I get your point but the difference in Yoruba is in accent not meaning like in Igbo. The Yoruba moved from a central place and trace themselves back to same origin unlike in Igbo where some are not even ethnically Igbo but you lump them up as Igbo because they are located in South East. These groups ,like the Igala in Anambra, Enugu etc, even tell the whole world that they are not Igbo.

The Yoruba are significantly monolingual and monocultural

Wow. I never knew those groups were non-igbos...does that mean they have completely different belief system, cultural values and lifestyle from the other Ibo folks?

Also, for them to be lumped with the Igbos, doesn't that mean they share key similarities with them for that to happen?

most Edo north surnames starts with 'osho'
OSHIO is common in Edo North and not OSHO infact the only popular OSHIO is OSHIOMOLE...Whenever you see any name with "SHO-" such as SHOBANKE,SHOYINKA,SHOWUMI,SHODUNKE,SHONIBARE,SHOLANKE...They are Ijebus or egba yorubas from Ogun state.its a short for of OSHO- meaning wizardry.

Yoruba language is fast becoming Nigeria's most popular language...

The Yoruba land is gifted not just for its own people, but for the acceptance of others. I hope politicians and die-hard tribalists won't tear us apart as Nigerians.

God bless Nigeria 🇳🇬

Hausa remains the most widely spoken Nigerian language and the most internationally catered for.

Yoruba might be beginning to be internationally prestigious and gaining grounds in being internationally catered for, but as long as some useless Yoruba parents continue raising kids who cannot speak their mother tongue (I don't care if they can hear), they can never compete with Hausa.

I have never met an Hausa child that cannot speak Hausa anywhere in the world. Many Yoruba kids in Lagos cannot speak Yoruba.

Yoruba is the de facto official language of Nigeria. Spoken by 65.66% of the population. It should become adopted as the 2nd official language.

Other languages spoken in Nigeria are irrelevant. They should be jettisoned.

How come their tribe no measure up when their daughter, Ashisat, won the African Best Women Footballer of the Year for the 6th times, while their sons have won the African best footballer of the year many times: e.g. Rashidi Yekini?

Same in UNIBEN. Unless they tell you their surname, you wouldn't know their ancestry is not Yoruba.

Lagosian Igbo's for the most part hang around their fellow Lagosian Yorùbá's. In fact, they solely speak Yoruba to other Yorùbá's from other towns and you know what, no one bat's an eyelid about it.

I myself have never asked any Lagosian where their ancestry is, if it ever comes up in conversation, it will be them that volunteer to tell you.

We had an Owerri boy on the same course, the day my Lagosian Igbo friend told me he couldn't totally understand his Igbo shocked me. This is the same guy that has no problems understanding heavy Ekiti accents.

what do you Yorubas gain from lying?
Why do you guys lie alot?
Is it hereditary stuff?

Who told you that the Ijaw are aboriginal to Yorubaland and did you bother to study the origin of the Badagry people or you think they don't understand and speak Central Yoruba?

Even the revered Akran himself bears a Yoruba name and speaks Yoruba. Check most of his interviews on YouTube, they are done in Yoruba Language and they are not second class Yoruba.

I know that you are Igbo so I don't blame you. All you know how to do is insult other Nigerian tribes.

I am happy for Osimhen so don't derail the thread. He was born and bred on our soil and we love and appreciate him.

you are a dolt, very ignorant and not ready to learn. Did anybody tell you that igalas are native to any Igbo community in Anambra and enugu?
The igalas were simply carved into those states just the way ijaws were carved into ondo state.

And yes, the badagry people are not Yorubas, some of them have said it many times. They have their mother tongue which is not intelligible with the Yoruba language

Both Oba of Benin and Osimhen are Yorubas by blood & naturalisation.
Osimhen was norn & bred in Lagos. Therefore he's a nationalized Yorubaman. Oba of Benin was born by a Yoruba man, therefore he too is Yoruba. Any person wey the thing mo sweet, grab a bottle of sniper

The bitter truth about Victor Osimhen is that is more of Yoruba than Esan.

Though both his Parents are from Edo, and he had never visited his village according to him.
He speaks Yoruba fluently more than some Yoruba Boys.
