approach and compare them with those abroad. Who is better? Your yahoo yahoo kids? Dey play!

Did i read that you said people in 60s laid good foundation for us? Lol. Oh yes...they do...and it is why you are suffering in naija. Lol. Na waooo!
